90 miles in Alaska...in the B3NINETY1A (Light) BizJet...

Featured Replies

Today being Friday, I was in the mood for some excitement, fun, and speed in my virtual world...🙂...Lo and behold, the MSFS2024 Beechcraft (light) Business Jet, the B390 Premier 1A, trending on my Xbox/MSFS opening screen, immediately drew my attention. This a/c was released by Carenado for MSFS2024 on Nov. 11, with an MSFS2020 version expected to follow soon.

Anyway, I thought to myself, here I go again, about to be ensnared by the external beauty of yet another Carenado aircraft...🙂...notwithstanding any lack of fidelity (and authenticity) of the internal avionics, that I am likely to encounter. I was not disappointed on either count...🙂...This (SIM) airplane is surely a thing of beauty, but rather limited in some other aspects of the (internal) simulation...Oh well...

I wished to fly it, today, in Alaska, that I've not visited in recent memory. So, I chose the short 90-mile segment from Skagway to Juneau, along Lynn Canal, the famous (inlet) channel of water, that forms the (historical) passage into the mainland of Alaska. The city of Skagway, located in a narrow glacial valley and surrounded by stunning high mountains of coastal Alaska (see images), had played a critical role in the feverish mass migration of Klondike Gold Rush (aka Yukon Gold Rush), of 1896-1899.

Skagway (PAGY) airport has a runway of 3,500 ft, whereas the B3901A (normally) requires about 5,000 ft runway real estate for takeoff. This, of course, did not deter this intrepid (virtual) aviator...🙂...to successfully pull off a "high stakes" departure from this airport (and live to talk about it...🙂...), emboldened by the strength of two powerful Turbofan engines (these Williams FJ44 powerplants were co-developed with Rolls-Royce; specifically with light business jets in mind).

In RW, there are regular flights operated by Cessna C208 Caravan airplanes between Juneau and Skagway. For this flight, here, I've followed the SimBrief route from Skagway to Juneau, landing on the eastward RWY 8 of PAJN.

It was an exciting and scenic (short) flight today, in this (Carenado) Beechcraft 390 Premier 1A business jet (note the curious designation of "B3NINETY1A" on the close-up shot of the control-yoke). The airplane transported me successfully, and in style, across the same challenging (and mountainous) Alaskan passage, which, once, in a span of just 2-3 years, had witnessed the influx of nearly 50,000 to 100,000 gold prospectors, in mass migration, into the interior mainland Alaska and then onwards to Canada's Dawson City, the epicenter of Klondike Gold Rush.

Hope you enjoy this collection of images.

Thanks for viewing...!

Hi Dillon:

Appreciated the Upvote…🙂…and for NOT saying, “Who buys Carenado?”…🙂

Of course, I fully understand the holders of that opposed philosophy in our SIM…🙂

Cheers…!

(BTW, I also wished to add for your benefit…🙂…this one has a decent interior cabin though really tiny, so, expect the same in your MSFS2020, whenever it comes out…hopefully soon…)

Really nice set. Especially liked the fifth shot from the bottom (and, of course 🙂) the final shot. Thanks for this introduction to the upcoming (for me) Beech. Will be looking forward to it (hopefully) in MS2020.

Thank you, John.

I think you’ll enjoy this Beech mini-Jet in MSFS2020, when it arrives. The Collin’s Pro Line 21 avionics system (and FMC) in this rendition is less than optimal, but the overall modeling is sharp and pleasing to the eye. The lateral navigation, along Alaska’s narrow Lynn Canal airspace, worked perfectly on my short but challenging flight today.

Regarding that final shot…🙂…, excuse the distortion of the pilot figure in the shot due to fisheye lens effect. I need to tune my Xbox controller camera views for finer adjustments.

Cheers…!

Fine set of shots, thanks for sharing !

cheers 😉

How did you guys make Flight Simulator 98 so nice looking?

Hey PB:

Did you like the screenshots (or not)…🙂…?

I thought for a moment that my weary eyes were playing tricks on me this morning, and if I need to consider changing my User symbol here in this Screenshots Forum…🙂…, if you become a regular…

I gather you’re a fan of FS98 (and FS2004). Yeah, it was the FS98 CD, that I had (casually) picked up from one of those bins of movie DVDs in Walmart, that had got me started in this hobby.

Oh boy, it has been 25+ years already…🙂

BTW, there is at least someone else here who occasionally posts FS9 screenshots…pretty nice ones too, but I don’t recall seeing any from FS98…

Cheers…!

LMAO. Yes most of this crud from MS can be picked up at Walmart for less than $20.00 including the latest version MSFS2024. Cheers.

I believe one of the “not-so-aviation-aware”  Walmart apprentices had mistakenly put the FS98 CD into that bin of (nearly discarded) old movies, for another “not-so-aviation-aware” shopper…🙂

Yes, once upon a time, I do recall seeing FS2004 and FSX CD/DVDs (and other FS add-ons) on the shelf there in Walmart (and in electronic stores); though those items disappeared quickly with the advent of digital downloads.

It was nice to visit in the weekends and browse those titles, with a cup of coffee in hand.

Oh well…Back now to MSFS2024 (or FS98, as the case maybe…🙂…)…
