HSP Hot Springs to HOC Highland County

Featured Replies

We're taking our TBM "960" on a 200nm flight from Hot Springs Virginia to Highland County Ohio (just east of Cincinnati).  Both airports are freeware at the usual place.  Stunning livery by master painter TimHH.

HSP is situated atop a small mountain in the Allegheny Range, elevation 3792 msl

We depart IFR and soon are talking to Washington Center - it's pretty out here, even though the clouds are thick

Lake Moomaw - apparently known for it's trout fishery

(There is still a really annoying model error with the TBM 930's prop and spinner - it looks transparent from many angles)

Looks like we'll have a decent tailwind...

About half way there - the ground speed of over 300 knots makes short work of this flight

A decent BKN layer...we're approaching Charleston, WV (KCRW)

Still it's a great day to fly!

Apparently this town is called Scary haha... just west of CRW

Not exactly certain which river this is...  it runs north of HTS - it might be on the Ohio/WV border

I believe we're coming up on the Scioto River, which runs south through Columbus, OH (CMH) and then runs into the Ohio River near Portsmouth (PMH)

Yes, confirmed it is that river, here's the town of Piketon, OH - home to one of three Uranium enrichment facilities in the US.

Continuing our descent we load up the RNAV 23 at KHOC

Flying just north of Paint Creek State Park (and lake) and the further one to the south is Rocky Fork lake which lies about 1 mile to the east of our destination airport

HOC is a superbly done freeware airport - also has some nice corn on the west side of the field.

KHOC is 3500 ft long so plenty large enough for most general aviation aircraft.  Thanks for viewing!

Indeed, a stunning livery and two remarkable freeware airport sceneries, Ryan, brought to life in your expert series of pictures and dialogs ...

BTW, I'm very familiar with most of the places in your post here...🙂..., having lived in Ohio/Columbus for many years, and from numerous eastward trips to Washington, DC; briefly passing through the state of West Virginia each time. The river, you mention at the border of Ohio and West Virginia is Ohio River; recall it well from driving over its bridge at Wheeling, West Virginia.

Yes, as you've mentioned, Scioto River is a household name in Columbus ...🙂...It passes through the heart of downtown Columbus. Named after the river, there is a racino (a racetrack plus casino), called Scioto Downs, that I have visited a few times...

A very nice trip in a very nice airplane...! It brings back some old memories...🙂...

Thanks for sharing...!
