  1. SH249 and 1960 area for me: wish I had time to learn to paint(and the willingness to spend the money on a good paint program) I'd whip up a repaint for at least my PDMG, CitationX and B200 hehehe
  2. Here are the links to the Corsair that won the Bravo Zulu award. This the link to the awards page from the avsim convention:http://www.avsim.com/pages/0905/bz_announc.../bz_awards.htmlThis is the download link here: http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=53725
  3. <? Did you try to restart the engines? With what? hehehe sorry could not resist ;-) No gas means no restarting unless he's got a ram/scramjet. :-)
  4. Oh yea, almost forgot...most of the great freeware packages are only made known to us by guys like you. :-) That bring attention to great little jewels we have in the avsim library. Thanks alot for the heads up.
  5. I think it is a good idea, to give praise where it is due. This package seems to be well planned and thought out. Some of the features you listed are only normally in payware. So to see something of this sophistication is a really good deal. I think I'll try it out just for the fun of it
  6. If anyone has already, can I get your first impressions? I will be buying it soon. But I have to wait for a week or so, because I already bought a ton of addons a few weeks ago. Does this addon buying madness every end ;)
  7. Sorry guys I'm a little happy about my home team going to the world series(and winning it ;-) )I was wondering if any of the talented repainters out there would do a Southwest based repaint that would include the Astros. Simular to the Southwest Nolan Ryan Express, but with more graphics. Anyway just a thought for any Houston based or Astro fan(s) repainters out there. :)
  8. I think even with a nice freeware addon like this one is; it is a little hard for some of us PDMG NG users to pull ourselves completely away to try another 737NG product. Pesonally I love coffee, but would start missing my FMC/CDU if there wasn't one in the Arjan Scheffel package, of equal stature. It would be great if this featured another aircraft type. I'd be all over it.
  9. Hey awesome video MJ!! I guess that is what I'm getting for Christmas! :-) Very smooth video...that is how flightsimming should be for everybody.
  10. This is the kind of info I've been looking for to help me decide to take a shot at that new EFIS of his that is in beta.
  11. >The only SimFlyer products I have seen, or seen reviewed,>have been repackaged default GPSs which are not in the same>league as RealityXP. That isn't to say they aren't good, as>the default GPS is a lot better than many people give it>credit for, but it does mean that annoyances like the>inability to enter flight plans directly (you have to do it>through the FS flight planner) and the never clearing "MSG">flag are still there.>>After comparing both, I went for the RXP gauges and am glad>that I did. I'm sure others will say the opposite. Horses for>courses and all that? :-)>>I don't remember hearing any complaints at all about SimFlyers>as a company.>>Cheers,>>Ian P.Hey thanks for the info!
  12. >There are free sample areas available but the full coverage>of an area is only provided if you buy the package. I have>found FSGenesis to have wonderful customer service and the>price for what you get is very reasonable, they give more than>you expect and earn a faithful following.actually thats not quite true, what you can download from here on avsim is the full package. It may not be the latest version of the that package but good enough to make you go out and buy the rest of the world.Of course like mentioned there is no support or free updates.
  13. >It's not freeware, but relatively inexpensive and worth every>penny.>>http://portal.fsgenesis.net/>>>The US portions 38.X are free here on avsim, you have to do some research and a lot of it is in smaller portions, but about 3 are in nice big chunks like the southwestern US etc. The rest of the world I believe you have to buy.
  14. So is it on the same playing field as the Reality XP stuff?I'm asking becaues until the news update, I didn't even know the SimFlyer stuff existed; since most 3rd party gauge discussions here have been about RXP. I thought they were the only player, since the users/buyers were not mentioning SimFlyer products(I could have missed some topics). I generally like to read all the discussions about a product or company good and bad and make my decision based on all the composite info about the subject.
  15. The reason I ask is I've seen the news item on the avsim front page for the GLX-OPv1 EFISai. It looks promising, but I've really never read any in depth discussions on their products here on the user forums. If it is a reputable company; I'll break my own rule and be one of the first to try it out. I've got a lot of GA aircraft that wouldn't mind a little BLING (aviation translation = glass in the cockpit).you can take a look at the gauge here http://www.simflyer.net/shop/opefis.html
  16. >that can indeed infect something that small.LOL!!!!! now that is funny!:-laugh1hehe I know it is either a typo or wrong word used but still amusing
  17. >I always prefer the RNAV approach because they usually mirror>the ILS approach very closely.>>A lot of VOR approaches will be "Circle to Land". That's an>extremely useful technique to learn, especially if you fly GA>sized aircraft.>>Also remember just because you are flying a RNAV or VOR>approach, you can still use the ILS on final for the landing. What are the specific differences between RNAV and ILS? I remember reading that RNAV is really about precision, but then again so is the ILS right? Or does it have something to do with CATIII landings, which I don't think every airport supports? Thanks
  18. >Each has its charms.>Competition is good for consumers, it increases the quality>while keeping the price down.>>Noone forces you to buy them all, if you do so it's your>choice and yours alone.>>Or are you trying (like someone else did a while ago) to>create some agency where addon developers have to apply for>permission to create addons on pain of not being allowed to>publish them?>Sort of GosPlan (the old Soviet economic planning agency),>complete with 5 year plans?I don't think that is where he is coming from on this; he would like to see other birds that have not been addressed as well as the B737 has been. Personally so would I, but since I have the PDMG-NG series I see no need for ME personally to add any other 737's to my hanger deck. unless they are the older 737-300-500 class and only if they are done at the LDS-PDMG level of expertise.
  19. >What is it with the 737 that makes it so fascinating to our>group?>While its a nice airplane, its got to be the most overdone and>tired subject for the freeware and payware crowds by a long>shot. >>Eric>>I think, its because it is such a slippery bird on approach...LOL. Now seriously, because it is so versatile; and can get into a lot of airports that the big boys can't get into(unless a madman like me is flying them ;-) ). Also almost every airline in the world flys them. They are good for the 200 mile or less flights as well as the regional-to-national coast to coast flights. For a little bird there is a lot of power. This is definately not an underpowered bird. Lastly, most of us have had to fly rather economically...and these birds are probably what most of us have flown on at least 75% of the time. Also the branding, a Boeing 737 is like the brand name coke or ford, mercedes etc.
  20. >>>I am one of the people that dont get the crisp gauges and>I have an X800 so I doubt its my graphics card. Could you guys>reccomend a decently priced LCD so I can get the crisp>gauges?>>ThanksI'm using a HP LCD 2035 20inch that does 1600x1200 natively. I have it hooked up to my X800XL via DVI for a very crisp bright picture.
  21. I think the jaggies are from the system this is running on, not have AA/AF turned on in hardware
  22. >Howdie Folks,>>This thread really caught my eye and is developing into a>discussion that many readers will be interested in. To that>end i have posted a a short news story and link to it on the>frontpage. >>keep the suggestions coming!!>>Rgds>Aidi >http://www.avsim.com/pages/0100/avsim_sig.jpgThats a great idea, these are the type of discussions I look foward to at avsim forums! :)As for me if it is commercial, I've created my own little hops (for those I only have 45 minute moments) KGLS-in my FSD 337 Skymaster to - KIAH this is my home work airport and from there to various little routes KIAH-KDFW-KELP-KAUS-KIAH. GA is whatever little town city or lake I spy out on the FSNav moving map. For long hauls I'm waiting till I get the LevelD 767. I fly a few long hauls in the Overland's MD-11 in FedEx colors but, after geting the PMDG NG I'm spoilt (is that a word :-eek) by the FMC, not so much the autopiloting; but researching and planning the flight; places to land for fuel, weather etc. I usually hand fly all SID and STARs myself and leave the cruise to autopilot if it is a long haul.
  23. >Landings with TrackIR from the virtual cockpit feel much more>real than a 2D panel landing, here's a video I did today>landing in Miami:>>http://cgi-bin.simradar.com/video_delivery.../miami_land.asxWhat did you use to capture the video? was it with a hardware video capture card or Fraps?
  24. >Randy Smith?> Hey man, I went to your school a few moons ago, learning>well control :). (Sorry, I could not resist! :) ). Anyway, I>myself am not part of the FMS demanding folk, as I like to fly>the plane, not the plane fly me :). >>I'll eventually get an FMS and learn the system, but I'd>rather fly the way it used to be... :) I really see no point>in too much automation on the sim, as the exciting part is the>diffculty of flying manually ( in my view). There is no>feeling like hand-flying a Departure procedure or an arrival>or approach properly! I guess some people aren't capable or>willing to fly the plane (no matter how stable and easy it>is), so the FMS makes everything so much easier and makes them>feel good at how precise the fligth went, I assume. I have no>problem with this, but it is just not my cup of tea. If I were>to start ace-ing every flight, then I may just give up the>sim and try another hobby... ;-)>>You might find it strange, but this is how Ilike my simming>:)>>regards,>>Macs Actually I use to think this too about FMS folks and just FMS period. But after buying the PDMG 737NG, I discovered the joys of planning my flight via FSNAV and routefinder; then programming my flight plan manually into the FMS etc. It is a lot of fun, I could not believe it. I do still fly the departures myself until I'm at cruise altitude and the decents and stars myself. I just hit VNAV and LNAV without the autopilot on and fly the needles until cruise then hit the autopilot. It's a lot of fun and I'm still a hand flyer at heart but I've learn to love the FMS too.
  25. >I haven't noticed the JL2, but the 337 certainly has come up>on the Reality XP forums at www.simforums.com>>Their webstite has 3 refits for the 337 in the library as>well.>>http://www.reality-xp.com/>>Tony>=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]Thanks for the info!
