Relocate default landmark objects
When I was using FS9, there was a utility that you placed in the scenery directory that would reposition all of the default objects like Dodger's Stadium in Los Angeles and the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco to their geographically correct locations. The file name was something like qrlpt and it was freeware. Does anyone know: 1) If it works with FSX objects to do the same thing and 2) where the file can be found? I've tried searching for it both at simviation websites as well as google with no luck, so far.

Probably the best photo scenery ive gotten as freeware for fs9
Actually, not true, Scott. Effective with the release of San Diego North (month or two ago), they are not developing any scenery going forward for FS9. This is per a response directly from Gottfried to my inquiry regarding this matter.

Probably the best photo scenery ive gotten as freeware for fs9
That DTLA is by Blue Sky Scenery and is FS9 only. Further, they are no longer developing for FS9, so all new scenery areas are FSX only. That's the only reason I finally upgraded to FSX. Tawni

No more Yahoo maps?
Has anyone else seen this? Basically, article states Yahoo map API is shutting down, I'm currently using this as my service and it still seems to work, but for how long? Did say they were handing off to Nokia (which apparently already was powering Yahoo via ovi). Perhaps the transition already took place transparently? If so, wonder if there will be map version updates now?

Extracting latest nVidia Control Panel w/o installing driver
Is there some way to extract the latest nVidia Control Panel without actually installing the driver? After recently solving my texture corruption issue on my GTX 260 by replacing v196.21 with v182.50, I noticed that the older version of Control Panel that came with the older driver doesn't have the ability to save desktop color setting profiles. (I want to create a 'night flight' profile for my LDC monitor.) I can't remember if the v196.21 driver installation routine has an option for selecting only certain components or not, but I didn't want to chance continuing with the installation and causing myself more headaches. Also, I don't think there's anyway around this but, just in case, I'll ask. I like my cockpit really dim at night which can be accomplished by turning down brightness, etc. The problem with this, of course, is that my landing light becomes almost indiscernible. I guess this is just something you have to live with if you like things at night to be really dark on an LCD monitor?

Help with FS9 lockup.
I would like to pose my own success story. For me, it turned out to be a driver issue. The current nVidia driver, v196.21 turned out to be the culprit. I saw many fellow simmers using v182.50, so I tracked down that driver and installed it (I did use Driver Sweeper, as recommended). Since installing this older driver, things have been purring along without a hiccup. I filed a flight plan from Monterey, CA to Palm Springs, CA then to Las Vegas, NV and ending in San Diego, CA and let the autopilot handle the flying while I helped my SO organize the garage at our new place. Smooth sailing!I tried this driver with Crisis to make sure my card still ran newer games (not that I really care, just curious) as well as favorite legacy sim, GPL. I'm happy to report that my problem appears to be solved. So if you haven't tried driver v182.50 yet and you're having the type of problems described in this thread, give it a whirl! Now I can start having fun! :(

Relocate a building or object
*** Oops, already suggested! Sorry, disregard! :( ***I guess since you have your tower placed already, this might be moot. But there is a utility called qlrpt4ut (since you have UT) that correctly places many default scenery object is fs9 for you, including Coit, which might have saved you all these hassles. Not sure whether it places the stairway facing the right direction though! Perhaps this will save you time in placing the bridges etc in the SF area?

Photoscenery - Overlapped Area 'Bleed Through' Anamoly
I'm creating my own photoscenery areas and I'm having a problem with a lower ordered scenery area showing through a higher ordered area per FS9 Scenery Library, e.g., in the reference image provided below, Area B appears in the library list before Area A.In this example, the eastern boundary of Area A is the second vertical blue line and the western boundary of Area B is the vertical green line. The overlap area is shown shaded in magenta. Disregard the unmasked water area. The areas marked 'Bleed' is where Area A is showing through Area B in the overlap area that should be controlled by Area B. With a little color correction on Area A this might not be a problem...BUT, as many who have used this certain scenery creation tool know (I'll leave it un-named here), often the compiled scenery area contains a water-textured band along the eastern side of the scenery area. This area is shown as the two vertical blue lines. The two, dark blue squares I've outlined in lighter blue show through the Area B scenery which really annoys me!Does anybody have any idea why I'm getting this 'bleed through' problem? And more importantly, is there anything I can do to address this issue (besides ignore it and move on)?Perhaps of note is that Area B is Blue Sky Scenery's 'LAX North' area in case that might factor in. I haven't had any issues with overlapping in areas where I have created both adjacent areas (as long as I set the priorities correctly in the Scenery Library).Hope someone can help!*** Update ***Please also see second embedded image, might this be the problem?First image didn't include the whole picture...sorry! In the below image, Area A's northern boundary is depicted by the yellow horizontal line, and Area B by the red horizontal line. The green shaded area between the yellow and red lines is controlled by Area A. Could this somehow be causing an override of the other areas (bleed) in Area B? Though not shown, Area A and Area B in the below image are as previously defined above.

GTX 260 w/ 196.21 driver - BSOD in FS9 WinXP Pro SP3
desertwind replied to desertwind's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etc*** Update ****After flying exclusively in full screen mode for the last week, l can report lockups still do occur. They require a hard reboot but do not result in a BSOD. Continuing to search for the cure. Further, problem is not restricted to using Tileproxy. All my flying was done over my custom photoscenery. Also, now visible texture corruption seems less of an issue; most of the time the problem has been a total system lockup.

Help with FS9 lockup.
Thanks for resurrecting this thread, Arnaud. It's a timely topic for me since I completed a new build and just getting fs9 up and running on it. I have had texture corruption issues and freezes with much of the symptoms previously described in strider's initial post. Interestingly, I'm also running a GTX 260 Super OC from Gigabyte with the most current driver installed. I've had one CTD when the texture corruption occured while in windows mode. I've since done all flying in full screen and consistently get at least temporary freezes (10-20 seconds in duration) followed by texture corruption (which can be cleared by doing a 'scenery refresh') and occasionally, enough to be really annoying, terminal lockups requiring a hard boot. It's really frustrating because, otherwise, my new system literally and figuratively FLIES! My upgrade has been everything I hoped for, but for this (and an audio driver corruption issue) glitch. If you run across any solutions, please be sure to post!I'm wondering how important all of the GTX 260's video RAM really is for fs9? I use gpu-z utility and I've never seen it showing using more than 240mb max during a session. (Photoscenery, default C-182) I can still return my video card to Newegg. Of course, I guess the question would be what would I replace it with?

New AMD Build
desertwind replied to a post in a topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcFrom what I've read, it depends on mobo/BIOS. I went with the same mobo and CPU you're considering for an fs9 build recently. This combination supposedly supports the unlocking of the additional cores, although whether these discovered cores are stable is a hit or miss proposition. So, obviously, don't bank on it. Still, I think the Calisto represents good value for a budget builder and if you do luck out on the unlock, then of course you really score!I've had some issues with texture corruption possibly related to my Gigabyte GTX 260 and or/driver. I'll be flying along and suddenly the screen will freeze (about 10 seconds; sounds continue to play) and when it unfreezes, I will often get texture corruption of the clouds and/or ground tiles. A workaround is to momentarily switch to windowed mode or use <alt><tab> to switch from fs and back again. Also, I'm having an audio driver corruption (onboard Realtek HD) issue causing loss of external view engine sounds and loss of ability to hear ATC and your pilot voice which can be resolved by reinstalling the driver.Overall, I'm happy with this mobo/CPU combo performance-wise for fs9, just hope I can resolve the above issues and I'll be aces! Good luck on your build!

Sound of Silence
Hi, Simmer,I checked the device manager which reported no problems. Regardless, I decided to uninstall and re-install the mobo sound driver (Realtek HD Audio). Voila, the sounds are back! However, that doesn't address why things went south in the first place, but contemplating that can drive a person crazy. Anyway, let's see what happens.

Sound of Silence
*** Update ***Seems this problem extends past that which I originally thought. Now I've found that ATC communications are no longer audible either, regardless of aircraft. While I still can transmit requests and acknowledgments to and from ATC, I can no longer hear myself speaking nor any audible reply or instruction from ATC. I can only see the progress of the communication in the text window when hitting the [`] button.

Sound of Silence
Here's some FS9 weirdness that I've never experienced before. I have a fresh install of FS9 on a new computer which has been up and running for about a week. Today, when switching to spot plane view, there was no engine sound on the default C-182 I was flying. Sound is fine in VC and 2D mode, just not spot plane mode. Also, it appears to be just the engine sound is out. I deployed a notch of flaps while in spot plane view and could hear the servo motor whir while the flaps extended. I changed planes while in flight (Carenado C-210 and Piper Dakota), both of which played engine sounds just fine in spot view. However, I also noticed the same anomaly in a Jet Cities B-717 freeware aircraft model.Any ideas on what might be causing this?

ASv6.5 Has Lost Connection to HiFi Servers
I just built a new computer and have been reinstalling all of my add-ons one at a time to verify proper operation. I have had ASv6.5 installed and functioning fine with fs9.1, fe2004 and tileproxy 8. This evening I networked my new desktop PC (WinXP Pro SP3) with my notebook PC (Vista Home Premium - OEM). I was testing the network install when suddenly both computers lost connection to the internet. I reset my modem and wireless network router which restored my broadband connection. However, I've now discovered that AVv6.5 isn't connecting to the HiFi servers. I dropped my firewall (ZoneAlarm) and still no connection. I restarted my firewall and deleted ASv6.5 from the program control menu (where it had been authorized to access both the internet and trusted zone) to see what ip it was trying to connect to. ZoneAlarm reports that ASv6.5 is trying to connect to 127.0.0. Is this correct? As I recall that's a null address or something like that which connects to nowhere, often used for windows hosts files to block unwanted content for adservers and the like. Anyway, I allowed it to connect and of course nothing happened. Anyone have any ideas on what might have happened?Coincidentally, when I tried to reinstall a purchase from flight1.com (Carenado Centurion), when I ran the internet connection test, it failed, even when I dropped the firewall.I am able to download from other various websites, including flight1. So totally clueless here.Hope someone can help!*** Note ***And yes, I meant FSUIPC.dll in the header

GTX 260 w/ 196.21 driver - BSOD in FS9 WinXP Pro SP3
I just built a new system and have been happily enjoying the best flight simming experience of my life until...The killer BSOD.Just before the shutdown, fs9 will freeze although sounds will continue to play, then the BSOD appears and it's game over. This has only happened when running tileproxy, never over my custom photoscenery areas. Of note also, I spent many hours flying throughout the southern California area with no problems. The problem surfaced after about thirty minutes of flying over the Las Vegas, NV area, when I would get texture corruption of clouds and ground tiles (see pics). Now the same thing is happening in southern California. It would seem a driver issue to me, any thoughts on this? I'm so depressed!Systems specs:GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT-UD4P AM3 DDR3 AMD 790X ATX AMD MotherboardAMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Callisto 3.1GHz Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core ProcessorGigabyte GTX 260 896MB GDDR3RAM: Corsair 2GBx2 DDR3 1333Power Supply: PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750w

There was a missing baggy of screws that were to have come with the case, but not really a problem since I have tons 'o spare parts. I was really impressed with the quality of the PC P&C power supply. And I love, love, love my Smilodon mid-tower case. The clamshell design really made assembly a breeze. After a 72-hour burn in, everything seems to be functioning fine. After installing WinXP Pro SP3, I installed fs9.1 and tileproxy 8 along with all my homemade photoscenery. I hopped in the default 182 and went for a cruise over my scenery, some in very high resolution. OMG! All I can say is that I am thrilled with this system. I'm seeing detail that I've never seen before, probably as a result of the new monitor and perhaps the texture rendering with the GTX 260. Texture loading is virtually seamless. I haven't installed FE2004 or ASv6.5 yet, but I expect the impact to be minimal. (And yes, I do have an eye on REX2) I had equally satisfying, if underwhelming, results using tileproxy, the only bottleneck being my pathetic, underspeced so-called broadband connection (DSL 1.0, seriously). But, I'm moving soon to an area with FiOS coverage, hooray! All in all, for the mission I proposed in my initial post, "I'm trying to balance price and performance. I fly mostly Cat A/B aircraft, but I do like to fly in weather and am definitely hooked on tileproxy", I think I'm going to be very happy with this build. Thanks to all who responded for your hints, tips and opinions. You helped me reach an informed decision and a good result.Check six!

Proposed FS9 Platform
desertwind replied to desertwind's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcThanks for the responses, everybody! Very much appreciated. To reiterate, most of my flying is going to be Cat A/B aircraft, with mostly piston single operations under VFR. I'll file IFR if local conditions warrant. My priorities are aerial visual accuracy (photoscenery/tileproxy), high-resolution terrain mesh and fluid flight dynamics in all weather conditions. I have far less interest in high-fidelity commercial/corporate aircraft models or complex ground scenery packages. My current screen resolution (alright, everybody gasp at once! :( ) is 1024x768. I know I won't be satisfied with this once I'm up and running, so I'm planning on 22-24" in 1920x1080 at some point in the near future.Current add-ons include ASv6.5, UT-USA, GE, FE and TPv8 and various custom, non-commercial photoscenery areas. Tileproxy, for me, makes obsolete the value of UT and I feel this title has lived out its useful life for my purposes. I will continue to use GE since the night lighting effects work with my photoscenery and TP, neither of which provide night textures.Given the above criteria/itinerary and bearing in mind that cost is very much a factor, would anybody care to revise their original advice? Thanks!

Proposed FS9 Platform
desertwind replied to desertwind's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcHi, Techguy. Thanks for your response. I did a little more research, both here at avsim as well as other sites, consensus being that the GeForce 250-series in a decent build will handle just about anything fs9 can throw at it. I'm not a gamer, so with the exception of FS9, all this fancy hardware is just going to be loafing along 90% of the time. I plan on using this system for at least 2-3 years, so I might as well spend a little bit more and be happy when virtually airborne. I've decided on the Palit NE3TS25EFHD02 GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card. You mentioned you're not a fan of the case I selected. Is this from personal experience? It seems to be quite a well-received item and, in concept anyway, I really like many of the features this case offers.
