The useful SDK clarification would be:

- whether the WXR return is a true volumetric beam or a slice/projection
- whether any beam width / beam broadening with range is modeled
- whether attenuation, occlusion, or shadowing are modeled
- whether structured weather/radar data is planned beyond the bitmap output
- whether any structured Doppler / cell-motion data is planned for turbulence and predictive windshear logic

Goes without saying we all massively appreciate the work being done, and look forward to further improvements!

Thank you, it's very useful and objective feedback Aamir, on how the API can be improved!  Hope that @MattNischan and @SeedyL can take this information in, as it is coming from the head of Fenix himself!

What good is this with no vertical development to thunderstorms???

I agree, all this talk of fancy radar capabilities and yet the sim still cannot generate the visual structure of a thunderstorm or any actual dire effects of flying in or near one.....

The sim can absolutely do that. It just doesn't in live weather all the time for some reason.

No it cannot. Anvil formations do not happen. Not in Preset mode and certainly not in live weather.

It is a volumetric beam. You can test this by making a flat precip layer, and then slewing up and down towards and away from the layer. You can see the returns move towards and away from your aircraft as a result of the beam intersection.

As far as the answers to the other questions, I'm afraid it's not really my place to field them. DevSupport would be the appropriate venue for those kinds of questions.
