REX Sky Force 3D / P3D (V 5.3)

Featured Replies

HI 😀

I use the flight simulator Prepaid 3D V5.3. I have no problems with it; it works perfectly.

I purchased the Rex Sky Force program (build number: 5.0.2022.0516) for P3D (V5.3). The purchase, download, and installation went smoothly. I checked the manual to see if this software is compatible with P3D version 5. The manual stated that the software is compatible with P3D V 5.I installed the software as standard and did not make any changes. I only checked that the settings were correct. I also checked that the path to P3D was set correctly, and it is.

Then I tested whether the program works with P3D. To test this, I installed a different cloud structure. In Rex, I selected a different thundercloud structure and installed this texture as well. The installation was successful. I then started P3D to test whether the changes had been applied. I activated the thunderclouds in P3D, but unfortunately I found that the changes had not been applied; the original 3D clouds from P3D still appeared.

I have the same problem with the twilight lighting. I selected and installed a different twilight in Rex, and the installation was also successful. I tested in P3D to see if the new twilight had been applied. Unfortunately, I found that it did not work.

Unfortunately, support for REX has already expired, so I have to contact you. Because I really want to continue using this software, I really hope that someone can help me with this little problem. I would be very grateful if you could tell me what I need to do to make the Rex software work.

Thank you for your help.

Kind regards

Bruno 😀

@Hammer88, welcome to AvSim Bruno. I asked the question in Google. This was the answer…

”Yes, REX Sky Force can change the moon's appearance, including its texture and phase, but it doesn't allow you to change its color to an unnatural hue

. It focuses on injecting realistic textures and atmospheric effects based on real-world phenomena, rather than fantasy features.

  • How it works: To change the moon's texture, you would select a different moon set within the REX Sky Force interface. For example, a user on a forum shared their preference for "Moon Set 02" to achieve a specific look.

Hi Ray, 😀

Thank you very much for your reply.

Then I tested whether the program works in P3D. To test it, I wanted to change the moon colors. In P3D, the original moon color is gray. In Rex, I changed the color to yellow and also installed this texture. Then I restarted P3D to see if the changes had been made. Unfortunately, I found that there had been no change. The moon color was still gray. I had the same problem with the different cloud textures.

Here's another important suggestion for improvement. It would be much easier if we could edit the text ourselves, which would save you a lot of work.

Many thanks,

I’ve edited your original post Bruno. New members need their first few posts approving but after that you can edit your posts I think within a certain timeframe. 👍

Hello Hammer88.   I also use P3Dv5.31 and have REX Sky Force 3D installed and running.   I read your post and thought I would test whether changing the cloud textures on the fly would work and change the clouds in the SIM as I sat at the airport.

Seconds after changing my cloud textures they changed in the simulator, while having "Major Thunderstorms"  weather setting enabled in the sim.   So it worked.

I normally use Clear Skies when trying to conserve GPU memory on long hauls in complex AC but REX has always performed well for me when I do use it.

 Questions for you:

1) Are you using "Enhanced Atmospherics" in the WORLD configuration in P3D?

2) Do you have the Volumetric Clouds at Medium or above?  My 9GB 3080TI can only handle Medium.   High makes it crash.

3)   What weather setting are you using in P3D?   Did you try your tests using "Custom"?

Hi SonBrit 😀

I apologize for the late reply.

I would like to thank you very much for your response 😀. Your reply has been very helpful. Now I know that the Sky Force 3D software works without any problems for you. That means the software should also work for me; the problem is probably with my P3D settings, that's where the error lies. I am happy to answer your three questions:

Question 1

Yes, in P3D, the Enhanced Atmospherics function is activated in the Weather section.

Question 2

I have set the clouds to Medium.

Question 3

I prefer to fly when the sky is cloudy. But sometimes I also fly when the sky is clear. Yes, I used the custom function to set the clouds in P3D.

Can you please tell me what settings I need to make in P3D so that the software works for me?I would like to thank you very much for your help.

Best regards from Switzerland

Bruno 😀

You should be ok with your current settings but make sure you have installed the cloud theme you have built by choosing the cloud types you want in REX.   Then switch the weather themes ein P3D to "REX Weather Sync" if you want the clouds matching your local weather or create your own P3D weather theme using "Custom".   Make sure you have REX settings configured to inject weather if you're using the REX Weather Sync theme in P3d.

Note:    REX is no longer selling, creating or updating products for P3D.

Hi SonBrit 😀

Thank you very much for your feedback and information. I am very happy that you are supporting me in this matter.

Before I posted this message in the forum, I contacted support. I explained exactly what my problem was to support. Unfortunately, support wrote back to me saying that they no longer offer support for Rex 3D Force. That's why I have to go to the forum.

I have to tell you that I haven't installed any betting themes in Rex, but do everything custom.

I'd now like to tell you what worked and what didn't.

1.  What worked was that I was able to install the Rex clouds (they look really realistic). I was also able to change the color of the moon.

2. What didn't work was: I couldn't change the color of dawn, I couldn't change the daytime sky, and I couldn't change the color of dusk or the sunlight.

I would like to ask you what settings I need to make in Rex and P3D so that I can adjust the weather manually. For example, I only want to change the light of dawn, change the daytime sky, change the light of dusk,  and change the light of the sun.

I have an idea. To simplify communication, I would like to ask you to send me your email address so that I can take various screenshots of Rex Skyforce and send them to you.

Thank you again for your help.

Best regards Bruno 😀

Hello Hammer88,

I have not tried to change those things through REX and wasn't aware you could do that.   Let me give it a lookC and if I can make it happen I will let you know and we can converse offline.

Hi SonBrit,

Sorry for the late reply, and thank you very much for your feedback and information.

It is possible to change the weather in Rex Skyforce. For example, you can change the light from dusk, and much more. Since you are not familiar with these functions, I will be happy to explain how it works.

To change the weather in Rex, you need to do the following:

If you want to change the dusk, for example, do the following:

1 Start Rex.

2 In the Rex window, you will see a bar on the left-hand side. Click on the cloud icon with your mouse.

3 A list of different functions will then appear at the bottom. Click on the Skies button with your mouse, then on the Dusk button. In this window, you will see two white arrows that you can use to navigate through the different scenarios (there are 26 scenarios in total).

4 Once you have found a scenario you like, click on Install now. This will install the scenario in P3D. At the top, you will see a green bar confirming that the scenery has been successfully installed in P3D. Then click on the green bar on Close.

You can also use these instructions for other functions; the process is the same.

I tried to install a different sunlight setting on my computer, but unfortunately it didn't work. For testing purposes, I would be very grateful if you could install a different sunlight and see if it works for you, and then let me know whether it worked or not. I suggest you install sunlight set number 4, as this set shows the difference best. To change the sunlight, simply click on the sun icon at the bottom of the list.

For testing purposes, I also suggest that you change the dawn and daytime sky to see if this feature works for you.

I was able to install the Rex clouds and moonlight, and it worked for me.

I wish you every success.

I look forward to your feedback and to hearing whether the setting works for you.

Best regards,
Bruno

Just a note about installing the REX moon textures.  It will also increase the size of the moon to more than six times the normal size which makes it look unnaturally large in the sky.  REX Skyforce will also change the size of the sun.

To fix this, you need to go to: C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5 and look for a file named suneffect.cfg.  Open this file in Notepad or a text editor and you will see at the top, two settings, one for the sun size and one for the moon size.

The normal, and realistic size is 900 for both the sun and moon.  Skyforce changes the moon to over 6000 which is ridiculously large.  Just change the sizes back to 900 (and save the document) if you want to be realistic.  I personally like them a bit larger for a more cinematic effect, so I change them both to about 1200.

Hi Zylx,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I don't have a problem with the size of the moon and the sun; they are in their original state. Changing the light from the moon worked, but not the light from the sun.

The post I put on the forum describes my problem in detail. It would be best if you read it again.

Best regards,
Bruno
