  1. Considering most users will have no need for distibuted sim or multi-chan setup cant FSX users find a way to go halves on these subs? Thats $5 each a month. Could be one year of supported sim flying with updates for $60 (€47) or five years for $300 (€235). Two hundred less than a full licenece and 5yrs is a long time in gaming. I pay for some monthly sub games (wwiiol) and all I can say is there is nothing like continued support for a game/sim.
  2. Ok the program you are looking for is ReduceAI found here,http://library.avsim.net/search.php?Search...=root&Go=SearchTo save you guys the hassle I have already redone all the WOAI packs than need doing. All new packs are done already going back a while. I have excluded packs that are under 12 flight plans (small airlines) and ones that are pre "randomized" (obviously). Here is a zip with all the Aircraft, Airport & Flightplan*.txt files! Just Encode with TTOOLS AIFPC. I personally convert all the BGLs to FSX format to get back boat AI and the like. The guy at WOAI dropped a bollock for some reason when i tried to post em there so lets not invite him.http://www.mediafire.com/upload_complete.php?id=4dpdl09mjlx
  3. >Convert all the WOAI plans to FSX format and your default GA>traffic will return. There are converters here at the>library.>>Jim>>http://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpg>http://www.hifisim.com/This is what I have done too. Basically install the WOAI files as usual and then take the BGLs in the scenery/world folder (in batches is the best way) and convert them to FSX with the AIFPC program. Its pretty easy. One significant reason to do this is that if you are using WOAI the flight plans are of FS9 standard and if there are any FS9 plans in the traffic folder then all FSX compatible traffic is disabled and you loose boats, goats, FSX GA + Airline traffic. Personally i don't want the default traffic at all and i deleted the default aircraft traffic file as stated above. I then downloaded WOAI GA traffic to compensate.IMO WOAI is far superior to the default (obviously). Remember to use the AIsmooth program to iron out dodgy ATC guidance to the AI traffic (no more being bullied on approach by robopilot!)
  4. Well i had some pretty old omega drivers which i should have changed ages ago. It probably accounts for the large jump in my setup's dire performance.Dotsie.
  5. No I don't mind, I hope people like it as much as me. No need for credit if you want, I didn't create anything new.Dotsie.
  6. This topic has been moved by the moderator of this forum. It can be found at:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...&topic_id=30257
  7. Get the ATI Catalyst 7.10 drivers. FSX performance more than doubled for me! Its amazing. Please report your finding. My comp isAMD64 4000+1 GIG DDR 400ATI X850XT Platinum-Card setting are maxed out.-Autogen extremely dense (with the reduced xml files)-Scenery very dense-LOD medium-Texture res 2m-Mesh is maxed out with the high quality SRTM files-Water Low 2.X-All others mostly high with light-bloom OFF (light-bloom is the main fps killer in game)-Taffic is set quite low though
  8. The suneffect.cfg entry sorry, forgot.Download: http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...isc&DLID=111198or copy & paste[general]SunSize=1100MoonSize=2072SunTexture="sun.bmp"LensFlareCount="10"RenderCorona="1"RenderGlow="1"RenderMoonCorona="1"[LensFlare.1]Texture="sunglow.bmp"Size="1.1"Location="1.00"Intensity="0.5"Sunglow="1"[LensFlare.2]Texture="corona1.bmp"Size="0.55"Location="1.00"Intensity="0.25"Corona="1"
  9. I've been playing around with this now for a while and think I've found a satisfactory setting that gives enough radiance during the day without the sun lingering too long after sunset. I'll try upload it as a zip to library with the tweak config file and the original. Again it should be noted that this is for those who can't use light-bloom. The screenshot sky texture are also not the default.http://picasaweb.google.com/davidjamesbolg...169684764792018http://lh5.google.com/davidjamesbolger/Rxk...s/s800/comp.jpghttp://picasaweb.google.com/davidjamesbolg...169710534595810 http://lh3.google.com/davidjamesbolger/Rxk.../s800/comp1.jpgDotsie.
  10. Would it be worth posting this cfg file to the File Library so more people who can't use light-bloom can use it??? I still haven't finished testing it fully though.Dotsie.
  11. >wow, this is awesome, can't wait for a release!I think you may be confused and think that the sky textures come with this! They look super good but they are from the pay-ware "RealSky V3 Extra Edition" which i HIGHLY recommend. The sky will still look neon purple it's just that the sun will look better if you cant enable light-bloom. This code only alters how the sun looks. Try it out but remember to backup your "suneffect.cfg" file.Dotsie.
  12. Light-bloom is a fairly heavy hit on the fps so I know a lot of us have to switch it off. The visual effect on the sun pretty dire though, like a dim bulb in the sky. The sun, and a large portion of the sky surrounding it should appear to blaze when observed directly. I played around with the suneffect.cfg file and got some nice results. Heres some pictures.*Note: Light-bloom is off, lens-flare on & the default sky textures have been replaced by the most excellent payware "RealSky V3 Extra Edition" versions. Some comparisons.http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/5724/suneffectlc2.jpgAt sunset and the suns afterglow, which stays present for longer and is more intense.http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/8366/suneffect1xf8.jpgThe result is achieved by altering the three parameters that control the sun, corona and the halo/glow. Their size and intensity. Opinions sought.[Edit]Woops I forgot to post the cfg code! Paste these into your suneffect.cfg over-writing the first three paragraphs with these three. Its located in main "Flight Simulator X" folder. REMEMBER TO BACKUP THE ORIGINAL!!![general]SunSize=1100MoonSize=2072SunTexture="sun.bmp"LensFlareCount="10"RenderCorona="1"RenderGlow="1"RenderMoonCorona="1"[LensFlare.1]Texture="sunglow.bmp"Size="1.9"Location="1.00"Intensity="1.5"Sunglow="1"[LensFlare.2]Texture="corona1.bmp"Size="0.55"Location="1.00"Intensity="0.4"Corona="1"Dotsie.
  13. You have your fps slider too high. Setting it lower allows more computing power to be devoted to other tasks so the game will run smoothly. There is a lot more going on than just the graphical load.Dotsie.
  14. Tried both settings on 1000 and 64000 but i can see no difference. Anyone else?Dotsie.
  15. No i didn't, whats the config value. I've done a few more night flights now though and am extremely pleased with the manual adjustment method. Killing you instruments over the dark ocean on a moonless night is scary. Easy to see how you could fly it into the sea.Dotsie.
  16. After flying around at night in FSX for a while I've noticed that night flying doesn't seem to resemble my experience (passenger) of flying. The ground is far too visible and ground lighting isn't contrasted enough against what should be a very dark background. Also I find the washed out effect means that landing lights are unable to pick out runway/taxiway details. With this in mind i started to adjust in-game brightness, contrast and gamma correction to achieve what i thought was a more satisfactory look to the night environment. Here is a picture comparison showing a 737-800 holding short. There is also a real picture for comparison taken before the sun has fully set. The settings used to create the more "realistic" environment are as follows. I used "ATI Tray Tools" to adjust this as it allows auto loading of these presets with profiles on game load, or assignment to hot-keys. In the adjusted version you will notice that outside of the landing lights very little is visible. Within the lights the runway number, verge and colours are all noticeably easier to differentiate. Also the city lights in the background are more vivid and stand out more. Before i made this change i found i could navigate both on the ground and in the air over a dark ocean quite easily by visual reference. Now its a lot easier to become disoriented visually in dark areas. Populated areas have a much higher visability.Night-time settingsBrightness = -1 (in range -100 to +100)Contrast = +19 (in range -40 to +400)Gamma = 1.35 (in range 0 to 3.40)http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/4509/nighttimeqv5.jpgHere is a link to a slide-show showing more examples and comparisons. It also contains adjustments to the day lighting which i find dull and again kinda washed out. Clouds now look brighter, more white and colours also more vivid. The difference is quite subtle.http://picasaweb.google.com/davidjamesbolg...709671996035890Daytime SettingsBrightness = +1 (in range -100 to +100)Contrast = +23 (in range -40 to +400)Gamma = 1.09 (in range 0 to 3.40)As for how i implement the different setting between i simply use "ATI Tray Tools" to assign colour profiles to hot-keys. One for Day one for Night. I would like some other opinions on the FSX lighting environment.P.S. I should note my monitor is set to (Brightness 80%, Contrast 100%)Dotsie.
  17. Yes but i believe its not a hardware problem. I played for 2 or 3 days without installing the CD drivers and noticed nothing. When i did install i am findng the odd "phantom" button push. I expect a software update to correct it but i would like to know how to uninstall the Saitek HID drivers to revert to the PnP version.Dotsie.
  18. The default screw position is 30mm from edge, however there are auxillary positions for the screw clamp. You just have to unscrew the thred holder and move it. The throttle has a max clearance to the edge of 47mm and yoke is 74mm. Heres a pic of the maximum.http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/4097/49065852xj4.jpgDotsie.
  19. Have my saitek yoke a few days now (this is my first yoke btw). I wont bother adding another review. Ill just say its excellent so far and i highly recommend it. There was one thing that bothered me about it (like most sticks I've had). The tension on the pitch axis springs was too high not allowing for a smooth control action that i prefer. The roll tension is however is just about perfect imo.In the past I've even sometimes completely removed all tension in my sticks when i couldn't mod the tension, however this is an unsatisfactory solution as some tension is desirable for obvious reasons . Thus I modified my yoke to cut the pitch tension by ~50%. I thought others might prefer a "loose" yoke like me so i made a small picture guide. Hope it is of some use to somebody.Heres a link to the image.http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/4842/pr...okeguideau3.jpgDotsie
