How to update AIRAC cycles on GTN430 and GTN530?

Featured Replies

MSFS2020

Hi everyone!
I'm a layman on the subject.
I have a Navgraph subscription and the software for FMS and HUB updates.
The FMS to update Little NavMap and the HUB to update MSFS2020, PMDG aircraft and ACTIVE SKY 2020. All working well in the updates. However, I notice that when using aircraft that only have the option of using one GPS model, in this case a GTN430 or GTN530, I see that the approaches, navigation data and other information are not correct, as in the GTN750 (free version). I know that the GTN430 and 530 GPS have their limitations, but when I use them at airports (third-party scenarios) here in Brazil they work well with the Autopilot on approaches and Glide Slope. When I fly outside, the US, Europe, etc. These old GPS devices work "Origin to Destination" and in some approaches that they have, but they usually lose the ideal descent slope. The Autopilot is not activated...
I have aircraft that I love to fly but I am limited to the GTN430 or in others to the GTN530.
How do I update the AIRAC cycles also in the GPS models GTN430 and GTN530 in MSFS2020?
I appreciate everyone's collaboration!

You don't. These read the default database of MSFS and the Airac of these are updated each month automatically by Microsoft themselves.

I assume you mean the GNS530 and 430...  As stated above, these are coded by WT for MSFS and use the default MSFS navdata.

OK...
Would it be possible to create a program that would make the GTN430 or 530 read the data updated by Navigraph? It would be more coherent to have all GPS models using the same navigation database. As for updates from Microsoft, I have never seen them, because the navigation data for certain airfields has always been the same since I started using MSFS2020...

Thanks Farlis for their attention to my question!

If you use the Hub to update the core MSFS 2020 Nav data (which is an option in the Hub) you should have the latest Navigraph Nav data available in the 430/530, since the core update option overrides the default MSFS data.

This won’t help in the case of a default airport where the runway numbers have changed, or where r/w runways have been added or deleted. That could prevent certain approaches from working when the runways have changed.

Hello Jim!
Are you referring to the first option in the Navigraph HUB "installed in simulator (steam) / Simulator Base Packages / AIRAC Cycle 2501 rev 1"? I always keep it updated.
If that's the case, could there have been some damage to the simulator files and the navigation database was no longer updated correctly?

I'm sorry, but if you've gone beyond the basics of MSFS2020, I'm completely lost...

Yes that's what Jim is referring to.

There's no damage to the simulator files.

MSFS has this thing with airport developers can modify the navdata for a given airport. Sometimes they do this well, other times they really make a mess of things and the navdata module in MSFS essentially just wipes everything for that given airport and/or runway if it can't be parsed correctly (I'm over simplifying but hopefully you get the idea). If you're using a default airport, this in theory should be mitigated. This happens regardless of you having navigraph navdata or not.

What you're asking for is for these units to directly have their own navdata databases which navigraph can update, similiar to say PMDG, Fenix or JustFlight that don't directly read from MSFS Navdata.

Unfortunately that is not possible.

My advice is to either

  • If these are custom airports, email the aircraft developer to remove or modify their navdata modifications
  • Use a different GPS unit
  • Modify the BGL yourself (I Personally have no idea how to do this)

Thanks Lucky38i !
