  2. Jimmy,Asus motherboard, so it's very good quality. AC97 onboard sound so once again, good quality even though it uses some resources. Omega soundcard, I'm not familiar with so I can't comment on it's capabilities. Did you go to the 'settings' sections of FS9 and reduce the sound to 'low'?The connecting cables from the soundcard to your external amplifier was what I was referring to when I said 'patch cords'. Are you connecting the external soundcard to an amplifier? If so, just make sure that the ends of the connecting cords are free of dirt and humidity. It's probably not the cause but it's worth checking. Try wiggling the connectors too and see if you get any crackling. Other than that, I'd fly a few different aircraft.....even default aircraft to see if it is caused by corruption of the sound files. Try these suggestions and repost. Another aspect you might try is disconnecting the external soundcard and re-enabling the AC97 onboard sound (re-enable by going into th BIOS of the motherboard). The drivers are freely available at http://www.asus.com/. This is just to ascertain whether the problem is with your external card or a problem with the sound files.Jon
  3. tubular (might be nice if you signed with your first name),This has every possibility of not helping but start by reducing the 'sound' setting in FS9 to 'LOW quality'. I'm not attempting to be trite when I say that you have not specified what brand or vintage you sound card is but me and other respondents have never considered 'clairvoyance' to be our strongest suit. I had your problem happen to me a few years ago, so I share your pain. Even though it may not help, It's another measure I recommend: I removed all of my 'patch cords' from the soundcard and amplifier, cleaned them and sprayed them with the ubiquitious DeWateringFluid, DWF (WD40..here......Australia). This did reduce the problem. One other thing I suggest: Does this happen only with a specific aircraft? Often, the sound files can be corrupt. Try a few different aircraft with different sound files. A few 'freeware' aircraft I used to fly exhibited this peculiarity and the problem is easily fixed by using the default sound files for the aircraft type.Jon
  4. I will be posting this question at FSUIPC Forums as well but I'd appreciate some 'hands on' advice from users of the full version of FSUIPC. My intention is to purchase the full version this coming week, purely, in an attempt to stabilise the inputs of my joystick (Logitech Extreme 3D Pro) to FS9 which, I understand, has many shortcomings in this area. Bottom Line: Does FSUIPC dispell the necessity of tedious recalibration of the previously mentioned joystick inputs? It almost drives me 'spare'. I absolutely concede that there are better input devices out there but this is the one I have and in other areas (viz: Combat Flight Sims) it is more than adequate. FS9, not so. Your advice will be much appreciated, as well as any additional advice re: Joystick Calibration.Jon
  5. I love this ATR 72 500. Yes it can be easy to fly, yes, there is a heap of buttons to push and switches to set and yes, to everything positive that has been said about it. At the risk of sounding a little unctious and gushy, I surmise that the ATR is probably the closest thing I own to the real aircraft. On my very limited income it is a pleasure to have purchased an FS9 add on that represents (imho) excellent value. Next week, the Maddog. I hope it's as rewarding an experience as the ATR.Jon
  6. Elprim,I'll be pleased to keep you posted on my progress but just as a matter of interest, I do all my flying with a single 19 inch monitor and not a very good one, at that (Mitsubishi Diamond View). My computer, which was a bit of a 'Beast' three years ago when I first built it, would'nt be consider much more than low end these days.SPECS:Asus P4P 800E-Deluxe MB2x512 mb sticks GEIL PC5000 RamNvidia Geforce fx5900xt OC'd to the max.2.8ghz Northwood core P4 OC'd to 3.35 ghz (totally stable for 3 years)2x WD 80gig PATA HDD's2x Maxtor 80gig SATA HDD's1x SoundBlaster Live Value soundcard.1x Antec Truepower 500 watt PSU1x Polo 735 Heatsink and fan.The weakest performer is the GPU but it's adequate. I don't know what type of system you have but in all probability it would be better than my old clunker and my FS experience is great! Multiple large monitors would be wonderful and I would like to have them but I don't consider them a necessity for my level of capability. With the ATR (and this is just an assumption as I'm new to it, too) scouring the Manual is mandatory, otherwise you may just as well fly one of the default aircraft or one of the better recognised freeware offerings viz: Meljet, IFDG, Posky. The ATR 72-500 I believe, will be a challenge, both in the learning and mastering of the aircraft. That's how I get my 'kicks'.Jon
  7. Chris,Yup, the manual is a doozy. 481 pages to be precise. I'll only be printing what I consider the most important pages BUT I will be reading all of it (a number of times, I suspect). It appears to be somewhat of a 'walkthrough' but it's going to take some time for me to understand the aircrafts intricacies. I owned the PMDG 747-400 for a week before I understood the FMC operation, although, that was because it was my first payware aircraft. Since then I've acquired the PMDG 737 800/900 and the LvlD 767. All great to fly but prop driven aircraft are a completely new experience. I point out too, that since buying these payware aircraft, they have taught me so much more about modern civil aviation. I have considerable respect for the people that fly these aircraft in the real world. Anyway, I'll keep you posted as to how I'm progressing.Jon
  8. Well, I could'nt resist. I had a look at all of the aircraft it is my intention to purchase and was lamenting (a bit) that I could not extend my finances at this time to make my first aircraft the ATR 72-500. Then I came to a pleasant realisation that, instead of purchasing in the dreaded Euros, the price was in $US. BONUS! We Australians are getting A$0.84 cents/$US, so hang it all! My system is now sporting a shiny new ATR 72-500 in the FS9 stable. The Kingair, which I am just as enthusiastic about, will be next. Woo Hoo! Crank-up the printer. I'm on a new learning curve. I have not even tried to start this sucker yet. I don't want to break anything.Jon
  9. Ok, here's the plan. Today I'm buying the Aeroworx B200 Kingair. Thanks, Bob for pointing me at it. Good price too. Thence onward to next payday (pensioner) for the ATR. It will be a month down the track when I get the Maddog and then the B727. This combination should give me an excellent choice of aircraft (plus my existing PMDG and LvlD767) for many different FS scenarios. I thank all respondents for their guidance and I have bookmarked all of the webpages so I can keep my eye on them for future developments. I do hope the A320 will come to market as good as the pre-release marketing claims. I'll be straight into it after a few reviews have surfaced. Thank you, everyone.Jon
  10. Well, now I've done it! This is going to be another MUST HAVE! I've always liked the A320 and have flown in the aircraft as a passenger on a number of occasions. The screenshots are excellent and the videos are very good. I have bookmarked the site and will keep a weather eye on it for a release date. Wish they'd hurry up:-) Just an aside: Here we have a what? $14 million dollar aircraft. You'd think they could be a bit more creative with the instrument panels. A little walnut burr veneer, perhaps (ala Jaguar). At least some dangly dice hanging fom the overhead. Thanks, Jeff.Jon
  11. Oh yes, very nice, too! I have fs2crew for my PMDG products and I agree that the sim takes on a new level of realism when using this program. I just gotta have this ATR. Thanks for your recommendation.Jon
  12. Is there anything comparable to the PMDG and LvlD767 products that members would recommend for my next purchase? I was leaning towards a 707 or 727 but that was only an embryonic thought. Anything with a comparable level of sophistication to the afforementioned products would be fine, even large turboprops.Jon
  13. I'm about to buy a much larger HDD which will necessitate the re-installation of fs9 and my beloved asv6. I purchased when the program was available through Flight1 (wrapper). I still have all the info ie: Proof of Purchase etc. What will the re-activation procedure be now, since the inception of your dedicated website?Jon
  14. I'm just getting back into fs9 with a vengeance. I enjoy it more every day. I've been reading posts about various Joystick problems but I was wonder ing if there have been any revelations lately as to why the calibration of joysticks, in general, seem to drift so markedly. I will fly a perfect flight, then reload to fly the same flight, without changing anything and my throttle slider is at 45% when it should be around 20% or the rudder has decided to take on a mind of its own. Changing USB ports has a very good effect to bring things back into line but has anything definitive been discovered lately as to why this happens?Jon
  15. Thanks very much, Lefteris for this very simple solution. I'll need to remember this when I replace my aging 5900xt. Assuming, of course, that I'll still be able to locate an AGP 8x ATI card.Jon
  16. The following is not a huge problem but it's annoying, nonetheless. Bottom Line, sometimes I get what I would describe as a 'ghost panel' when I put the mouse cursor in certain areas of the 747-400 panel ie: I might be tooling about on the MCP and half the screen reveals the OHD panel. Moving the cursor to another area corrects this immediately but it peeves me. Is it a setting or summat? Or is it my old 5900XT feeling the strain? It happens in the LD767 as well but not in the 737-800, curiously. Anyone?Jon
  17. I have always wondered about these and because I approach fs9 with a renewed enthusiam after a long layoff, my purpose is to start tweaking and replacing as much of the default scenery as I am able. Bottom line: I don't have any clue where to start (except the Avsim fs9 file library) and I would like to be pointed in the right direction by a kind soul/s, here in the forums. I need to know everything from how to install .afcad files or whatever you do with them and well....everything. Any help will be appreciated.Jon
  18. Steve and everyone,Too cool. I now have all the 'moving' bits working where they should and on schedule. Uuumm.....this is a little embarrassing to admit but the problem was not fs9 related or the PMDG 737. Y'see, I have 3 installations of fs9 on three of my four hdd's. I was flying the 737 in the configuration I use for FS2Crew but I was just doing a normal flight without using FS2Crew (DOH!!). It all came to me in a ruddy blush. Everything works perfectly on the other installations. BTW, during my journey through the problem I had flown some circuits in the default M$737 (eeuww). When you do that you gain a renewed appreciation of the PMDG offerings. Thanks again for all your help.Jon Shearer
  19. Thanks Rob,I've tried everything suggested so far and here's what I've found. I'll need to fly a few more routes until I'm absolutely certain but here it is: Not arming the spoilers and arming the autobrakes only, the spoilers deployed upon selecting reverse thrust so I was quite content with that BUT! (and this is what I have to make certain of). Arming the autobrakes and THEN arming the spoilers, it all worked. I have been doing it in reverse. Why it would make a difference has got me beat, so a few more hours should sort it. Thanks everyone for your help.Jon Shearer
  20. Here.......me......also. I have fs9 on installations on three of my 4 hdd's and tried all of 'em. Same problem, different hdd. They'll have it fixed before too long, I'm sure. The rww feature of fs9 has been about the most reliable feature in the past. Don't you miss it when it's not there?Jon Shearer
  21. Thanks for your responses. I'll give it a bash and let you know. Regarding the 'throttles must be exactly at idle'. Maybe this is the main bugbear. I'm assuming you refer to the throttle panel in the 737 or do you mean the actual joystick slider. Y'see, the reason I ask is because my joystick cannot calibrate the throttle slider to absolute zero. It's a Logitech extreme 3d pro and I'm using it without the Logitech software installed because it caused too many conflicts. I'm just using the bog standard drivers. Yes! to your next recommendation that I buy a better joystick but us old pensioners cannot afford such luxuries. There's around another $1000 I want to spend on this hobby but food takes precedence. Again, thanks for your response and I'll let you know how it goes.Jon Shearer
  22. I'm almost convinced I'm doing everything correctly ie: not using shift+ / to arm the spoilers but the actual Throttle Panel. I can land fine but no joy on the spoilers. They don't move. I always start a flight with the Cessna, shut it down then select the 737-800 so as to avoid some of the numerous quirks of fs9. Could this be the root of the problem?Jon Shearer
  23. I must obtain a higher proficiency before attempting these things. I realise I can 'dust off' the aircraft after buying the real estate but I have not, as yet, attempted any of the failure scenarios or, for that matter, any 'circle to land' approaches. Not because I'm fwightened, more wishing to understand the complexities, theories and practicalities of these birds. Another aspect is observing the realities of such airports and only wishing to attempt landings at ie: SION in an aircraft capable of such a practice. I recall 757's being the largest aircraft accepted. I agree that flying around Bolivia is very interesting and even with the default terrain, quite breathtaking. I wish to become more adept at pilotage so that Bolivia does'nt become Oblivia, in my case. I will take up your kind offer and PM you for your list of difficult and dangerous approaches. Thanks to everyone for your valuable responses.Jon
  24. Thank you for your help. See, here's me assuming that an airport designated 'international' would accept 747's. Just like me to choose one of the highest airports in the world to take off from. I've actually been searching the net to find a page I accessed a year or so ago which listed the largest aircraft acceptable by each airport. I have not found it yet. My next challenge will be an ILS approach into SION in my 737. That'll be fun.Jon
  25. This is a small annoyance that I'm certain is fixable and a fault of my own and not the 747-400 programming. I have done most of my takeoff's and landings at near sea-level so this has not been a problem before but I'm attempting a journey from La Paz (sllp 13,200ft) to Rio (sbgl). I also start with a c&d cockpit (previously established at sea-level and imported). Bottom line: After a few minutes I get a 'Cabin Altitude' warning and alarm. I can shut the alarm off ok but the red 'Cabin Altitude' sign remains and is not cancellable via the eicas. I've porked about with the settings on the overhead but cannot get rid of it. I even read the instruction manual.I suppose this poses a couple of questions:1) How do I correct this?2) Will this affect my 'V' speeds? I'm certainly using all the runway to achieve V2.JonAdded: I start the flight by using the default Cessna 172, shutting everything down, except avionics, then reselecting my 747-400 once inide the program.
