  1. I'm sure you realize that shipping a product all the way to Australia is expensive. . .J/K - No, that is strange. . .at the same time, I'm sure they are gathering valuable data about price elasticity. . .but that is kinda cruddy no matter what. . .
  2. Nah - just like it is now with 3rd party FSX products - we buy as our budget allows - maybe $50 a month for some and $50 per year for others. . .no difference at all. . .
  3. Hogwash on not being able to make a profit giving up 30% of the sale price. As it is now, 3PDs surely spend at least that in marketing, distribution, piracy, and support. They will also benefit from their product being 'showcased' within Flight where everyone can see it on day one, sales will be much greater than they are now. . .I voted 'no'.
  4. Make sure you are not hosting a public MP session - it can get juddery when people come in or out of your "room"
  5. I do see you point - it would seem that once Flight development was covered, DLC would become less expensive. Instead of $15 for a single plane, maybe $5. Unfortunately, people are willing to pay more than $5 for a good plane. MSFT has very little need to price the DLC such that we'd end up spending $100 for 20 planes and the whole world, even though that closely resembles FSX pricing. Scenery too, people are willing to pay $25-$50 for scenery or even a single airport. Along those lines, the DLC is very reasonable even at it's current level - and I think MSFT knows that. Sure, there will be sales on DLC or bundles - Hawaii will probably be on sale sometime down the road when sales drop below a certain level - much like movies on disc. . .
  6. What's tickled me about X-wind landings is that I suck at them and I used to think I was good based on 'other' flight sims. . .Soft landing, but off center. On center but too hard. Too much side load, hard landing, and off center. . .the good news is that I seem to get better most every time and I'm doing a LOT more adjusting VS with throttle than ever. . .
  7. Someone in another post said to put 'er down anywhere suitable - off airport is fine and they will use a tree. . .
  8. I use the digitial RPM gauge. . .
  9. Will be interesting to see. . .I'd think the more stuff modeled, the more detail, the more it will cost. . .that being said, seems that most of us would rather pay more and get more.
  10. LOL - I see FastCheetah702 is up to his antics again - I did a session with him the other day getting 4 of us settled onto the garage next to the cruise ship - it was a hoot.
  11. Just replayed that mission and didn't use any Skip to Waypoints and my return to the airport featured a beautifully lit runway / VASI setup - landed without incident. I didn't go back and try it by skipping to see if that results in a dark runway. . .
  12. I'm having night lighting issues too (or lack of). The observatory mission was completely void of lights (that I could see). I did manage to do the observation part of the mission, but when I returned to the airport, I couldn't see *anything* in terms of runway lights or really much of anything else. Couldn't do the landing because I couldn't see the runway, or even the airport for that matter. . .just complete darkness.
  13. So, you join a multiplayer session and maybe 10 of you decide to fly in formation from X to Y. Thirty minutes into your flight, the person who 'created' the mutiplayer session has his boss walk in so he quits the game. The result is the 10 of us flying together all disappear without warning or opportunity to 'take over' the host spot and keep the session alive.
  14. I like that I don't feel compelled to reboot before I get started and that I can have Pandora, Excel, Quickbooks, and a remote desktop running without fear of crashing.
  15. I'd like it if, when a host quits a MP session if the host position would allocate to someone else who is in the room rather than scattering everyone into nowhere. . .10 players doing a coordinated activity and 11th host quits and everyone disappears.-1
  16. Is it spring yet? Is it spring yet? is it spring yet? Is it spring yet?
  17. As a "hardcore" video game, Flight leaves a lot to be desired. Compared to many modern games, it doesn't really offer too much in terms of action, adventure, destruction, puzzle solving, or strategy. It's nothing like Battlefield or Little Big Planet or Halo in terms of gameplay. In fact, for many 'hardcore' gamers, I'd think a score of '5' would be common. I'm not a hardcore gamer. I do like Battlefield (although I get sick playing) and LBP and NBA2k12 and I'm certain that if I didn't like aviation, I'd give Flight a 5 too. Heck, from a 'hardcore gamer' POV, I'd give FSX a 1.I think a very small percentage of people have something inside them that makes flight simulation appealing. As they say, it's not for everyone. Flight will not cause someone who has no interest in aviation to suddenly want to be good at it. Flight will not cause a 'typical' hardcore gamer to become an aviation enthusiast. What it does do is allow those who do have that internal flame to go down the road many of us have walked and join us. Many of us started with an early version of FS and got hooked. Back then, there were no jets, scenery, ATC, RWW, or global coverage. Even though, our internal passion of aviation was all that was needed to 'fill in' the missing elements.FSX can be seen as the 'death blow' to newcomers (those who have that desire for aviation). A 13 year old who fires up FSX for the first time to explore his internal twitch will have a terrible time with the product for all the reasons we all know about. With Flight, he or she will have an exceptional introduction with a wholely familiar presentation and will finally be afforded the opportunity to develop that passion without the frustrations and baggage that comes with FSX.I don't think Flight was intended to convert people who don't have aviation in their gut. Rather, it's goal is to 'fan the flame' of the next generation of people who do.
  18. I'm suspect MSFT will add autopilot to Flight - no idea when, but probably not too long. The good part about not having A/P this early in the release is rolling up your sleeves and flying - the model seems to be better than ever and nailing the landings are quite a challenge unlike what I've experienced in FSX - give it good wringing without the AP and see what you think. ..
  19. So, no slew mode to cheat - I thought making it to 20,000' was pretty cool - the scenery is lush and the air is thin. . .
  20. I had heard you can, just wondering as I hadn't heard anyone mention what the other islands look like. Curious as to how bad they look or if you can land and stuff. . .
  21. Wondering if, without the HI DLC, can you fly to other islands? If so, what is there?
