Prepar3D v5.4 weird stutters after reinstalling

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I am facing some issues with P3D v5.4 on Windows 11 Pro after reinstalling it:

First of all, when I reinstalled the sim, I didn't format the dedicated SSD; I have uninstalled and manually cleaned any leftovers of files and folders, as well as registries.

When I reinstalled it, I started noticing some weird stutterings especially with FSLabs (any aircraft of the A320 family, base and sharklets version), especially during cruise, making almost impossible to let the sim run during cruise phase.

Other add-on aircraft perform well, but I notice occasional stutters at any part of the flight, and some "general slowness" (not usual before) when loading the sim.

I have already take many precautions and verifications, as:

- run the sim in administrator mode;

- given the P3D main folder and add-ons folder full control in all users and systems, under the security tab;

- re-installed the FSLabs with the antivirus and firewall off;

- rolled back some versions of the Nvidia drivers...

I am going out of ideas. I suspect it may be a conflict between Windows updates and P3D V5, because actually some of the stuttering started before my reinstallation of the sim; although not that strong at that time.

Any thoughts or ideas to help me?

Thanks everyone!

A fellow FSL Concorde user was having the same problems. He tried reducing scenery sliders to minimum but the stutters persisted.

It was only when he reverted to v5.3HF2 they ended. I reverted myself two years ago when I was getting random freezes worldwide with AIG Ai aircraft active.

No such problems with v5.3HF2.

What settings are your special effects sliders on? I lost all of my stutters by putting them to low. 🙂

Hello Ray!

It really indeed seems a Windows vs. P3D version problem... I am seriously considering this, as the problem started some months ago with Windows updates...

Will try to go back to P3D v5.1 (for me it was the most stable)

Best,

Tiago

I would recommend v5.3HF2 rather than anything older.

I agree with Ray.  Performance is great and CTD's are very rare and avoidable.  (Mucking wtth scenery and graphics settings during flight and repeatedly reloading complex aircraft can do it).

Ray,

I use v5.4 too. As you say v5.3HF2 has no stutters at all, I wonder if I could roll-back to it using the client.msi only ?

Thank you,

Sotiris

That should work but for full confidence I’d replace Scenery and Content too.

Uninstall Scenery, Content and Client in that order. Then the remaining P3D entry in Control Panel / Add/remove programs.

Don’t touch any other files. Clear out the Shaders folder too.

Ray,

Thanks for your response. Understood, but the problem is that I have in my disposal the client only and not scenery & content individually. I have the full reinstall exe as an alternative, but I hesitate to do a full reinstall. That's the reason of my query.

@sotiris, are those files available on your LM account? They should be.

Yes, they are. Does the 5.3.17.28160 include HF2 ?

If I uninstall the remaining P3D entry with add/remove programs will I lose addon sceneries & addon aircraft and have to reinstall them ? Which are the "any other files" ?

No. The uninstall process only removes what it originally installed. All your add-ons are untouched. Any other files such as prepar3d.cfg will be lost. Make a backup to assist in retaining settings.

Remember to retain your licence when prompted.

Considering a move to P3D, but their website only sells v.6.    However, I may be wrong.

How does a home user purchase and download specific versions of P3D?

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-14700F

32.0 GB memory

Windows 11 Home

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060
