  1. Hello everyone,I had a question about the lighting effects in FSX. I was watching some videos of real-life night landings and I really liked how the exterior lights of the aircraft lit up the ground (ie, flashing strobes, beacons, constant nav lights, etc.). I know in FSX only the landing and taxi lights can light up the ground like this. Is it possible to create or use a modification that enables the ground to be lit up by ALL aircraft lights? Also, is there an effect out there or can one be created to light up the CLOUDS as one is flying through them? Thanks all!
  2. Yes, you would put the replacement uiautomationcore.dll in the main FSX folder.I can confirm that rebuilding my FSX.cfg and adding the AffinityMask tweak has cured years' worth of fatal errors for me. I get the occasional error but it's hardware-related and not sim-related.As for UsePools=0 and HIGHMEMFIX=1, I found that UsePools=0 gives me more pausing and very frequent "blurries." I have heard very good things about HIGHMEMFIX=1 and will give it a try.Good Luck!
  3. I had no idea the default GPS had all the procedures for the different types of approaches - it's more like an FMC than a GPS!Thanks to everyone for all the links, I am becoming more and more acquainted with approach charts now and having less trouble reading them. Needless to say I will be trying all these different procedures in FSX and see how it goes. Thanks again!
  4. Hello everyone,Recently I've started getting rather bored by the repetitive ILS and Visual approaches that ATC has always been assigning me. I've looked through the approach lists in the ATC menu and did not understand most of the other approaches. Can someone please tell me or point me to tutorials which explain how to execute sidestep, circle-to-land, and localizer backcourse techniques in FSX?Can the same please be done on how to execute VOR, VOR-DME, NDB, and RNAV approaches in FSX?I know I am asking a lot but any and all help is appreciated. Thanks very much!
  5. I am using FSX, flying a Boeing 777-200LR.I have used the FlightAware format coordinates in SimRoutes many times before and it has worked. For some reason, this one route isn't being recognized by the sim at all.I'll keep trying and periodically report in.Thanks!
  6. Hello everyone,I recently decided that I wanted to replicate the Boeing 777-200LR's record breaking flight (Hong Kong to London flying eastbound). So I go to SimRoutes.com and create a rough route based on information that I have obtained, however when I select this flight in the flight planner, nothing happens, and the flight plan isn't loaded. What could be wrong? I have posted the contents of the .pln file below.[flightplan]title=VHHH to EGLLdescription=VHHH, EGLLtype = IFRroutetype = 3cruising_altitude=37000departure_id=VHHH, N22* 18.54', E113* 54.88', +000028.00destination_id=EGLL, N51* 28.65', W0* 27.68', +000080.00departure_name=Hong_Kong_Chek_Lap_Kokdestination_name=Heathrowwaypoint.0=VHHH, A, N22* 18.54', E113* 54.88', +000000.00, waypoint.1=3500N 18000W, I, N35* 00.00', W180* 00.00', +000000.00, waypoint.2=SFO, V, N37* 37.17', W122* 22.43', +000000.00, waypoint.3=LAX, V, N33* 55.99', W118* 25.92', +000000.00, waypoint.4=JFK, V, N40* 37.97', W073* 46.28', +000000.00, waypoint.5=EGLL, A, N51* 28.65', W000* 27.68', +000000.00, Thanks very much in advance!
  7. I'll try out Prime95 and other diagnostics and tests later on, but I cracked open the case and there is indeed tons of dust and grime all over the place. I'll buy some compressed air and clean everything out, run more tests, then let everyone know what's going on.Thanks for all the help so far.PS...is even the "unhandled exception" error caused by hardware?
  8. Hello everyone,Recently my FSX installation has been very unsturdy. Here is everything that I have been experiencing:- Fatal errors once every 15 or so minutes;- Odd stuttering, where the audio pops and the game "stutters," happens once every couple seconds (ALT+TABbing out of and back into the game temporarily makes the game smooth again, however the stutters start up again within a minute);- When the simulation initially loads, nothing is rendered, i.e. everything is a blocky texture or not completely rendered; I have to ALT+TAB out of the game and ALT+TAB back in to get everything to load properly;- Frequent blue screens of death, with the message "SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION";- While simming, every 5 minutes I get a .NET "Unhandled exception" error, and everytime I try to find the cause, the description points me to one of my addons, which has all of a sudden failed for no reason (FS AI Separation, AISmooth, REX 2.0, FS Water Configurator, Ultimate Traffic 2).I don't know why everything is so unreliable all of a sudden, never in my life have I had such an unstable game installation. I tried everything; complete system defragmentation + optimization, full virus scan, disk cleanup, update of sound and video drivers, installing the latest Windows Updates, deletion and rebuilding of logbook.bin and fsx.cfg, and such, however nothing seems to be helping. I am getting desperate, I don't know what's going on! Please help! Thanks very much in advance!
  9. I know that the guys over at Airsimmers created a modified sim1.dll file for FS9 to tone down the high ground friction:http://www.airsimmer.com/support/index.php...=3690&st=20However I have not seen anything for FSX. Some of my addon planes already taxi on idle thrust. I just want to be able to taxi on one engine without much pull, without moving the location of the engines, but that doesn't seem likely.
  10. I recently had the chance to fly Frontier Airlines from Denver, CO to Louisville, KY and back. The outbound flight to Louisville was in an Airbus A319, and on the way inbound to Denver, It was an Airbus A320. I noticed that our outbound captain taxied with only the #1 engine, and started up #2 only for flight. Our inbound captain taxied to the runway with both engines, but shut #2 down on the way back to the gate at DEN.I figured that asymetrical thrust wasn't really a problem, because the plane seemed to be taxiing quite straight.I had never done this in FS before, so I decided to give it a try. I replicated the aforementioned flight in every way possible, right down to the same aircraft starting at the same gate. I then tried to taxi on one engine but it didn't really work. The asymetrical thrust was so strong that above certain N1s, I couldn't taxi straight at all, and when I could, the plane kept pulling right and I had to deflect the rudder left to keep the plane straight. It's only on wing-mounted engines too, my MD-80s and CRJs still taxi straight even on one engine. I know that even in real life, asymetrical thrust affects wing-mounted-engine aircraft more than tail-mounted-engine aircraft, so this wasn't much of a surprise. This brought two questions up in my head that I couldn't really fathom. First of all, is there a way to reduce the effects of asymetrical thrust on wing-mounted-engine aircraft in FS?And what I've always wondered, does the asymetrical thrust really affect wing-mounted-engine aircraft in real life, even though I couldn't feel it? Was our captain having to deflect the rudder left to keep the plane straight, thereby dragging the slightly turned nosewheel along the ground? Thanks very much in advance!
  11. Hello everyone,This has never happened to me before, but I'm experiencing an odd phenomenon. I will start up a flight, then 5-10 minutes in, my audio starts "popping" once every few seconds, and with that popping, the sim "stutters." I will go from 25 FPS down to 6-7 FPS, then back up to 25. I am simultaneously experiencing audio "popping" along with "stutters" once every few seconds. The only way to bring it back to normal is to ALT+TAB out of the sim, then ALT+TAB back in, however the stuttering starts up again after a while. What could be causing such an annoyance? Thanks.
  12. Hello everyone,I don't have the "Daedalus" repaints installed, but putting the FSX AI sliders to 0% sure helped. What confuses me is that before my HD failed, the FSX AI sliders had no effect at all, in fact it might have helped influence the amount of UT2 AI. Oh well, this'll still fly well with me! (pun intended :( )Thanks to all.
  13. The 500 GB drive was rendered inoperable, in turn causing all the data in the 320 GB drive to be lost.I'll try reloading the chipset drivers and see if there is a secondary drive controller to use. I hope this never happens again. The problem is that if the motherboard is at fault, I'll probably try to replace it. If I replace the motherboard, I'll have to replace the CPU and other various components as well to keep up with the current technology, which would cost a lot of $$$ :( Thanks for the suggestions.
  14. Hello everyone,Recently, my computer's HD failed, and I lost everything. I'm happy to report that I've gotten everything back up and running again, however, I am now having an incredibly irritating issue.I reinstalled Flight1's Ultimate Traffic 2, and that went well, however, the default Microsoft AI traffic is mixed in with the UT2 traffic. I know from prior knowledge that I was supposed to disable the trafficAircraft.bgl file in my Scenery/World/Scenery folder...but for some reason, my Scenery folder is lacking this file! This is all I have in that folder:What is a .utb file and what is it doing there? Renaming it, deleting it, moving it, cutting it, etc. had absolutely NO effect on the stock AI traffic. No matter what I do, I cannot seem to disable the default AI traffic. Help?! :( Thanks very much in advance!
  15. Hello everyone,I've been experiencing some HD trouble lately. As you can see in my sig, I'm currently on a 320 GB hard drive. I used to have a 500 GB hard drive solely dedicated to FSX and addons, but here's what mystifies me.One morning, I turn on the computer only to find that it won't POST, and upon inspection, the 500 GB hard drive had failed, and somehow, in turn, the 320 GB drive was wiped out as well. I have gone through THREE hard drives like this, and for no apparent reason, they kept failing, and I had to exchange them for new ones. Only the 320 GB hard drive survives today. Is it the motherboard or the HD that is the culprit? HD's shouldn't fail on a monthly basis...what's going on?
  16. I noticed that all the DLLs that I mentioned were fairly new versions (September 2007, date modified), meaning that they had to have come with Acceleration and SP2. I uninstalled then reinstalled SP2/Acceleration, and lo and behold, my fatal errors have disappeared. I just don't want to have to keep uninstalling and reinstalling Acceleration/SP2 everytime these crop up again, but it seems like I have no other alternative.
  17. Thanks for the replies.I am not on Windows 7 but I'm on Vista x64. Upon further investigation of my main FSX folder I found that the uiautomationcore.dll file was never there in the first place. I downloaded it and put it in the folder and thought I had the problem solved. However, 30 minutes later, I get another fatal error. The Event Viewer yet again says "Faulting module unknown."Jahman, I have never used the Windows Driver Kit before and don't know how to determine the unknown faulting module. Can you walk me through how to do this please? All I have done up to this point is download the ISO file. Thanks again.
  18. For the past couple of months or so, every time I am peacefully "free-flighting," after 15-30 minutes or so my mouse cursor will change to the "busy" cursor, the sim will freeze, and I will get a dialog box telling me that "A fatal error has occurred" and that "Microsoft Flight Simulator X is restarting." Then FSX will CTD.I've been in the Windows Event Log to try to pinpoint the faulting module, and have heard that uiautomationcore.dll is one of the prime causes of this, however all my errors never seem to revolve around this DLL. I have seen three different faulting modules, no more, no less:- Faulting module unknown- Faulting module kernel32.dll- Faulting module Wpc.dllWhat could possibly be the cause of my fatal errors and what can I do to stop them???Here are the entries from the event log:"Faulting application fsx.exe, version 10.0.61637.0, time stamp 0x46fadb14, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0xf845c7d0, process id 0x8ec, application start time 0x01caca100330b278.""Faulting application fsx.exe, version 10.0.61637.0, time stamp 0x46fadb14, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e038c0, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0001e124, process id 0x122c, application start time 0x01caca0d80fc04d0.""Faulting application fsx.exe, version 10.0.61637.0, time stamp 0x46fadb14, faulting module Wpc.dll, version 1.0.0.1, time stamp 0x4791a783, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00044b78, process id 0x514, application start time 0x01cabf2b4a3051a0."
  19. I heard somewhere that if you are a healthy adult, your chances of dying are less than your chances of winning the lottery twice.I don't know if this is true or not though.
  20. Flying slightly pitched-up is usually the most efficient cruising angle of attack for a large commercial airliner. Keep in mind that your 747 is a lot heavier than an A321 or B737 and thus it will tend to fly nose-up more to counteract the added weight. And then, VERY gradually, it will decrease its pitch as it gets lighter as it burns off more fuel.
  21. These are called high-detail airports, and there are high-detail cities as well. You might find this link useful, and each airport mentioned is probably also based off of photoscenery.http://www.simtours.net/highdetailairports.phpBe sure to read the comments as well, as they include some airports not included in the main page.
  22. Napamule,I do not appreciate your tone of voice. I check my facts before I post, and to prove it to you, here is a screenshot. As you can see, I have the autopilot engaged, yet I'm running at 16x, even though you said that 4x is the limit. You can try it for yourself. Go start a flight, climb to a level cruising altitude with the AP on, and try to raise the simulation rate as much as you can. Going beyond 4x will be easier than you think.
  23. Try switching off "Ground Scenery Casts Shadows" and see if that helps. Solved it for me.
  24. Are you sure this is all coming from AI traffic? I saw some spots where the landing lights seemed to be coming out of nowhere. Have you installed any scenery recently for LAX? And what does the airport look like with AI Traffic at 0%?
  25. Time compression limit with autopilot has always been 16x. 4x is the limit (AP or not) for AI traffic. Anything over 4x and AI traffic gets disabled. But you can certainly go over 4x with autopilot on.The gyrating problem is a common plague, even if the plane's payload and center of gravity is perfect. I'm sorry, but even I am desperate as to how to fix this so I cannot be of much help here. :(Edited by BoeingGuy, Monday, July 20, 2009
