  1. Unable to put checkmarks into the DXT5 and HDR option boxes. Other than that it loaded and started P3dV2.4 ok from the REX menu.
  2. An interesting story from someone I have known only via the Internet for many years. Of course there is probably another side to the story. http://www.toposim.net/blog/2014/12/18/starting-over-from-scratch/#more-356
  3. I would play with the sliders and see what is causing the issue. You may find that one adjustment solves the FPS/loading dilemma. If you can tolerate that setting then all is well. Otherwise you are at the system max. My system is much more modest (with fiber fraction at .01). While all sliders are not at max a few are and I enjoy 20+ fps at Orbx airports. Usually a lot higher but very weather dependent.
  4. Problem solved -- poking around the ESI installer I tried uninstalling all their files. It just locked up. Then found a mention of them fiddling the Autogen folder contents in the P3D folder. I had seen a change dated there but it is a binary file so I went no further. Found a download in their help files that deals directly with fixing some files in that folder after an ESI install. Replaced the original (after backup) with the downloaded autogen ESI files and now P3D works. Unfortunaty, as occurs in these things, my Repair seemed to have reset several parameters so I have to adjust controls for an example. I had a terrible time initialling with Isle of Man with the ESI installer as well. Why they insist on using such a complicated system is unknown to me. Orbx has far more items and they avoid that stuff.
  5. Starting P3d after installing some ESS scenery now gives me a crash during load. One thing I am going to try is a "repair". I have reverted to base scenery.cfg and an older unmodified p3d cfg. I looked at various file dates but saw no reason for the failure just when autogen is being loaded. Does anyone know just what a "repair" would do in the case of P3D? A reinstall of P3D may be needed after copying all of the ORBX and A2A stuff that I have as well as simobjects folder. ================== Repair - same erro/crash at autogen load.
  6. It seems the setting works for most people. Others may have low end hardware or heavy addon loads. A VERY rough estimate of comments seem to show that about 75% are seeing some improved performance. I actually forgot I had set this thing and was marveling at the 30fps to 40fps I was getting with nasty ActiveX (ASN) clouds. While a lot of customers of LM have used the setting perhaps LM could look into a slider with a simple English lable to adjust this so even the most cautious can enjoy the benefits. Regardless of the theoretical is does work for most.....
  7. The registry has been misused from day-one.
  8. This looks like a good solution. The free download time is 2 days and my Flash Get download manager does not work with the site. An alternative is to spend $5.00US. Quite reasonable, but the site is asking for my PayPal password instead of sending its transaction info to PayPal and having it ask for the password. The exposure is too high for major problems thus I have to pass.
  9. Does anyone make a creditable mesh for the state of Pennsylvania. It seems that all the mesh I see is partially global in that it covers a region and is price in the $70 area.
  10. Would the same thing also happen with the default landclass textures?
  11. They both use Excludes to remove existing data. So you could have several "vector based" products running and the one at the top of the scenery.cfg will win where they have the same coverage. It will not be the most accurate one but the top one.
  12. There is no mystery with the setting. It simply allocates resources. However, given two major factors the results and actual values will vary. Processing power (CPU & GPU) as well as addons that run currently with P3D. If it has no effect on your system do not embarrass yourself by making a public proclamation that it does not work Full Stop/Period. It does work in some systems. Where it doesn't MAY be due to resources already max'd or the system has much more power than needed for the P3d and programs that are running. My system is at the maximum capability of my GTX 550 1gb video card. However, I "believe" that the 4.3ghz overclocked 2550K cpu may be the key IN MY SYSTEM. Core zero runs very heavy while others are around 50%. So there is some CPU juice available. Does the change take advantage of that - who knows and I don't really care.-
  13. Using P3D Async on and triple buffering, blurs the ground texture. My 4.3ghz i2550K probably allows me to have extra cycles to accommodate the .01 setting. Slower CPUs, than some unknown Ghz value, will suffer from this change.
  14. FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.01 In Main Section of Prepar3d.cfg In the past I had 10fps in NY USA. Now, depending upon the view, I get a very acceptable level of performance. All scenery sliders to the right. Limited AI/traffic to 10. MSAA at 2. At 8 =10fps again. LOW END System/rig/PC nVidia GTX550 1gb memory, Intel 2550K over clocked to 4.3ghz, 8GB of memory/RAM Aircraft P3D/Carenado Bonanza Similar results at the ORBX Redding, CA airport and desert area. I have had some nice FPS in the past but the next day the same area gave me poor results. The tweak is the only change I have made tp P3DV2.4. My clouds are at High Detail 70 miles. Cloud shadows on. but limited to 10,000 meters. First 4 check boxes are set on bothe sides. Water at low. I have no idea of the underlying processes affected.
  15. I started all this because of the odd setting needed on trim for a reasonable takeoff. Thanks to all who really honed in on how the C172 should perform. However, I still had my problem. So I uninstalled the aircraft. Well, after the uninstall it was still there. Obviously something was messed up. I did not want to loose everything and I had what I believed to be the base and the updates so I just changed the names on the files in the Airplanes folder. Reinstalled up through 2.0 testing each step. Actually the base original install solved the rocket like takeoff. I then proceeded through update 2.0. The next was the 9/28/2014 update and there I am told I need to buy the P3D version. I faintly remember this but I assume I bought. Looking at the A2A store it says I didn't. Right now this 2.0 level addon appears to work ok after a takeoff and a circuit to landing. I'll see later if I want to buy a P3D version when this one works "ok" in P3Dv2.4 .
  16. Again, I never piloted an airplane except for 15 minutes in the air with a C152 and taxiing which was easier than with P3D and my plastic pedals. However, I am surprised that a 172N does the same thing my A2A virtual aircraft does in relation to the trim setting. Why would Cessna do that? If you trained in an older Cessna and then tried to fly the N you could easily be killed with a neutral trim setting.
  17. The reason I question the popular acceptance of the A2a C172 as a "gold standard" is the quite odd settings on the trim function. Are there other settings or functions that are not the same as an actual C172? I understand that each plane is different depending how its trim functions are set, the condition of the engine, occupancy, etc. It is just that the very odd trim function is bothersome and leads me to question other elements. If there is a better representation of a real C172 flight characteristics then I would use that, or its "air" file. Asking about this on the A2a forum only had responses from others with similar questions.
  18. Accuracy in this case is not appearance but flight characteristics. In my case I use the Maule and Bonanza from Lockheed plus the C152 from Carenado and the Piper Cub from A2A. Each of these all react in flight a bit differently. Those differences are easily seen as the known differences in the aircraft. I also have the A2a C172. It reacts in a manner that is difficult to explain. The most obvious thing is that setting Trim at the usual labeled indicator results in a very exaggerated nose up takeoff. Even getting it under control requires you to immediately adjust the trim. However, taking off with the trim pointer set near the letter K appears, to me, to be a normal takeoff performance. Setting in a field at full throttle the aircraft does not move. RPM at a max of 2300. Shutting down and doing an overhaul does not help. Setting brakes with CH pedals is tricky but i have them working on all the named aircraft except the A2a C172. The differential braking does not work at all. Other planes it works as expected. Since I am not a pilot and have only briefly been in a GA aircraft I can only feel that something is quite different with my copy of the A2a C172. Or, there is a general significant difference in adjusting it and its operation.
  19. As they say on the street "my bad". I tried to use FSX update in P3D.
  20. I have asked on the ASN forum but no response yet so hoping the larger community here may have the answer. I downloaded the latest B5931 update. When I start it I get an error that says: "A valid ASN version must be installed to apply this update." I have a valid version. It has worked for months. I think that the number string is the current version which says I am running version 5386. Does anyone have a suggestion while I await the ASN answer?
  21. The last update the same Can't Control Ambient Weather happened. Had to wait awhile for a fix. Now the same error after installing P3D V2.4 update. The update (not full install) went perfectly and no files had to be restored. I know little about the nuances of ASN and only use it with no fiddling. I assume I am not alone with this error.
