PMDG OC2

Featured Replies

Very close now to adding support for 3rd party liveries. I've taken a slightly different approach to OC2 in that importing a 3rd party PTP makes it available in the catalog of available liveries (which means copying the PTP to your liveries repository directory) Then you can install it there. You'll be able to delete custom liveries too via the normal UI.

Right now it's a single import per livery as you can also set the custom icon. I'd like to eventually add support for bulk importing.

Not sure whether I'll support livery exporting as I don't think there's much of a market for that given the aged nature of P3D and market share. This app is mainly to allow people to continue flying the old school stuff

Pretty petty IMHO. I wound up mass installing everything into P4 and 5 and backing everything up to a backup drive. I still use 4 and 5 on a pretty regular basis.

I'll leave this link here to the PTP opener I've used that seems to work well - you will need to manually install the livery after it's unpacked them, but at least it is GUI. https://gofile.io/d/G4OA

Hopefully this is allowed. In a similar fashion to VHOJT, I've prepared a Python script which will download the liveries from PMDG's CDN in the same way that OC2 did. Feel free to review the source of

Usually I'm a lurker on forums these days, but this just really struck a wrong chord with me. First they miscommunicate the date, OC2 was completely shut off today, 4 days earlier than the May 31st timeline. Then, Mathijs on the PMDG forums says that there are no plans to bring any P3D products to OC3. Anyone still using PMDG products in P3D are essentially swindled of their money and the product they rightfully paid for and have the right to use, 4 days before the expected date. The very least they could have done is released an end-of-life update to either disconnect it from OC2, or released official solutions for livery installation. Unbelievably scummy behavior.

Yep I second every word as I've just had a complete computer crash, I've had to do a full system reinstall got to PMDG and Oc2 is gone, got an email from PMDG telling me it's done, now on the search for livery replacements.

See page 2 or 3 for my livery downloader utility. This downloads directly from PMDG's storage servers. This will download the liveries for a separate app that I'm developing which will allow you to install them.

I'm planning on creating a release later with my app. I still need to improve the error handling but I can develop iteratively with subsequent updates

Right, sorry for the spam.

v0.0.10 is now released which contains the 3rd party livery support. https://github.com/ColinM9991/Livery-Installer/releases/tag/v0.0.10

I've also created a repository for the PTP download script (which I've documented in the readme of the installer) https://github.com/ColinM9991/Livery-Downloader

The latest download scripts will download only the PTP and Icons, since the configs aren't necessary. I've also removed the 737NGX so only the P3D 737NGXu, 747 and 777 liveries will be download.

Please test, troubleshoot and report issues here or via DMs. There is a note around troubleshooting in the installer README which I recommend checking out.

Now I need to get back to my day job 😅

This is awesome to know you are working on these things. I am very much looking forward both the installer and the downloader. It's good to know not all hope is lost in getting the official liveries again. There's so many I am missing.

Try both out now, you'd be doing me a massive favour in helping test. They're both available via the links above

I did re-run the downloader script earlier today so I can say with confidence that you should have no issues in downloading the official liveries.

That makes me very happy to know I can download them even now. I will download both of your apps and give them a try then. I will let you know how it goes.

@ColinM9991 I just ran the downloader, and it did successfully download all the ptp livery files from what I can tell. There was an error message that showed up twice before it began downloading the liveries which you can see here:

PMDG Downloader Error

I will try the livery installer tomorrow when I have more time and see how it goes.

One request that I have, is would you be able to have these apps work for the FSX era PMDG aircraft as well? I do not know how big of an ask this is, I am no developer, but I still love and fly my FSX era PMDG planes. In fact, the only PMDG aircraft I own for P3D is the Queen of the Skys II. For FSX I still fly the 737NGx and the 777. I never got around to buying the P3D versions before they stopped selling them, now the only option I have is to use the FSX versions in FSX (I use the Steam version).

I also would like to add that in the instructions you wrote for the downloader, you said to put it on a drive that has at least 20 GB of space, but I am seeing about 29 GB worth of ptp files.

These are both warnings from the Python dependency installation process, nothing to worry about. The batch file streamlines the typical developer experience (creating a venv, installing packages via pip, running the script)

Unfortunately not at this point. The issue is that I don't own FSX or the PMDG products on FSX so it would be hard for me to test. The repository is open source though so I'm more than happy for community contributions too, should somebody wish to do so. Maybe if you can share the steps for manually installing FSX liveries then I can see if there's any parity between FSX and P3D, then I'll assess the feasibility of developing this without testing.

Is that the final size? Don't forget to archive the entire directory as a personal backup. The installer app will want to be pointed at the uncompressed liveries directory.

I may update the Python script eventually to ask for user input on which liveries they'd like to download, rather than downloading all P3D liveries.

I understand, I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. I would be willing to help in anyway that (with my limited knowledge on such things) I can to make that possible. I don't know if the method for installing ptp liveries is different from P3D, I've always been fine with just using OC2 to install official liveries. I am just learning how to ptp liveries are for P3D myself, since I've never had to manually do it before.

The file size that I get for the entire Livery-Downloader-main folder directory (where all files are contained) is exactly 28.6 GB for me after I downloaded the liveries.

I still haven't had a change to try your livery installer yet, but I will soon (I didn't have time to try it tonight). Once I do, I will post a report if I have any issues/thoughts about using it.

The unknown for me at the moment is whether the FSX PMDG aircraft use the same geometry. I extracted the metadata about their liveries prior to them shutting down the OC2 web servers and that was primarily focused on P3D rather than FSX. If the livery geometry is different then I won't have access to those files at this point.

Although you've figured it out, I will mention here for others that filling out the settings page (specifically the Liveries directory) is mandatory

For potential users, please ensure you read the readme on GitHub. This isn't aimed at anybody here but I've had messages on Discord from a few external people who aren't really grasping the concept of this application. It absolutely must be used in conjunction with the Livery Downloader (also in the readme) unless your only aim is to import 3rd party liveries.

Hi Colin,

Many thanks for all your efforts to resurrect the PMDG liveries.

I've just come back to simming after a lengthy gap, with a new pc. I guess I was a month too late for my PMDG aircraft.

I've never used python but downloaded it and ran the batch file. Sadly, I received 2 errors:

requirements.txt not found

main.py file not found in the src directory

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks again.
