SDK in FSX-SE missing files
I tried a forum search for this topic but found nothing newer than 2007 and none that answered my question. When using ADE to edit airports it is necessary to change the xml file to bgl. This requires SDK which came as part of FSX and does not seem to be available without. FSX-SE has an SDK file but is missing the files "shp2vec" and BGLComp.XSD. Have these files become available elsewhere for download? I only have FSX-SE installed. Lou

Purchasing the 737NJ for FS9
I have also been trying to find a copy of PMDG B737-800/900 for FS4. I have the downloaded B600/700. I know this is the PMDG forum but if the aircraft are no longer avaible from them, is there another 737-900 available in United Air's new colours?

Hardware to Donate
Hi: If you are still looking for someone to take the unit off your hands, my grandson is a member of 66 Challenger Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets. Their computers are even older than mine and I am sure they would appreciate receiving a better one. Whenever my grandson is over to the house he spends a good deal of time flying my flight sim. (FS 2004).

The AVSIM 2012 Demographic Survey
Love the last question. Haven't had spotted dick for several years. Must discuss this with my wife. With regards to the type of flying (long distance, local, etc.) more than one answer should be available. I fly as the mood hits. Local sightseeing if I am in a hurry, long distance passenger or freight if I plan on spending time at the controls. I have AES at some airports and enjoy the complete immersion when time permits.

FS Nav
Sorry. I posted this topic twice. Please disregard or remove this one. It is also posted as FSNav. That is the one I am following.

FS Nav
Will have a look at FlightSim Commander. I just thought there have been no updates to FSNav, to the best of my knowledge. I also find it time comsuming to have it remake the entire database every time I add a new airport. Maybe there is a short cut here I don't know about.

FS Nav
I have used a program called FS Navigator for several years. I use it on a second monitor for navigating to various airports and lining up with runways, with or withhout ILS. Works great but is outdated. Is there a similar program available?

NEW POLL - HC or not?
No am I hardcore? No. I do like to get on the Flight sim sites daily to see what is new and I usually get in a flight or two each day but to me hardcore would include following all the check-lists, using charts, etc. I said I usually fly Military. This is not necesarily true. I probably fly the big jets just as much. Usually to or from places I have visited or vacationed at. I have some purchased aircraft and will go through all the check lists, etc. but I also have some easy to fly free-bees that I like to get into just for fun. I use Active sky and Ground Environment as well as AES just to add some sort of realism on occasion. I have done a few of my own AI flight plans (succesfully). I hope to play around some more now that I am mostly retired.

News Page FS9/FSX
I am using FS9 and have no intention of moving to FSX. I see by the many downloads available daily that I am not the only one. To save me and others time and effort, why not show, on the reviews adn news page, which copy of FS that particular article is for. I really do not need to open a review or news article that is solely for FSX and does not apply to me. Just a thought. Keep up the good work.

doc files
Thank you OPA. Not only for your quick reply but, also for your timely question. I do not use Microsoft Word. When clicking on the file it automatically opens in Wordpad. I use Word Perfect 8. Your question turned on the dim bulb in my cockpit (the area between my ears) :( and I did a WP to MW conversion et, voila, I have the written word and pictures (graphics). Just as an aside: I have enjoyed your work immensely over the past few years. Thank you for your great service to the Flight Sim Community. :( Lou

doc files
This may need to be addressed elsewhere but I have been unable to find it. When I try to open a .doc file that comes with a download I get the error message "Unable to load graphics conversion filter. Continue with document conversion?" This means I get the written part but not the illustration. Is there a Windows setting I need to know about. Sorry, but I am not very computer literate.Lou

FS9 Air Traffic Control
Hello and Thanks to all who answered. I will try your suggestions. I have wondered about Radar Contact and if it was worth purchasing. I am now retired and do not have a company pension so rely on the Gov of Canada to supply my money and have to budget carefully. At the same time I now have more time to play with and learn the ins and outs of FS9. A new computer and FSX are not on the radar at this time. Lou

FS9 Air Traffic Control
Hello: This may already be discussed somewhere but my search did not turn up anything. In FS9, using the built-in air traffic control, I am sometimes within five minutes of an airport before I can contact it. It is really frustrating, especially if there are a lot of smaller fields around that show up first. Is there a way to determine what runway you will be directed to (VFR) before you get on the glidescope and finally manage to contact the tower? Also, can you change the runway FS9 uses. eg: Thunder Bay, ON - In real life the winds are normally out of the west but FS9 insists we land and take off on rwy 7. I would also like to find a way to have AI traffic landing use a different runway than the traffic taking off. I have aircraft disappearing because the wait is too long.Just thought I'd ask.Lou

Fs9 Load Time
Thank you all for your help. I have removed some aircraft to a folder I named Hanger on my desk top. This did help. Unfortunately, there are always more to download and try out, so it's an ongoing battle to reduce my Aircraft folder. :( My next step is to go over my scenery addons. I did see a download on Avsim for a complete ez-scenery or other texture files and instructions how to get rid of duplicate texture files. I am sure I downloaded this but cannot find it on my computer.I have also downloaded the Flight Sim Manager and am currently trying to learn how to use it.Again, I thank you all for your input.Capt Lou

Just Flight Discount
I trust this section is the same as Letters to the Editor in the newspapers. I don't know where else to post this observation.I was checking out the Just Flight discount with the intention of purchasing some addons. Looking at their products however, I found them to be grossly overpriced. eg: FS9 - $45, FSX deluxe $60. FS9 is available locally for $30 and FSX Deluxe is priced at $40. What other items are they overcharging on? That 15% discount doesn't seem to mean much.CaptLou

Fs9 Load Time
Thanks people for your quick responses. I will try them out and let you know what happens. ThrottleUp's mention of micro-light is close to the truth. I just sold my real Ultra-light. Had been flying it for about 23 years. Lazair Series iii. Would love to see some one make one for use in FS9.

Fs9 Load Time
Hi All: It takes my computer over 5 minutes to load FS9. (I now have a piano type keyboard next to my computer and am learning how to play it while waiting). :( OK, I probably have too many aircraft and paints and should cut back but I always worry that I'll take out something used by another plane. Looking at my FS9 folder, I find there are 23 scenery cfg files of various types. A new one every time I changed something. eg: Scenery_cfg_before_CH2Beaver_was_installed.cfg. Several after various changes to the AES cfg files. Some of these appear to be usable ie: They have the little blue notebook icon. Others are text files. eg: Scenery_cfg-before_Cloud9_Amsterdam_1-8-2006_1538.txt. Do I need all of these or is only the latest required? Could this be a cause for slow loading? Also, would things speed up if I deleted various aircraft textures and kept only those I usually fly? I normally fly in North & Central America (including Caribbean) and Europe and have disabled the rest of the world in the setting menu.Flight Sim 9.1.0.40901.01Windows XP Home Edition V5.1.2600 SP3 Build 2600NVIDIA GeForce 6600CT 128MBAMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.21 GHz, 1.00GB of RAMYour help would be appreciated. :( Merry Christmas and the best of the season to all. Product Category Survey
For the past several days there has been a Product Category Survey on the news page. After completing the survey, you can send an E-mail to Pamela Nelson to enter a contest for a free hat or t-shirt. The message box comes up automatically pre-addressed. My message has been returned as undeliverable. Has anyone else had this problem? Maybe the item should be removed from the News Page.CaptLou

Take-off speed/turning on ground
Hi: Sorry about the ctrl-e-2, I meant Shift+e+2. I haven't tried your fixes yet. Will attempt them today as we are snowed in. Over 3 feet of snow in the last 4 days.I have Active Sky which sets the wind direction. Is there a way to set it without the use of Active Sky? Sorry to be a bother but I am just learning this stuff. Will retire in about 4 months and hope to spend more time then.

Take-off speed/turning on ground
Hi: Two separate questions: May have been answered previously but its been a while since I checked in.1. My aircraft seem to be taking a long time to get up to t/o speed. Even the Cessna 185 requires almost the full runway. On the heavies I have adjusted the weight, but even so I am almost at the end of any runway before lift off. Watching at the local (Thunder Bay, ON) airport I find that the FS aircraft take almost twice as much runway.2. Making turns while taxiing with some models is frustrating. They just do not turn fast enough. I wind up going off the runway to make a wide turn to line up, or I miss the taxiway and cut across the grass. Again, real aircraft appear to turn on a dime. (This seems to be mostly Posky 737 series.3. Ok, I said two questions but it just occurred to me that I have a third one. Many add-on aircraft use ctrl-e-2 for opening second doors. When I try this, the first door (ctrl-e) closes and the aircraft panel pops up on my screen.General Info: Until recently I owned and flew a Lazair Ultralight in real life. Would love to see an SF9 version to fly on my computer.Regards: Lou

TTools Decompile
Thanks Tom.Found several planes with a slight variance in the title name. Re-nameing the texture files seems to work.Guess an old dog can still learn a few new tricks. My next attempts will be at making scenery. I want to put scenery in the area near Thunder Bay, ON were I have my camp. I can land on the lake but there are no camps there. Hope to change that.Best regards: Lou

TTools Decompile
Hi Mike:Thanks for the come-back. I planted a file on the desktop called Decom and it worked great. Now all I have to do is find out why my ai 737's have lost their paint. The ATC still calls them by name. (World Airlines, etc.) Smaller planes still look ok.Regards, Lou

TTools Decompile
Hello Folks:New at this. Flying a real plane is easier but more costly when things go wrong. Trying to find out why my AI 737-400 suddenly have no paint.Tried to decompile the .bgl files for last flight plans but get an error message "unable to create file C:Documents and SettingsOwnerDesktopWestOKAirports". I have no idea what that means. Do not recall ever seeing such a file. Hope some-one can help with either the lost paints or/and the error.
