Cannot install SU3 Beta or revert to SU2 - Downloads fail

Featured Replies

I cannot install the SU3 Beta.  After spending a lot of time trying to find out how to enrol in the beta, and eventually finding Asobo have changed this process, I joined SU3.  When booting up the sim its stuck on "Your game needs an update" and refuses to download even a byte of data.  Total update size also shows 0.0.  It eventually shows an error message.  Left it for ages.  Restarted sim, restarted Windows.  I then opened xBox Insider and left the beta.  Despite not having downed anything for SU3 Beta the sim is attempting to download some update but the issue is exactly the same - downloads nothing.  I have even tried a VPN from a different country in Europe and its the same problem.  SU1 and SU2 Betas worked fine previously. I left the beta program on release of the official SU2 release but trouble has started today when rejoining the beta.

I now cannot start SU2 or SU3 Beta!!

Microsoft Store keeps saying "Getting ready - Checking dependencies" then eventually times out.

Wasted a couple of hours now trying to sort this.  Any advice?  Not sure if a reinstall will even help

Might be a daft suggestion and I know you've said you restarted windows but have you tried a PC restart?

Is that not the same thing? Power...restart. even tried updating in Safe Mode. No idea what dependencies the Store is checking

Before you try installing SU3 or reinstalling SU2, move your community folder or rename it. Then do a uninstall and let your xbox app do a reinstall, then 2024 should update itself. I recently removed myself from SU3, so I did a complete uninstall, reboot computer and then reinstall of SU2. Once you opt out or in a computer restart is needed.

Thanks though as standard I renamed my community folder prior to joining SU3 Beta but the update issue still occurred. Seems to relate to MS Store stuck checking dependencies. No idea how to get out of this annoying and worrying loop. I cannot say for 100% if I restarted the pc after joining thr beta. I may have just run the 2024 exe

I think you may have sorted it and it maybe down to restarting immediately after leaving or joining the beta. Left the beta again from insider app and restarted pc. Sim appears to be loading. Prior tries with leaving or joining beta then running sim triggered update issues. Will test quickly back on SU2 then reattempt SU3 Beta

After thankfully getting back into SU2 i rejoined SU3 Beta, restarted the pc then started the sim. Update issues returned. It sits for 5 mins "downloading...0.0 B of 0.0 B / 0.0 MB/S" then eventually just says "Error". No idea what the issue is, seems strange Asobo changed the enrol process for SU3 with users having to join and fill in q questionnaire online then upload a dxdiag.xml file

This is turned into a nightmare.  I have reinstalled sim twice now but first time I rejoined the beta before downloading the sim.  Had assumed it would download the beta.

Still had same problem with no update downloading - just sits there then gives error.  Reinstalled again later after leaving beta.  and installed sim but it will NOT open, even though I am not in the beta it is still requesting updates and nothing is being downloaded.

Im really upset as I now cannot start the sim at all.  Have reported it on official forums but doubt there will be any support since reported in beta section.

Try opting out of beta using the insider app, then reboot computer. then uninstall the sim using X box app, restart the computer, Then install whatever your sim version using X box app to default location. reboot again. now using the Microsoft store app, open the library and select update all. 2024 should update, when done start 2024.

I tried all that twice. No matter if I was enrolled I the beta (via Insider) or not it still triggered an 'update' which refused to load at all.

I installed sim again for 3rd time. All installs been in default xboxgames folder. Ms store shows two versions can be installed..one listed as Standard and other doesn't say standard. Installed this time via xbox app though have to go searching for it as it didn't show as a product i owned. I eventually got sim to start without an update and I believe its down to pressing Opt Out on this née beta sign up website MS and Asobo have created for SU3. Without enrolling via this page SU3 Beta does not show up in Insider Hub.

I will not be attempting to installed SU3 again for the time being. Scared the future official update will not download. Got virtually no support on official forums

If you can get SU2 to load and work as should, then stick with that and consider this a victory in getting your sim back running.

There is a certain order to do things. After going to xbox insider hub and opting in or out of beta, don't clik on Msfs2024 icon in the Xbox to start it up. Instead go down to lower left hand side in the xbox app and click on where it says you require an update. That icon should startup msfs and it will complete the installation. Anyway, that is what worked for me when I had this problem.

I'm just saying that's how it works for me after joining or leaving the beta in the insider hub. After doing that if I click on where it says NO, then the progress bar will start at 0 and stay there forever. But if I click where it says YES, then the progress will run 0 to 100 normally. (the message at "Show Queue" will change after making changes in the insider hub, it won't say "manage recent installations" it will say something like manage msfs2024, and I click on that.

Thanks. I did what I've done on su1 and su2 beta, joining and leaving and updates installed fine. Same for 2020. The only thing I'm unsure of is if I restarted the pc after joining the beta in Insider. There's also this new sign up procedure to actually make su3 beta show up in insider.

And if you then click on msfs2024 icon in Xbox app it will not install. It won't for me either. That's why I don't do that. I click on manage down in the lower left and then the beta or updated beta installs and runs. After that first time launch, then from then on I use the regular icon to launch. But never the first time. This is just the way it is for me.
