  • It is not UPS.  I ordered a different grip for my VKB throttle.  I had to pay DHL just over 50% as well.  Luckily for me that was about $28.

This is one reason why you should very rarely order anything directly from another country. 

Try to order the product via an intermediary seller located in the USA like Amazon or Newegg.  They get most of their stuff from other countries, but they are based in the USA and have most of their products stored in a warehouse in the USA, so neither they nor the shipper can hit you with some BS additional "tariff" fee unless they disclose this in advance.

Anything shipped from another country to the USA or vice versa must go through customs at the origin and destination where it must meet certain criteria and can be physically checked, to include opening the package, plus various fees can be applied. 

It's just not worth it unless it's a unique item you can't get any other way.

If I were you, I'd tell the vendor what happened, then I'd return the thing and just eat the shipping cost.
