In general but not over-generalizing, for 1080p simming, 8GB of VRAM is generally sufficient, this is with the understanding that we set our graphical sliders in a realistic manner. OTOH even systems with 12-16GB of VRAM will struggle when sliders are set unrealistically high. One big exception is VR. It is so demanding that even some people with flaghsip rigs have to tweak settings to get an acceptable smoothness.
