MS Flight Improvement Wish List

Featured Replies

I know, I know it's very early but these types of threads are so much fun to discuss and read so I couldn't refuse. Without a doubt the press release created a massive buzz within the community with regards to the newest version of the franchise from Microsoft. I'd like to hear your thoughts on what would you like improved in the new release, it'd be nice to hear from the users that are on top of the hardware game to hear what is actually acheivable on today's hardware.

Wow, great one... :Applause:improvement tip #2 Ability to run well on the top of the line machines available on the day of release.

I'm going to go with the weather and cloud coverage to be precise, I didn't see true overcast clouds from FL300 since FS2K, it's time they brought it back. Even back then the effect of climbing out of the overcast cloud coverage left out a fantastic effect which I couldn't duplicate in any other versions. Also, beefed up flight planner with up to date Navigation data.

Make the sounds more real... No later than yesterday, I was in a 737 Classic sim (it was build in 1993...) and the spool-up sounds could still put everything I've ever heard on FS to shame...

For me the number one thing they need to do is improve the performance and optimize the engine to run with quad and hex core systems. Also if they can utilize GPU's better that could make a world of difference with about of processing power the ATI 5970's and others like it have. Just to put in perspective the ATI 5970 ($669) can do 928 GFLOPS for double precision calculations. While the Intel Core i7 980 XE ($989) runs only at 107.55 GFLOPS for double precision calculations. Also more detailed scenery would most probably be nice. Also I would like to see some improvements with jetways and other ground services. I know they are not strictly necessary but I like them to add a bit of realism especially when flying aircraft like the fantastic PMDG 747-400X.

... From what I've been told, it's taking full advantage of "live" playing, meaning assets are downloaded from servers as you play.
1) I'm hoping Microsoft can do a deal with Google and get some real terrain tiles going as you fly.2) I'm also hoping that a lot of work can be offloaded to the GPU. I'll never go back to a single GPU now, I'm hooked on the multi-monitor thing.

I'd be concerned about any tile download functionality. These images are often quite ugly if not carefully processed (colors are often unrealistic if not re worked). I prefer precise landclass and good imagery applied to that (ie the Orbx way for example)But as regards improvements, I would think that ATC, Flight Planning and weather really need an overhaul now. As others, I miss true overcast. As regards ATC, I'd really wish they could do something about handling approaches better to start with. I trust them to give a nice kick forward in terms of graphics and flight models. And I trust the 3rd party developers for what regards offering detailed systems etc. But things like ATC (and AI handling behind it) and weather can impose huge constraints at the core of the engine and restrict 3rd party, so they need to have a good base created by MS.

Mine are all weather related.1. Volumetric clouds rather than spinning bmp's2. Clouds that reflect light from a bright city below3. No more popping from clear visibilty to instant IFR, or the other way around4. No more crazy wind shifts4. Dynamic weather that you can actually see evolve. Would be nice to be able to watch a storm come together on a humid summer day.

If there is a simconnect style programmatic interface, I want methods to set the takeoff and landing runway of AI aircraft.

Well, heres my wishlist :)a) Ability to run in day-to-day computer. Ability to scale on powerful machines.b ) Bring back the ATC from the FS 2k4! Missed it sorely in the FSX.c) Better replay video. FSX replay video used to shutter!d) Retain the missions and awards idea from the FSX ;)e) Sort out bugs like flight/plane data getting saved and the next time we load a plane in the airport, the autopilot settings are all on and the plane is already accelerating!

An FMS in default airliner aircraft that can have the navigation database updated online or offline.More base set of airliner class like the 777 and/or MD-11. If not then, better compatibility with older versions of FS (and payware) so you can at least import them without any problems.Improved ATC.I think when FSX was announced there was a thread of wish lists, so add those to this that were not incorporated into FSX.

The ONLY wish i have is: IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE ! Everything else we need as add-on, we can get it from the companies who develop add-ons. They will start to support Microsoft Fligt.
