November 27, 2025Nov 27 I am assuming that Data Centers might be after buying as much current technology RAM as they can, so DDR5, and maybe at a pinch, DDR4? So I am really disappointed to see that 2nd hand prices of DDR3 RAM have also sky rocketed :-(. I was preparing to upgrade an old server of mine running here at home, that uses DDR3/1600 ECC LRDIMMS. Second hand DIMMS of this type were relatively cheap, as this is really old technology now. I was planning on replacing 256GB RAM to 512 GB RAM, but now I see that the 2nd hand price of these old DDR3 sticks has gone up 2.5x This doesnt make any sense to me (no data center and VERY few people would still be buying DDR3/1600 RAM), and yet it seems everyone is keen to extort as much profits from anyone they can, including 2nd hand markets, even if the justifications arent there.
