Win 11 and "Auto HDR"

Featured Replies

OLED monitors and HDR look incredible, and enabling HDR10 in MSFS 2024 really makes the visuals pop.

That said, I ran into an issue with a Windows 11 setting called Auto HDR that seems to cause problems in MSFS 2024. Instead of typical stuttering, I noticed more of a frame dragging effect along with an overall drop in performance.  The setting is now disabled in my system and everything is running normal again.

Curious if anyone else has experienced this with Auto HDR enabled in Windows 11 while running MSFS 2024?

I have a LG OLED C4 48 inch screen and I don't use Auto HDR for that very reason.

Auto HDR is only for games that are Standard Definition to make it brighter.

Disable Auto HDR … but that is unlikely the source of your issue.  HDR increases data processing as you have more dynamic range of colors.  Some TV/Monitors will lower refresh rates in order to operate HDR signal/data … check your monitor specs and refresh rates after you apply HDR … and some monitors/TV will not support VRR when HDR is enabled which could also contribute.

I currently using LG C5 43” and HDR and VRR work fine … a good TV/monitor will also save any color adjustments specific to HDR and so you don’t have to make the same adjustments every time you go in/out of HDR.

This is strange, since Auto HDR is only supposed to kick in when the game doesn't natively support HDR. Are you on the SU5 beta by chance? I've always kept it on since it (usually) improves the visuals of games that don't support HDR, but I've never noticed any issues with MSFS 2024 on SU4.

I have a very good HDR monitor. Made some small color and brightness adjustments in Windows and have it permanently since then. No issues.

Windows does allow to enable/disable this feature by App so you would be able to leave it "on" for anything else but MSFS.  YMMV but disabling this for MSFS helped me greatly.
