Was watching a video on the event, some of the rules for this are insane, the modified pattern spacing, the quick landings - having to extend your landing cause the plane behind you is faster, etc. Multiple planes landing on the same runway at different colored dots, just seems so incredibly overwhelming! Several fatalities over the years too

Is anyone going to be there in person this year? Has anyone been previously?

yes, pilots should be experienced. I went there with my father many years ago.

I usually go every year. Skipped this year because I've got too much on my plate this summer, but it's fun to watch the streams.

If you've never been, it's definitely worth the trip. If you want to see everything, you need to go for the whole week. About halfway through the week the whole static lineup in the main display area changes over, so if you only go for a weekend you will miss some good stuff.

The show takes over the whole airport - you will definitely get your steps in, but you'll see some truly amazing aircraft. The air shows themselves are hours long, and the night shows should not be missed. You'll also often see brand new aircraft or ones not even in production. I got to watch the Hondajet prototype fly (and do aerobatics) one year, and Bally's Bomber makes an appearance frequently and is just awesome.

Even my wife, who really doesn't care about aviation, enjoys going to EAA with me.

The show's gotten more simmer-friendly over the years too. They don't look down on simmers anymore, and even hold workshops on using flight sims to improve real-world proficiency.

They also banned Dan Gryder for life, so that's a plus in their favor too. ;)
