March 28Mar 28 I upgraded to v2024 SU4 and I'm really enjoying what it delivers, however I'm finding that some v2020 freeware and payware airports have double windsocks. Has someone figured out a way to create an exclusion file to eliminate this minor issue? I'm willing to learn since most creators that have abandoned these airports. Thanks! MSFS

March 28Mar 28 Maybe creating another/new scenery with a higher priority (folder name alphabetical order zzzz_) with a specific exclude? This would exclude the duplicate windsocks. It may also required to add a new proper single one. To be experimented. PS: I did that kind of trick for my own freewares. I build them with 2020 SDK, and build anoter zzzz_vbcorp-yyyyyy scenery with 2024 SDK that includes specific exclusion or addition for 2024. Edited March 28Mar 28 by vbazillio Vincent B. Actually, the real reason is to have high quality default texture for runways for my 2020 build scenery into MSFS2024. By default, if you put a MSFS2020 airport scenery in MSFS2024, the runways will be all gray uniform texture. My zzz_vbcorp_____ define a MSFS2024 runway exactly on top of the MSFS2020 runway, but with weathered, scratches and tires marks... etc. On this zzzz scenery I also add objects that disappeared from 20 to 24, exclude extra windsock 😉 and most of time refine the vegetation which is defined differently from 20 to 24. Can you please create a quick step by step process on how to do this with an airport? I only have v2024 installed. I hope I don't need to have msfs 2020 installed. Thank you! MSFS

Now that you mention it, I've also seen lots of blurry textures in v2024. It's the kind of issue that almost made me go back to v2020. It takes me a few days to reinstall v2020. It takes a few minutes to install v2024. MSFS

Have you already build an airport package, There’s a lot of small this and this that makes a « quick step by step » barely useful. 1. With the addon that have the double windsock active, create a new airport scenery 2. Add an exclusion rectangle to cover the double windsock 3. If needed add a correct windsock 4. Be sure to have your new build addon in a folder loaded at a higher priority (zzz-__ will put it Edited March 29Mar 29 by vbazillio Vincent B. March 29Mar 29 Ok, let's try to get a little deeper into "let's remove this extra windsock". Caution: I'm a amateur dev and lazy SDK documentation reader and certainly, there's smarter way to perform the same task. Here's how I would proceed. It's not a how-to-build-an-airport tutorial. It's just the basic/raw step-by-step to create an fake airport containing exclusion rectangle to remove extra windsocks. In this example, it's the Bahamas MYCB airport with 3 windsocks among 2 on apron 😉 1. Load MSFS with Developer Mode ON and with only with the scenery you need to fix. Start a flight (at apron) at the airport you want to fix. 2. File - New Project - Fill the fields - CREATE NEW PROJECT. NB: the folder that you put there will contain the build/compile airport (see point 14). 3. What kind of item do you want to add? Select PACKAGE. 4. what do you want to create? Select AIRPORT 5. Choose a display name (MYCB Windsock Fix for CFIJose) and a Package Name "MYCB Windsock Fix for CFIJose". Company name is... vbcorp 😉 6. As you're located at the airport you want to fix, MSFS propose to "override an existing airport" and MYCB is selected. Select CREATE AIRPORT 7. In the Project Editor window, expand the "vbcorp-airport-mycb-cat-island outdated" to display "scenery Airport". Select "Scenery Airport". 8. In the "Project Inspector" window (if needed display this window by selecting View - Project Inspector" from the Project Editor window), select LOAD IN EDITOR 9. (Position the view on your extra windsock) In the "Object" window (if needed display this "Object" window by selecting View - Objects from the "Scenery Editor" window. This "Scenery Editor" window is visible from the main menu bar "Editors" - "Scenery Editors"), select Object Type : Exclusion Rectangle, then click ADD. This will position a big rectangle (yellow borders) with the size tool by default. Resize this rectangle to cover only the object you want to exclude. To resize the rectangle, keep left button click on the center white dot of the X,Y,Z and move mouse left or right 10. Move the rectangle over the extra windsock. On my PC, I use the button 3 of my mouse, on the center white dot of X,Y,Z to change action on rectangle from resize<->move<->rotate. 11. Repeat from 9 or duplicate your first exclusion rectangle to cover the second extra windsock. 12. SAVE SCENERY (in "Sceney Editor" window) 13. From the Project Editor window, select "Build All in project". Once your project compile (build), the Console window should display a result (hopefully "Finished, 1 skipped, 5 done and 0 failed, took 099ms.857us" (or something more or less the same). 14. You can close everything (close console, devmode Exit Devmode), close MSFS. 15. In the folder indicated in #2, you should find a folder name "PACKAGE". Inside this folder "PACKAGE", you'll find the output of your build/compilation. There's inside a root folder name of your project name. This folder had to be rename and move to your Community folder, for example zzzz_whatever_mycb. It contains a manifest.json, a layout.json, bglindex.bout and 2 folders Scenery et ContentInfo. 16. Launch MSFS. Enjoy. The MSFS scenery editor and each PC are so different that I understand there's a dozen of (bad) chance that windows and options don't appeared exactly what there're suppose to be (as on my PC). And hopefully, there'sn't much typos in this text as AVSIM doesn't allow future edit 😉 Hope it helps! Vincent B. March 29Mar 29 Author Just a note of gratitude to Vincent. This tutorial worked well. I managed to remove windsocks from a few airports. Once you do one or two, it's not that complicated. I'm trying to figure out how to enable a camera in dev mode that will allow me to move around the airport faster. Any tips are appreciated. MSFS

May 12May 12 Tell ya wot... I'm rather surprised and, to an extent, a little angry to think that after all the years this single issue has been raised time and time again in 2020, and it is still being seen in 2024. Or am I missing something?
