  1. Hello allI just got the Saitek Yoke & Throttle Quad. Overall the product is very good -- but I have a small problem with the clamp piece for the yoke. The clamp thing is too big to fit under my desk -- as there is only about 4-5 inches between the keyboard tray and the top of the desk.Without the clamp piece -- the yoke slides around when flying...I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and if they have any suggestions. Thanks!
  2. Hello all:Is it possible to move the 2D cockpit viewpoint up/down like in FS9? I was flying the default Lear, and tried the old SHIFT+ENTER/BACKSPACE keys, but they didn't work...Move eyepoint up/down is assigned to the SHIFT+ENTER/BACKSPACE keys -- but it still doesn't work. Any ideas? Thanks
  3. The AP works basically the same as the King Air AP. Flick the NAV/GPS switch to GPS under the heading display gauge. Then engage the AP (top-left button I think) and click NAV on the AP panel -- the plane will follow the course programmed into Flight Sim's GPS. The AP buttons can be hard to read -- but I think you can mouse over them to see what they do.The 1900D is a great prop to fly, hope you like it.
  4. >p.s. I also am having trouble with my PFD and Navigatioinal>Displays. Whenever I have it set up in the cold and dark>mode, The maps and pfd don't showup, but after completing both>the captain and FO chaecks, they remain that way. Once again,>any suggestions? The IRS alignment thing (#2) should fix this problem.
  5. Hey Christian:I don't fly the 747 very often -- but here's what I remember about it:1: You are probably too heavy to climb to your cruising altitude right from takeoff. In real life, most heavies "step climb" to some manageable flight level to burn off fuel, then climb to the cruising altitude once they are a little lighter. The FMS should help you out with the step climb stuff under the VNAV option (I think). 2: Sounds like you forgot to align the IRS. Basically, with your IRS alignment switch set to align (on the overhead panel), get your IRS position from the the FMS (I think it's on the INIT REF page). Plug that into the IRS alignment box (on the same screen I think), and then set your align switch (on the overhead panel) back to NAV. I'm not totally sure that that's the correct procedure, so you might have to fiddle with it a little.Hope that helps -- happy flying!
  6. If you change the model line in the .cfg file to have AS at the end of it (ex. WLAS), then you add stairs to the plane.
  7. I have the same sound card and haven't had any problems with it under Vista. How much RAM do you have?I'm not an ATI guy -- but I would start looking there first, have you tried any other drivers, maybe a version or two back? Also -- are you running FS9 with the update (released way back in '04)? You can download it here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en
  8. Hello all:Is it possible to increase the brightness of the blue taxiway edge lights (and/or the green centerline lighting)? I've downloaded Nick's Lightfix (v2) and tried the suggestions -- but the changes seem to only affect the runway lights. All help is appreciated.
  9. I disagree with the above post - I have a C2Duo with Vista Business and FS9 & FSX -- both perform BETTER in Vista than in XP. Frame rates are slightly lower than XP I think - but still in the mid 40s on all planes except PMDG's 744 (that one is in the 20s).FS runs better because Vista manages its memory better - keeping FS in the cache as frequently as possible. Ex. It took about 20-25 seconds to fire up FS9 in XP, but it takes < 5 seconds to get it running in Vista. I haven't had FS9 crash on me in Vista (I never it had it crash in XP either though.)If you have a choice - I would go with XP - just because there are fewer hassles. However, if you are going for the long run - Vista is the way to go (get x64 if your hardware can work with it.)System Specs:Vista Business (x86)Core2Duo @ 2.4 GHz2 GBs DDR2 667 RAMNVidia 7950 GT KO 512 MB RAMRunning Temp: 33-35 C, stock coolingPS. I have no issues with video drivers in Vista - but I only have the 7950...
  10. Hello all:I recently reinstalled FS9 -- and can't remember how to enable rain effects on the cockpit windshield (VC or regular). Does anyone remember how to do this? Thanks
  11. Does anyone have a link to Ryan's tips for FS9 (with NHancer)? I searched the forum - but didn't find anything good. Thanks
  12. After you reinstall the sim (to the new HDD) -- and any addons (ie PMDG) -- you can drag/drop the folders. Be sure to install ALL addons and patches before you drag/drop though. 3rd party sceneries, AFCADs and AI flight plans don't need to be installed -- most drag/drop nicely.
  13. Funny that PMDG sells that product in Euros even though "PMDG cannot sell this product to EU residents." :-lol
  14. Hey All:Does anyone have this addon -- if so -- how is it? Does it work in Windows Vista (w/ FS9)?Thanks,
  15. Nameless:As a systems engineer - I would concur with what others have said. There is virtually no gain by disabling the background internet services on a modern "FS quality" machine. One could argue that because you don't receive any system updates -- you are actually worse off.Furthermore, if you used N-Lite to actually remove the networking portions of the OS - it will be extremely difficult to just "add them back in" as others have suggested...
  16. Hello all:Isn't the 747-400 base product required before installing the 400F? The new website doesn't list the "Queen of the Skies" as an installation req. so I was just wondering...Thanks
  17. If it does - then PMDG has really changed since I began purchasing their products (way back in the days of Fly! and FS2k). But - we shall see.
  18. Hello all:First off - let me preface this message with this: This is not meant to flame PMDG or the developers/administrators that work hard to bring us flyers the best quality addons out there. However, this message is meant to draw some attention to PMDG's latest changes; changes that have been buried in other threads; changes that should be brought forward for an open discussion. Now - I've been away from FS for several months - but I finally have some time to get back "in the air" as summer rolls around. So, my first stop was (of course) the PMDG forum to check out the latest updates on the MD11 (and other projects.)When I arrived at the forum - I found two changes that merit an open discussion in the spirit of the PMDG I knew from a few months ago...:=== New pricing scheme ===First off, your new website looks great. However, I noticed that your prices are now listed in Euros. This was a bit surprising for several reasons. First, ya'll were based in the US last time I checked. Second, this capricious change doesn't seem to fit the spirit of PMDG. The change came "in the quiet of the night" -- and has yet to be discussed (at length) by PMDG.Don't get me wrong -- your products are worth every Euro/Dollar/Yen/Rupee we users pay. But, like it or not, the dollar is the "wold's currency" and should hold the same place at PMDG (and all developers for that matter.) Did this change in pricing reflect some organizational change at PMDG? Or was this pricing change simply meant to extract a little bit of extra cash from your user base?Of course I, along with many others I'm sure, will continue to buy your products at whatever price you charge. But, I will just cringe a little bit more as my Visa burns through your credit card processor.=== The MD-11 and FSX ===I must admit that I was a little surprised to see this announcement. Originally, ya'll announced that the MD-11 would be released as an FS9 product, with an optional (paid) upgrade to FSX. I understand that the new features in FS-X are exciting, and thus deserve to be showcased with the MD-11. However, it semes that the problem with the MD-11's release is the length of time it has remained in Alpha/Beta. This can only mean one thing: That the MD-11 will be PMDG's most anticipated (and arguably best) release ever. Unfortunately, this is not a problem for the users. This is a problem with the way PMDG announces upcoming releases. Perhaps ya'll should forgo announcing new products until a release date is almost "set in stone." This would prevent the release "surprise" that we are now experiencing with the MD-11... Just something to think about.------Overall, has my "image" of PMDG changed? No, ya'll still make the best products, while providing the best support and user forum of any developer. I know that when I purchase a PMDG product - the quality and detail will surpass even my highest expectations. Heck, the product will even come with a lengthy manual that will tell me how to do *everything.* (Whether or not I actually read that manual is always a question ;)) However, these recent "announcements" marks distinct changes for PMDG. Changes that, for me, have narrowed the gap (significantly) between PMDG and my #2 favorite payware developer.------That's all for now. Have a great summer -- happy flying!Edit: Typos
  19. Hello All:Small error on the website -- your prices are listed in pounds -- with the pound symbol instead of the $. Aren't all your prices in USD?Sorry if someone caught it before me ;)
  20. To my knowledge - there is no replacement for the default Lear -- you might be able to find an updated air file from the library -- but that's it.Eaglesoft makes some other biz jets -- and FeelThere has the Legacy, those (payware) aircraft might be worth checking out.
  21. Thanks -- maybe I'll try Jim's KATL files instead.
  22. Hello everyone:Not sure if this is the right forum -- so feel free to move it if I put it in the wrong place...Anyway, I've got a problem with runway 10 on my KATL AFCAD file. I downloaded it through Dakota Smith's KATL scenery available here in the library. FS can't see the ILS on runway 10 -- and therefore says "Visual runway 10...." in the ATIS. Runway 28 (and all the other runways) seem to be fine.I attached a few screenshots of RWY10 to this message... Is there something I should change in the AFCAD file to enable the ILS on this runway? Thanks in advance, all help is appreciated.
  23. Ok - thanks for the opinions guys...
  24. Carlos - do you own the PSS 757? If so - how do you like it? I am more interested in the 2D panels --- I've never really gotten into flying in the VC.Here's my system specs - I think it can handle it ;)Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4 GHzGeForce 7950 GT -- 512 MB RAM2 GB DDR2 667 RAMSeagate Baracuda SATA 3GB/s -- 320 GB HDDCreative SB AudigyXP Pro
  25. Hello everyone:Is there a PMDG/Level-D quality 757 out there for FS9 (payware or freeware)? I know Captain Sim has their 757 --- but, to my knowledge, it doesn't have a full 2D panel, FMC, etc? Thanks
