FSX BLURRIES ............ I can do no more!

Recommended Posts

Guest PPSFA

When I see posts like this I always feel bad because I have been where you are. I'm going to expand a bit on why I reccomend FS-GS in the hopes others may benefit. One of my 'occupations' is creating video content of a company that does recurrent safety training for corporate flight depts. The videos I create MUST be smooth and free of any problems.I started with FX9 over 4 years ago, and nothing I did would give me what I needed. I spent literally months checking every forum for every 'tweak' I could find. Finally I checked a link for FS-GS that someone had posted. I was skeptical but I figured I might as well give it a shot, cause I was out of options, and if I wasn't satisfied, I didn't have to pay, so it was a 'no lose' situation. The first thing I was told was my video card wasn't up to the job for what I wanted. Since the machine was a few years old, I decided to upgrade the entire system. FS-GS gave me a list of hardware that at the time was top of the line, I bought it, went back to FS-GS, and the fun began. It took 2 sessions, about 6 hours the first time and 4 hours the next, and FS9 was a new animal. FPS well into the 70's, smooth as silk and all scenery crystal clear. That was FS9.Fast forward to FSX. They reset my system, the same one I bought for FS9, for FSX. I run almost all sliders to the max, have no blurries, FPS averaging high 20's to high 30's, all with a 2 1/2 year old machine. To make a long story short, for the last 2 1/2 years I have had all the support I could hope for, and it hasnt cost me an extra cent, including re-tweaking my machine for FSX. They stay on top of drivers, tweaks, mods, and anything else that might improve FSX, they test it and if it works, they notify me and help with the configuration.I can't begin to tell you how much time and aggravation I have saved using their service and I highly recommed it to anyone frustrated by FSX performance issues. They don't use generic tweaks like some post, every system is specifically adjusted for max performance in FSX on THAT system. The fact that I still am a customer almost 3 years later, as fussy as I am, should tell a story. :)Try it, you will never regret it.XP Pro SP2-FSX SP2AMD FX60-8800GTS-2 Gigs RAMFEX-GEX-UTUSA-FSGenesis-and a bunch of other stuffComputer optimized by www.fs-gs.com

If Microsoft had customer support, they would provide an FS-GS type service for free.To bad a company like Valve didn't make FSX, they still update my 7 year old game (Half-Life) on a regular basis. That's customer support.

Try setting and saving the LOD radius to 7.5 or 8.0 from the default 4.5.in the FSX Config file. For me, this extends the radius significantly for crisp textures. Since you mention you have some crisp textures when you bank, this may extend the radius out further. Remember if you change any settings (such as autogen etc) in the display settings after saving the new LOD number in the cfg., it will revert back to the default next time you fly. Give it a shot.

Richard,Please attach your scenery .cfg file and a screenshot showing the "blurries" that you're experiencing and I can provide further assistance.Without those two things ... nobody can help. Can you answer the following questions:Are you running any anti-virus software? What is your operating system? Is this machine connected to the internet?Don't forget to attach your settings .cfg file and a screenshot demonstrating your blurries. Thanks,

I'll try to get those other items posted today. For now,- NO Anti-virus software installed. Only use what it provided by the OS which would be the OS Firewall. I normally download files with another compter which has Norton AV, scan and save then to disk for upload to the FSX machine.- OS is Microsoft Vista 64 with SP1- Yes, machine is connected to the Internet. Used for FSX real weather download. Automatic OS Updates and Time Sync are disabled. Thanks for the help,Richard

@ brucets:I can't speak for others, and my computer system is of a medium build, but I can say that I avoid the blurries in my reviews by taking my time to create the screenshots.Sometimes, it can take me up to half an hour to get the shot just right. By then, the blurries resolve themselves. Sometimes, there are blurries in my shots. I use them to demonstrate blur, or to create a cheap depth of focus effect. Sometimes, the only camera angle I want is one where the camera is in motion, and I have to snap the picture, well, on the fly. Then, too, as Geofa mentions in this thread, some aircraft will cause more blurries than others. To me, avoiding blurries can be as simple as deciding to fly a different aircraft. I would suggest that the GA aircraft generate fewer blurries than the big jets. As for the case of the original poster, though, there may be something more serious at the bottom of this issue.I, too, am skeptical when I see ultra-pretty screenshots. You can bet that the sim was paused to allow blurries to go away in many cases. As well, if you throw the image into Photoshop and look at the Levels, you may see a chopped-up gamma distribution curve: that's the unavoidable hallmark of screenshot tampering. It's not MS's job to tune every computer for maximum performance. This is not a program issue, it's a computer issue. How else can we explain many users on medium power computers having satisfactory results while others with very high-powered boxes have difficulties. There is an infinite combination of processors, mother boards, memory sticks and brands, graphics cards, etc. Microsoft can't be responsible for all combinations.

There are way to many computer literate FS users with high-end rigs that have blurries. People are claiming that their computers run every other highload graphics game and good-old FS-9 without problems they just have 1 problem and it is with FS-X. Its not their computers its what FS-X is doing thats the problem.>How else can we explain many users on medium power>computers having satisfactory results while others with very>high-powered boxes have difficulties. One problem is what is 'satisfactory'. If you have low end hardware you would expect and tolerate some blurries, lower res ground tiles and a few frame drops. The other factor is your use of the program. Where in the world do you fly and at what height....>There is an infinite>combination of processors, mother boards, memory sticks and>brands, graphics cards, etc. Microsoft can't be responsible>for all combinations. But Microsoft should at least do as good a job as most other game makers and my own impression supported by views vented on these and other forums is that Microsoft/Aces made a game engine that is very nervous about the hardware and the drivers you use.Lets say that some hardware combos might be the problem. That 'problem' could be easly solved by posting a few recommended configurations on the offical support site or a Blog. But al we get is lectures about performance and hopes about new hardware improving performance by x %.Maybe we could do a quaterly hardware feature. The best $ 1500, $ 2500 and $ 3500 FS computer your money can buy. It would give newbies something to begin with and we finaly might get some meaningfull discussion about how FS-X performs on standard platform A, B or C.Still it will always be about expectations, add-ons used and personal standards. (some people realy need LASIK before they notice they have the blurries too)

Ok. Looking forward to seeing these. Maybe someone here at AVSIM will spot something. There is not much your computer shouldn't be able to do with regard to FSX ... but having said that, even it is not capable, as you know, if running FSX at full sliders. No computer is capable of that - yet.But your computer should be more than capable of running FSX at reasonable slider levels with reasonable frames per second and no "blurries."While you are posting screens, you might want to take a screenshot of your task manager processes, so that we might be able to spot something that shouldn't be there, seeing as how this workstation is connected to the internet, but isn't protected by virus scanning software. Perhaps, unbeknownst to you, someone else has been surfing.Cheers,

I'll probably be sorry that I got into this thread but here goes ...To me, your screen shot is what FSX should look like and the real world does look like from that altitude. I would guess that where the textures really begin to blur in your picture is about 10 miles away and that's about what you expect in most parts of the country on most days of the year. In fact, I believe 10 miles or more is considered "unlimited."My 2 cents worth.R-Ron BroylesSan Antonio TX USA

Hi Ron,Yes, blurry in the distance but take a look closer to the aircraft. What I am about to explain was easier to see in the full image but I had to reduce it to meet the forum image posting limitation. If you look in the center of the pic, about one-third of the way up from the bottom, you will see a line of trees bordering a road. Those trees are clear. At the one o'clock position from those trees you will see a large grouping of trees, also very clear. However, if you look just to the left of the large group and directly above the line of trees, you will see a blurry block of trees. Why is the texture block below and the one to the right clear, but that specific texture block blurry? That's not the only one, just an example.I probably should have circled those areas in MS Paint for easier identification. I do suspect those who know what to look for will easily pick out the blurry texture blocks. In motion it is even more noticeable, the texture blocks popping in and out as the aircraft moves. The image is from the default location for FSX. Full name escapes me. Aircraft was the C152, weather clear at noon.Richard

Cessna 152. There is one in FSX, correct. Or is it a 150? How about if I call it the smallest Cessna in FSX. The one without Garmin G1000.
