I have never started MSFS via MS Store or XBox App, always started via the desktop icon which has then after a few seconds triggered an update during the sim startup. it failed to update SU3 through the sim directly, updating within xbox app or updating through the MS Store app.  After getting SU2 working again I am scared to even attempt your suggestions to get SU3 beta installed.  Does however feel like a ticking timebomb if there is an underlaying issue with sim updates on my system

Clicking on the desktop icon works for me. Except when I change the sim by going into or out of the BETA. Then it never works on the first attempt. I believe that my installation is working like yours does. The desktop icon works for opening an already installed sim, not for changing the sim in and out of the BETA.

I bit the bullet and tried getting SU3 Beta again.  Signed up through the new website, restarted pc, opened Insider Hub and Joined SU3 beta.  Let it run through its "pending" then restarted pc again.  Opened Xbox app and pressed Show Queue.  Clicked down arrow beside MSFS 2024 to download the update and its the same as before......it refuses to download a single byte of data then after a moment says error

 

I really am at a total loss now.  Never had issues like this before.  Sim has been uninstalled many times a few days ago.  I can download the sim no problem its the updates are failing

Have you tried updating through the Microsoft store?

It's OK I got it sorted. I had tried many many times updating via ms store, xbox app or simply starting the sim. BTW they are all linked, if you run the sim and it attempts to update, switch tasks to MS Store it shows it currently attempt to carry out the update
