Request assistance with the QuantumLeap app

Featured Replies

Perhaps the venerable @Bob Scott, admired by many, feared by some, exceled by none, the author and finisher of this fantastic app can help me out here. After entering the prescribed path in the QuantumLeap ini. file per the read me instructions: \P3DV5\PMDG\NAVDATA I still get the "No NAVDATA FILE manual entry only flag at the bottom of the app. I've tried the \PMDG\SIDSTARS folder with the same result. Is there a path to a subfolder in one of these files I should enter to get QL to see NAVDATA so I can just enter and leap ahead to the desired waypoint?

One other question; should I leave the ini. file in the QL folder or move it to the sim file or somewhere else?

QL works fine just manually entering the waypoint coordinates but it would be nice to be able to just enter the waypoint and leap over many hours of cruise.

Love this app which makes it possible to load up the PMDG T7 or QOTS747 for a heavy take off at max TO weight, climb to cruise altitude then jump to about 80 miles from TOD, plan and execute your approach and landing. I can execute a 12-16our flight in a three hour sim session. 😊Life is short, hours are precious.

IIRC, some time back PMDG changed the data format for their P3D birds from the original FSX format, so pointing QuantumLeap to your P3D navdata folder no longer works.

What I do now is install the Navigraph PMDG-format dataset for their FSX add-ons to a folder, and the path in QuantumLeap.ini points to that folder.   There should be two files present there (wpnavaid.txt and wpnavfix.txt) along with a few others.  I configured Navigraph FMS Data Manager to install that dataset to a manually-specified folder, so now when I do my AIRAC updates that FSX format PMDG dataset gets installed automatically.

The ini file should always be located in the same folder as the QuantumLeap executable.

@Bob Scott Thank you so much for the reply. I will look into it tomorrow. Great app by the way. I’m sure there’s a lot of folks who would appreciate having it if they knew of QuantumLeap.

It can be found  in the Avsim library.

Thanks for sharing it.

I'm still in wonder that this little utility I wrote like 15 years ago is still useful.

I went back and looked at the source code for QuantumLeap and the PMDG data files, and the program should still be able to read them.  So installing the FSX version of the data probably won't fix your issue.

If you specified the path as in your post above, that might be the issue--you need the *full* pathname, including the drive letter (or network share name preceded by a double backslash for networked installation).  Otherwise the program is looking for the data file using the specified path as a subfolder of the folder it's running from.  And IIRC, I don't think the program tolerates embedded spaces in the path, so I'd avoid that as well.

So the path line in your ini file should look something like:

NAVDATA C:\P3DV5\PMDG\NAVDATA

@Bob ScottThanks, I'm working on it right now. I'll follow your advice.

NAVDATA C:\P3DV5\PMDG\NAVDATA

Bob, this is exactly how my path is written in the ini. file but QL doesn't seem to see it. Not a problem. I can still just write the coordinates in and use the app for the intended purpose. Thanks.

I also use Quantum Leap, tied to my P3Dv5 PMDG navdata, and the path you mention is basically the same one I have (except that I use the D drive and the folder has no V in the name), and it works for all my sims in my main rig. Have you tried running the sim as Admin?

Or the other option I can think about is to do a dummy FSX and PMDG install. I mean, create a folder for FSX, and create a PMDG folder in there, and manually add it to Navigraph FMS Data Manager.

I keep a Navigraph navdata-only subscription, and I have my P3D navdata up to date. Maybe this change is only for their MSFS birds?

@Luis Hernandez Thank you Luis for the reply. I tried the dummy FSX file and sent the NGX NAVDATA from Navigraph to that folder but no joy there. By not having the v in the folder name do you mean just P3D5 as your folder name? Yes, I always run the sim as administrator.
Thanks

For what it's worth here is the entry in my QuantumLeap.ini file. Note the back slash at the end of the line item. (Don't know if that makes a difference.)

       Navdata E:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\PMDG\NAVDATA\

Yes: my P3Dv5 path is D:\P3D5\PMDG\NAVDATA... but it shouldn't matter.

And Quantum Leap too?

Oh, I didn't notice that. Now I have to check my setup for this item. This may actually matter.

Thanks to both of you. I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to get back to work on this but all tips are appreciated.
