Big Update for the iniA340 is out. v1.0.2

Yes streaming works great if you have fast reliable internet and there are no peering issues with Asobos network.

Downloading is a good fall back but I would stick with streaming unless you know you can’t for whatever reason.

  • FYI.  This update kills WINWING MCDU functionality for me at least and many more in forums.  YMMV. TANSTAAFL. Blue skies, -B

  • Make sure that the a340 IS NOT your selected plane in Free Flight. It should then install without difficulty.  -B

I don't understand why anyone would want to stream the content that they aren't required to stream (with the exception of console users)?  On all my downloaded content I get notification if there is any pending update and I can decide if I do or don't want to update.  I prefer to decide when to update because sometimes updates can break other functionality so I checkin' with forums to see it's impact before I do the update.

The issue I had with A340 not updating wasn't due to download vs. streaming, it was because I had the aircraft selected in Free Flight.  As a test, I had switched over to streaming to see if that made a difference, and it still would NOT update the A340 to 1.0.2 because I had it selected in Free Flight.  As soon as I unselected the aircraft in Free Flight, all was good.

What’s hard to understand? If you have a good internet connection (and this is the key requirement), streaming is better. Takes less space, always updated.

if you don’t have a good internet connection, downloading is better.

What works for each one of us depends on internet and your providers network with Azure. For me, streaming is faster and better than downloading, so I do that. Yes, I’ve tested.

for you, downloading is better. I mean that’s why they gave us options … what works for me may not work for you.

Downloading has infinitely more advantages than a streaming service. The fact that MFS 2024 does not have an offline mode is what prevents me from only purchasing one add-on in 2024 (the download trees) and only using my add-ons ported from 2020.

Taking the performance hit to conserve local storage space is the hard to understand.

1Gbps internet connection (assuming running close to rated speed) is about 125 MB/s … perfect condition with no high server loads, not Azure issues, no ISP issues.

Local storage NVMe M.2 Gen 4 is 7450 MB/s

Local storage NVMe M.2 Gen 5 is 13400 MB/s

Local storage is about 59X to 107X faster than Streaming (on a good day).

Ok, you keep downloading then. Thank you.
