November 18, 2025Nov 18 With my 3060ti, I was happy running at 1440 res and averaging 30 fps with airliners and traffic addon. I recently upgraded to a 9070xt. Yet, I am frustrated by the fact the my fps have not changed. If anything, they are lower. As a fairly experienced simmer and pc nerd, I tried everything imaginable. One thing I notice is that the latency of the cpu is in high 20's, while the GPU is practically zero. Lod or TOD make no difference. Whatever changes I make in msfs graphics setting barely have any effect. At this point, I welcome any theories.
November 18, 2025Nov 18 Do you have SMT enabled? If so, try disabling it and check... Well, you should have tested BEFORE buying a new GPU if your 30FPS are due to a GPU limit or due to a CPU limit. If it was the latter, even a 5090 would not provide you more FPS... But a 7800X3D should do more than 30FPS in most cases. Can you provide screenshots of your settings and of the dev overlay in the sim? November 19, 2025Nov 19 You definitely should have checked to see what was holding your sim back BEFORE performing an upgrade as stated above. Sorry for the pile on.. but since the deed has already been done It would be a good idea to put the sim in dev mode and verify what exactly is bottle necking the sim. In addition to that please use the Adrenalin software to..set up the sim specific profile .. enable the monitoring overlay and enable the GPU frequency/ CPU frequency/CPU temp/ GPU VRAM and /GPU temp .. use the sim in the most demanding scenarios and see whats maxing out. I literally have a 7800X3D back in its retail box gathering dust on my desk because that was the first component i identified as needing to be upgraded when MSFS2024 was released. The 9070XT GPU that i upgraded to after my cpu in terms of performance grunt would have been the perfect complement to my 9800X3D at my resolution if it wasn't occasionally limited by its 16GB of Vram in the most demanding scenarios. Also just as important is how you have configured your sim. Full on Ultra at an airport like Heathrow with addons and ai aircraft ? yeah .. that's a big ask with the 7800X3D when i had it installed a few months ago. But the sim has been optimized a bit since then so i don't know what the experience is now.
