April 14, 20251 yr Not sure if this a function of the new lighting engine in 2024 v 2020, but I see this frequently and it's not a good thing. Not sure where to try to change this but it seems like colors seem oversaturated in 2024 or there is too much reflectivity. I have NCP desktop color settings the same in both sims and even reducing Digital Vibrance (seems like a color saturation control) it's still there. 2020 coming in towards KTEX. While it looks a bit dim but the color tones themselves look more natural or similar to what I would see in the RW here: Now in 2024: the strange patterns you see towards the left horizon isn't there in the screenshot so compression did that. Anyway, this is so bright compared to 2020 and all the way into the airport 2020's coloration looks far more natural. Here's a similar example, and it's all over the world in some measure, this from NZQN looking at the mountains near the airport. Look how bright the faces are, so much so it's harder to see any detail enhancement if there would be. This is the 2024 view: And a similar view in 2020: Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. April 14, 20251 yr The Windows HDR calibration tool seems to have sorted that for me. I have noticed what you are describing in some areas, but the mapping/textures are very different in others. I've recently been flying around Innsbruck and Salzburg and the colours seem very washed out there compared to everywhere else I have flown in MSFS2024. April 14, 20251 yr Author I'm not using HDR10 but did initially use the tool to setup for HDR so maybe will go back there and see if I can improve this. For sure it's not the same everywhere but by the descent over the extensive mountains coming into NZQN all had that overly reflective white tones that just do not look natural. I'll have another shot at that w/ the HDR calibration tool. April 14, 20251 yr Are either of you in the latest SU2 beta? If not, I think you’re going to be pleasantly surprised…

I guess you are not in the SU2 Beta. Overall lighting is improved plus there is a new slider to adjust the EV of the screen. I do use HDR and have used the Windows HDR calibration Tool to tune the output my monitor is capable of. However, the new EV slider allows the EV to be lowered to tune those highlights to your liking. Be aware though it is easy to go too far and have an overly dark scene in cloudy weather. I have used -3 which finely tunes the highlights in HDR. As you don't use HDR, preferring a filter, I have no idea how this will apply to you. I would suggest getting SU2, turning HDR on in Windows & 2024, using the Windows HDR Calibration Tool and then fine tune (if needed) with the new EV slider (I used a bright snow scene plus bright sun on the wings surface for this). You could use what you see as overly bright mountains also. EDIT - Of course, the mountains you describe could be just poor quality. You saw the images in each sim and how different they were so the idea of the cause of this for me as bad quality mountains doesn't apply well. I did use the slider in Win 11 to balance SDR/HDR which was set well to the right, the HDR side, moved that back to 48% and it might be better now just checking. And also reset the HDR calibration using the Win 11 Cal tool and it may be better. April 15, 20251 yr Author Def improvement after adjusting the SDR/HDR slider and resetting the HDR profile. HDR looks better now as well in-sim so will try that for a while. Detail filter still needed to brighten up the VC and maybe the new control in SU2 will obviate that we'll see soon. You will not need the new control to do that as the VC lighting is improved in SU2. The EV slider is great for fine tuning HDR. April 15, 20251 yr Don't know what you are referring too but word not allowed, the SU2 Beta and the EV slider works wonders! Currently have -0.75 set and I'm really pleased with the results!
