  1. There is a mistake in my original post- There are 25 knot gusts reported in Opus weather but no gusts in flight or reported in atis in sim.
  2. In Prepar3d 1.4 the surface wind setting shows 10 gusting 25 after opus weather download but on awos in sim there are no gusts mentioned and no gusts felt in flight, nor are there any gusts mentioned in Opus weather reports. Does anyone have similar problem or solution. Thanks, Eric
  3. I have not had time to fly any but maybe I can get in some time tonight. Also, if you Google "windows 7 core parking" there is a ton of info on what turns out to be an old topic. I never heard of core parking until a few days ago. I was sleepy last night searching this stuff and gave up but noticed one post that said Microsoft supposedly issued a fix also. Eric
  4. i seem to have attracted some copyright warnings from avsim but I was trying to help by sharing something that I thought helped with the sim. If I stepped on any toes I apologize. I won't post anymore about this topic. i didn't realize sharing information could be such a problem eric
  5. After the very complete storeytrain explanation of why the tweak doesn't work I will have to to do some more testing and report back. Whatever was happening after the tweak p3d ran better than it ever has through several flights. I'll try some more. Eric.
  6. Thought I should post this in general forum also. I came across this fix for windows 7 microstutters because of parking of cores. prepar 3d 1.4 is now running so smooth that 30 fps looks as good as 60. It's amazing. I''ve lived with microstutters for years and now they're gone. This is a quick and easy fix. I'm running p3d in windowed mode because I hate atc in fullscreen, opusfsx cameras, nvidia inspector- triple buffering, vsync tear control-adaptive, vsync-3d app control. Also using the ForceWindowedVSync=1. This regedit seems to solve microstutters and increase stability and fps in general. definitely worth a try! i7 2600k @ 4.5 ghz, gtx 480 2gb http://ultimatecompu....php?f=7&t=3644 eric

  8. Thanks for quick reply. I'll try all suggestions and let you no how it works Site effects sound interesting. It will take me few days to figure out and get the feel of new settings. Eric
  9. My questions: Is there a way of getting more variable turbulence with dhm and bump aircraft. I am getting either all or nothing in flight. And is there a way to get more dramatic up and down movement of aircraft. I fly RW cherokee 140 east of blue ridge mountains. On northwest wind days it can be throttle wide open to maintain altitude and then throttle all the way back trying to stay down and below maneuvering speed. The Opus turbulence as I have setup now already is the most challenging I've seen for prepar3d/fsx, I like it! With more dramatic thermals/air wave turbulence it would be RW challenging and spot on. I recently bought opusfsx and have the most recent upgrade. I'm still working on getting everything set up properly, but so far I'm loving the more real simulation of weather especially low overcast for IFR practice. I also got the live camera working and dhm and using prpepar3d v1.4 in windowed mode. It's great but takes some time to get settings right for your computer/sim. In a nutshell, I can set the view, eyepoint the way I want and keep it that way throughout the flight, fly IFR all the way without ducking behind panel for blind view because low overcast effect keeps me in the clouds. Amazing! Eric
  10. Thanks for the info. It was the usb port. Switched to usb 2 and works perfectly with ch. I guess I will keep on using ch control manager. I am used to it and has served me well over the years. I believe the throttle quad is going to be a much appreciated piece of hardware. Eric
  11. I've used ch yoke and pedals for years. Now have windows 7 and they still are going strong. I calibrate with ch control manager. Now I have ch throttle quad. It is recognized in windows and works there. When I re-install ch control manager the quad shows on the cm list but doesn't function at all in cm test calibrate, in windows, or fsx. I've tried ch cm rescan many times. If anybody knows how to make this work I am really anxious to try this thing out.Eric
  12. I do have both service packs for the sartoga.
  13. I do have sp1 adn sp2 for FSX. All other add-ons work: Carenado, Realair, A2A all control surfaces work viewed from inside VC,
  14. I have advance animations checked. I realized yesterday that the stabilator moves when viewed externally, but when in VC it does not. Looking out at it from VC during take-off checklist is the only time I look at it. I have not modified the aircraft. The airplane flies well, everything else works great. I have several Carenado planes and this is the only one with a control surface problem. Thanks for replies so far.
  15. I deleted the Saratoga from FSX, downloaded the file again from Carenado, and reinstalled in FSX. The problem still exists, the stabilator does not move. I guess it's a minor anoyance anyway, but the advertising says it moves, it really ought to move. Thanks for any solutions.
  16. carenado saratoga stabilator does not move. is there any way to fix?thanks in advance
  17. Is there any way or hope of a way to correct the stall spin characteristics of all the Commander. It's not a huge problem because normal flying tends for me to be generally great. After stalling though the Commader and all the Carenado planes enter a surreal world of flying characteristics, nothing like a real airplane at all. I recently stalled the Commander and it somehow ended up with nose pointing straight up and falling backwards at a high rate. No control inputs did anything, I crashed. I am a real world Cherokee 140 pilot and have never been in a Commander, but I'm sure it won't do some of the things the Carenado one does. I actually got it spinning end over end and not loosing altitude. A few add-ons have fairly realistic stall spin characteristics. It would be great if there could be a single fix applied to all the Carenado planes to make them stall and spin more realistcally. I actually love practicing IFR flights in the Commander though. I like the panel and the way it flies. I have all lot of add-on planes that I haven't flown since I bought the Commander about a month ago. It's a very good plane. It's hard to explain why. Something about looks and flight model seem real to me. I just try really hard not to stall it.
  18. This is something I've noticed previously in ASA and now in ASE. I now have sp3. The problem is that the atis reports winds at the altitude and location I am flying instead of the ground level weather. On a flight today the wind was 156 at 14 at 7000, and ASE showed accurately the metar was 038 at 10G19 at the destination. The destination atis was reporting 156 at 14 resulting in an active runway 17. As I descended the wind changed back to right direction on the atis at around 1900. ATC still had me landing on a my requested ils to 35, but wanted me to circle to 17. I do not have DWC enabled.
  19. I also am having problems with license keys after installing ASE and sp2. I am a long time user of ASA and never fly without it, but now am locked out. I sent email through "contact us" on Hifi website and was quickly sent a key number, but I get an invalid license key note when I enter it. I also turned off my firewall to see if this helped, no joy. Is there a way to get this key to work or a way to uninstall ASE in order to to get ASA working again. I sent another email at the Hifi site and have had no response. I do one flight nearly everyday and am missing ASA.
  20. obviously! weather is where we fly. more realistic with the ability to fly into overcast at its base and fly out of the top and see an overcast complete coverage below. when the vis is below 10 there should be no horizon line visible, ever. thunderstorms that will tear a small plane to pieces if you fly into them, as in real life.Performance! so we won't be waiting for the computer that will never be built to run it to the max.
  21. The immediate nose drop when the wheels hit the ground seems so pronounced. I fly a lot in real Cherokee 140's and it"s easy to keep the nosewheel off the ground if you have done a soft landing. The F33 nose seems to drop no matter what speed or degree of touchdown impact. It's odd considering there is so much elevator authority at slow speeds. This is quite unlike the aeilron aurthority which gets very mushy at slow speeds in the F33. Are there any Bonanza pilots that know if the landing characteristics are right?I'm enjoying the airplane though. I'm sure I'll be flying this one for a long time.
  22. Does ASA or Xgraphics address the issue of low vis horizon line showing through 5 mile and less vis haze and the rather thick, and very noticeable band at the horizon produced by an overcast not going all the way to the horizon. This is one of the most annoying things about FSX besides the donut hole that forms around planes flying into or out of an overcast layer.I am now using ASA with FEX and I very much enjoy the programs. The b431 as solved just about all problems I was having with ASA. No more cloud popping and more stable pressure keeps altimeter from jumping around. Thanks
  23. I think ASA does some remarkable things, but the cloud popping has got to be fixed. It's certainly a deal breaker for usability.
  24. Changing the four cloud sliders to zero stopped the switching from stratus to cumulus. I did a flight last night with the most complete overcast conditions I've seen in FSX and very little donut hole effect around the airplane. Combined with the turbulence in the clouds it was very challenging. Thanks so much for your help.Since the stratus/cumulus problem is solved I've noticed another problem. When approaching clouds everything looks great until about ten miles away when the clouds pop around the plane. When I look back the clouds are behind me where there were no clouds before. It's as if the clouds suddenly moved. Once surrounded by clouds though everything looks great except for some popping as the clouds shifted to more overcast and thicker cumulus. Is there a tweak to decrease the popping.
  25. Everything is working great in ASA, FPS, better depiction of haze, and good IMC in clouds to list a few. My problem is clouds keep alternating from cumulus to stratus and back to cumulus at 3 minutes or so intervals. There is no depiction of clouds approaching, just a sudden shift from being in the clouds at 6000 to being over a low stratus layer and then back to in the cumulus- no sense of approaching clouds. Is there anything to cure this.I tried enabling more weather stations last night. It didn't help.
