July 27Jul 27 So for the recent celebrations, the rocket scientists at NASA (of all people!) decided to go whole hog and dress up one of their research jets in celebration. And it so happens that someone did a fine job of recreating the livery for the DCS F-15C.Here's the IRL jet from earlier this month:And here's a few snaps from my impromptu flight (and boy, am I rusty/sloppy - haven't flown this one in over 5 years...):Started up and holding for priority trafficAlways yield to planes that can crush you like a beer canNice angle just before the hold short:Gear travels - up, up and away! (I "might" have cut in between that flight of B-1 Lancers)flexing our backside:with a clean jet and half fuel, we're going straight up AND STILL ACCELERATING!! Funs almost over. Time to bring it home:Definitely NOT the place to bet your life on RadAlt! The speed brake is extended shortly before touch down, slowing through 170kts to just under 160kts or so as the mains touch:And once we're down, we keep the nose up around +10deg for aero braking. And because we want to look cool doing wheeliesAnd we KEEP it up all the way down the runway, until the plane slows down through 110kts and we ensure a soft-ish touch for the nose gear:I haven't flown this in years, mainly because it's not multi-role and it can't land on boats...but it flies so nice I think I need to spend some quality time getting re-acquainted. ;)

August 8Aug 8 My wife and I had the pleasure of seeing this and others (including the Southwest 250th 737 and others) at Oshkosh this year.It was very loud. 😂We live less than hour away, but EAA Oshkosh is very recommended if you’ve never been there.I had great fun (my wife did not) photographing Comanches and Twin Comanches in “Comanche Town”.

E.g., there’s a bunch of D-Day commemoratives, et al. Maybe there were, but I did a google search and only a small handful came up (and I did like that SWA!).
