  1. I've got my 7900 GTX's in SLi mode, and I've tried AFR, SFR, and using the SLi for 16x AA. So far, in FS 9 I get a big performance jump using AFR1 and AFR2 over SLi AA... In FSX however, the load on the GPU's seems to be less, and the laod on the CPU is more than FS9.
  2. FSX is CPU limited. I run dual 7900GTX's in SLi, (both GPU's set to render, not SLi AA) and when I run the Sli monitor that shows how much load each of the cards are under, it barely moves. With all sliders Maxd' I can get like 10-14 FPS max in dense areas. I know both cores are being used, cause I lose about 4FPS when I set the affinity to just one core. For other games (FarCry, FEAR, etc) I can run Maz settings, and still get over 80FPS in those games. My next upgrade will be dual 8800GTX's in quad SLi, and the new Quad Core Extreme. (Same price as the current core 2 extreme. Go figure?)
  3. Spent alot of time tweaking my video card settings to get everythign the way I wanted. I have mine setup to run in full 16x16 SLi, each card at 675MHz on the core and 1800MHz on the RAM. I use the new nVidia control panel.First off, I run dual monitors, so I need to disable the one to run in SLi mode. Engage SLi mode once that's done, and go to the "advanced 3D settings" applet. I have all my settings on maximum (set Anti-Aliasing to 16x SLi if you can afford the performance hit) and turn V-Sync off. I use my card's settings to override everything in FSX. (Anisotropic levels, etc.) I found that turning FSX anti-aliasing off and leaving it to the card gives a bit of a perf. increase. Now with all sliders max'd, and both cards running in full 16x16 SLi I can get a stable 30 FPS around there. Just wanted to share my thoughts! Also, checked my CPU useage, and both of my cores are being used at the same level. Read up on using only 1 core, so I tried that and actually lost about 10FPS that way...
  4. Exactly. Your TOTAL bandwidth is 32 pipelines. Trust me dude, I have the same board. You have 4 GPU's (2 per card.) 32/4=8 Each GPU gets 8 pipelines to work with, where as on a normal SLi setup, each GPU gets 16 to work with...
  5. Would be interesting to know. I'm jsut getting my feet wet in page file tweaks...
  6. I got Kingston Hyper-X low latency DDR2 800MHz gaming ram, designed espesially for my SLi chipset (nVidia 590) on my board. I'm running each 1GB stick in a seperate channel for full 800MHz dual channel RAM.Autogen is at 100%. BTW I did NOT use the registry, I used the menu option in advanced settings. Also, I'm running my video cards in FULL 16x16 SLi with SLi16x anti-aliasing.
  7. My mobo assigns equal workload to each processor, so I tried this knowing that, and as expected I actually got a decrease in performance...
  8. My machine is pretty much strictly FSX, so I can live with the risk. Just did it, picked up 7FPS on average. Simple as that.
  9. Just did this on my system, picked up about 7 FPS. Simple as that.
  10. Just set mine to System Cache, and WOW! I actually gained only 7-8 FPS, but it is SO much smoother now as far as texture loading is concerned. My system is pretty much strictly FSX anyways, so it will stay... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!:D Blue skies!
  11. Each PCI-E slot only has 16 pipelines available. Therefore, each GPU is gettingo nly 8 in quad SLi. If you have jsut the one card, each GPU is still only getting 8.
  12. Just finished my system this weekend for $2200 Canadian... Case and all...
  13. FYI to see the bear you need to have "show advanced animations" turned on...
  14. You can run Quad SLi, however you will have 2 GPU's each sharing 16 pipelines (each GPU only gets 8) where as with 2 GPU's total each would get 16 to itself. That is a bottleneck, and so far the technology isn't there for 32x32 quad SLi. But when it does become available, it will be the ultimate setup! :D
  15. I agree with Paul. I jsut built my new computer (only thing I skimped on was not getting the Core2 Extreme) and I built the whole system for $2200 Canadian. And that's including case, pwr supply, everything. It's not hard to find cheap computer parts, you jsut gotta know where to look. I'm happy I spent that much too, FS is worth it
  16. Hmmmmm... DX-10 specific cards? My cards are DX10 ready...
  17. oops! Just re-read your original post. You have the 7950 card, dual GPU. So you can't run SLi as that mobo doesn't support Quad SLi... You would gain alot of performance swapping out that card for 2 7900's in SLI as you'd have 16x16 pipelines to work with instead of just 16 with the one card...
  18. I just built my new system. Go SLI man, it pays. My dual 7900GTX's run in full 16x16SLi (I have the mobo one up from yours) each has a 675MHz core clock and 1800MHz on the RAM. Mind you ou have a faster processor, but video speed will make much more of a difference than higher CPU speed. Is your RAM the low Latency type? I got some Kingston HyperX low latency that's meant for the nForce 590 chipset on our boards. Dual channel DDR2 800MHz on it.I have EVERYTHING max'd out, and get about 20-75 FPS depending on altitude, etc.
  19. I have my FSX Configured with ALL settings at MAX. That's right, as real as it gets. (Even full AI traffic on roads, boats, etc. EVERYTHING!) My FPS average in the 15-20's at the worst of times.Having said that, I just last week built myself an "ultimate FS machine" with the sole purpose of running FSX on it. I'm glad I did, because words can't describe how stunning the sim is when viewed like that.
