May 30, 20251 yr As a former pilot I appreciate the modern systems of warnings that aid pilots in many situations, and I certainly understand warnings for terrain, etc. The Longitude is one of my favorite aircraft and its systems are remarkable. However, I can certainly do without the continuous Terrain! Terrain! shout-outs and Pull Up! Pull Up! Pull Up! exclamations and warning horns when I'm exactly at the appropriate altitudes for my approach (Ecuadorian mountains). The approach is being properly read by the g5000 system and my altitudes are correct, so why all of the kerfuffle? The particular approach I was on today does place me occasionally within 2,000' of the surface in some sections, but that's exactly what it's supposed to do. Is the actual g5000 system this stupid or does it require the pilot to reset warning altitudes in real life when making this type of approach in order to not have their concentration constantly interrupted? May 31, 20251 yr I think this is just a problem with the inner workings of the GPWS system within the sim. The same (unrealistic) behaviour can be observed when flying add on airliners like the PMDG 737 or the Fenix A320. The system is way more sensitive, than the real one.
May 31, 20251 yr Yes, I get this at times in the PMDG 737-600. It is certainly annoying! Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
May 31, 20251 yr Author I guess I'll adjust the altitude warning ranges in the MFD? Maybe set the bottom at 20'? I want terrain warnings to work normally when not flying in mountainous terrain, but this will mean changing this setting every time there are high-altitude approaches. Randall Rocke
May 31, 20251 yr It's been a while since I flew an aircraft with the G5000. Is this a TAWS system like in the GTN750? If so then why don't you just inhibit it?
May 31, 20251 yr Author When I looked through all of the options after the flight (yes, this is a TAWS system) - I couldn't find a way to just inhibit it. When I did a search, the common work-around appeared to be changing the minimum altitude for terrain warnings. If someone has located a quick way to inhibit the warning I'd love to hear the procedure. Randall Rocke
May 31, 20251 yr Moderator I found this - not at flight system so I can't try it: 1. TAWS Inhibit Mode: The G5000, like other Garmin TAWS systems, offers an "Inhibit Mode" that disables specific alerts deemed unnecessary by the aircrew. 2. Accessing Inhibit Mode: MFD: Locate the "TRAFFIC MAP" page and use the "MUTE" button to stop traffic callouts. TAWS Page: Find the "INHIBIT" button on the TAWS page to stop terrain callouts. Menu: Disable aural terrain warnings within the menu on the "heat map" page. RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
May 31, 20251 yr Author Thanks! I'll check this out before my next flight with the Longitude. Randall Rocke

The work by WT is really wonderful on this unit and TAWS is certainly "running", considering the TAWS announce at start-up and the plethora of call-outs. However, the TAWS menu is greyed out on the MFD control and cannot be accessed. Randall Rocke

Neither sim (2020 or 2024) have a GPWS system really, built-in, and certainly neither the PMDG nor the Fenix use the sim's terrain data at all, they both ship with their own terrain database. If you're seeing this across multiple aircraft it's more likely that they've all coded their own GPWS system to the required real world standards. Some terrain is just annoying with those standards.
June 2, 20251 yr Author Annoying is certainly correct. Now, if a future rendition of these systems, such as the g5000, had active TAWS options, being able to inhibit warnings under certain terrain conditions would be very helpful. Randall Rocke
