  1. Tell me about it! I was in my second term for my Industrial Electrician when the 800 @ 900 where released. I finally had to take my Hotas and lock it in the basement so I couldn't play. Hardest month and a half of my life!!:-lol
  2. Most certainly YES! When all else fails and you cannot figure out a problem by any other means, the ability to reach out and get ideas from another person is invaluable. I have on many occassions had to come here, hat in hand looking for assistance. Other times, I have jumped into the fray to assist those who are running out of ideas and hope. This forum's mere presence is an excellent tool as well. By searching through previous posts, you can quite often find your own solution,( something I should have done with my last problem:P .Let's keep it alive, it's one of the few things that keeps the flight simming community a "Community".
  3. Hey there fellow Canuck, what kind of router are you using? I'm sure that there are others who frequent this forum, that have the same router and might be able to point you in the proper direction!:D
  4. YOU ARE A GOD!!!:-lol I have been fighting with this for weeks. A couple of quick edits to the registry and good as new. I have Norton working full time now and just finished sorting out my router. Thanks again.:-beerchug
  5. The Dremel tool uses a collet to hold the bit. You would need a collet to fit the drill since they don't ship with that small of size. Also, look into the drill press attachment for it. Will save more than it's cost in headaches, drillbits and grief.
  6. Been there done that! I think that the variables between toner types affects the iron temperature and messes with your results. I tried three different laser printers an HP, Brother and I think the last one was a Canon. Couldn't get the toner to adhere consistently. Finally, broke down and made an exposure box with two 18" blacklights in it for doing photosensitive boards. Kicking myself now that I see how easy it is. Went a little overboard with the lighting though. Using MG Chemicals board, they recommend a five minute exposure. I get a beautiful trace at one minute ten seconds. At five minutes, I'm left with a few little green smudges where solder pads are supposed to be.Bottom line, take a look at buying premade plug and play boards, then figure out what the bottom of the line photoresist exposure kit will set you back. I figure that by making my own boards, I'll save at least $600-800.:-beerchug
  7. If you want to try drilling without a press, get lots of drill bits...lots and lots!!!:-lol
  8. It's not very hard to do, just tedious. I've just finished drilling about 21 circuits, all FSBus. I have a dremel mounted in a cheap hobby tool drill press, I think it cost about $30CDN for the press. After about twenty minutes, I have to take a break because my eyes are going crossed!! I put a small flourescent trouble light behind the drill press and above to light the board. Also, I have had the best success when I increase the speed of the drill to the point that the bit starts to oscilate slightly. As soon as the tip of the bit starts to make contact with the board, it hunts out the lowest spot on the solder pad and stops wobbling. So far I have done a comm, 2 keys, 2 display driver cards, fsled, fsad, and a whole wack of display boards.
  9. Have you checked the settings under Flights/ Multiplayer/ Settings to ensure that all three items there are checked? Also, can you see other aircraft on the SB TCAS? If they are not on the TCAS, there may be other problems afoot.
  10. Fired off an email to the creator of Servinfo a few days ago, but no reply so far. Anyone out there have any ideas...anyone?Thanks to Dave, I was able to update my SB server info, but I'm connecting blind. I have tried using Vatsim's Who's online, but Servinfo would be soooo much nicer.
  11. Many thanks Dave, I'll get in touch with the editor and see if I can work it out.
  12. Very curious, I just downloaded ServInfo and installed it on a computer in a different room and it works fine. Tried downloading a new copy to my FS computer and running that, on the off chance the download was bad, but no joy.Must be some setting that I'm forgetting about on the new computer. Can't update the squawkbox IPs or try to get online without this.Any ideas, anyone...?
  13. I've just gotten a new computer, however, I can't get Servinfo to work on it. I'm not running any firewall on the computer, however, I have a router with a firewall. Does anyone know the proper ports that Servinfo needs to use so that I can open them? Thanks,
  14. Well, it would seem my glowing report on the X-45 might have been premature! Today, I have suffered two major crashes, my computer, not aircraft. The culprit in both cases was the Saitek drivers. It would appear that they don't play nice with a hyperthreading machine. Until Saitek can come up with suitable drivers, it looks like I'll be parked on the ramp!;(
  15. Respectfully, I don't know what the heck you are talking about. I have been using my X-45 for about two years now on both XP Home and now XP Pro. I don't really know about using other peoples profiles and any problems with that, I make my own and they work flawlessly. As far as showing as a four axis/32 button controller, that is true. The real power of the X-45 is in the SST software which acts as a keyboard encoder to mimic keystrokes. Once your profile is created and saved, just two quick mouse clicks and it gets flashed to the onboard EEProm in the controller and you're flying! As I said earlier, works great here and wouldn't trade it for anything.P.S. Just went and checked that link you pointed out...it's almost three years old! Oops:-badteeth
  16. I use the X-45 and find it awesome. The only real problem I have is that the stick is a little stiff to move. I frequently take an old birthday candle and rub some of the wax along the centering disc which seems to relieve the problem for a while. I have also heard that some people take small zip ties and put them through the spring so that they can reduce that amount of centering force. Also, you will probably find that the rudder switch is not all that useful. I found an old set of CH gameport rudder pedals and hacked into the throttle unit, separated out the wires for the rudder and wired it up to the pedals. Works like a charm! Just no toe brakes, oh well can't have every thing. All in all, I give it two thumbs up for its cost, software and programmability.P.S. Thanks about the Canada Day thing.
  17. Hi All, Just got my new toy home and in the process of getting it setup for FS9. I've spent a couple of days tweaking and I'm still not satisfied with the display yet. Thought perhaps there might be someone out there who has the same card that might be willing to share his/her settings to help me get in the ballpark.Thanks,P4 3.0EASUS P4P800-SE1G PC32002x 80G SATA/Raid0ATI 9800 Pro 256MTTX 19" Flat MonitorSaitek X-45 Hotas
  18. I want a bomb bay too!!! Please, please, please...:-lol
  19. Mind you, I do have alot of respect for Mr. Dowson and all he has contributed to our hobby, however...I did have reason to email him awhile back concerning a typo in a readme file that caused me alot of grief. His reply to that email left me rather cold and I can understand how others may come away with a negative attitude. If anything negative can be said of computer communications, it would be the inability to judge how a written word should be interpreted. I came to believe that no malice was intended, but at the time, I thought him to be extremely rude. That said, I didn't bat an eye when FSUIPC went payware, the man deserves a payback for all he has done for us.Just my two cents
  20. Although I can understand your motives to release the SDK as a commercial venture, I am somewhat disheartened. It has been my wish to interface a homebuilt cockpit based around the the PMDG 737. However, with this latest development, it would seem that this will not be possible. I wish to create all the interfaces myself, including the electronic hardware, but without the necessary offsets, it will not work with your product.I could always shell out the money for PM, but then what use would I have for your product? An exterior model? If I truly wish to make it as real as it gets, what use do I have for exterior eye candy? It is unfortunate that a single user license would not be in the works for the homebuilder that does not have an unlimited budget.Respectfully,
  21. I too am patiently waiting. I enjoy flying the NG, but, if I can't use it as a base for my upcoming cockpit build, I may be forced to abandon it and shell out the big bucks for Project Magenta. This is not a course of action that I wish to do, however, if I want to have the level of functionality that I desire, then I shall.:(
  22. Hello All,Are these ghost keypresses affecting random inputs or is the same input that gets triggered? If it turns out to be the same input, it could be a "flaky" diode on the keycard allowing noise from an adjacent input to cause it to go high as well. A shorted trace or a little too much solder on the pad could also bridge the gap.Just thinking out loud...
  23. Right on!! Got the surfboard already loaded and ready to head out on safari!!:-lol
  24. Unfortunately, all of my programming skills would fit into a thimble, but I will definitely be watching this thread! It would be excellent to have the ability to program an overhead panel for the PMDG birds.
