  1. Well, technically speaking, P3D is in active development. To certain extent, so is FSX since it became available on Steam.

On the other hand, there has been a troubling absence of visible XPlane development, and from something I heard, for an even more troubling reason.

If by a troubling absence of visible X-Plane development you mean updates and betas every few weeks for the last five years, then I guess you are right.

  2. Impossible, there are no good aircraft. IXEG's 737 and FF's 767 are not enough and i don't want to fly beautiful sceneries with flying rocks.

The rest is simply not on par with P3D/FSX's offer, maybe PMDG's DC-6 but i don't like the type. With gems such as FSL's A320 coming out and soon PMDG's 747, QW's 787 and DA's CRJ i don't see myself using X-Plane anytime soon.

That being said, X-Plane rests on my 512 SSD waiting for a revival of some sort, unfortunately.

You are entitled to your opinion no matter how wrong it is. IXEG 737 a flying rock. Wow, just wow

  3. Hi Sethos,

I am curious if the states that you have created can be uploaded to Avsim so people could download and use them. If this is the case, I might be willing to do the same so the community would have photo scenery created by the community. Thanks.

It would not be a good idea to start sharing orthos. Most of them use data from Google Earth or Bing Maps, to distribute them in any form would be breaching their intellectual property. They could potentially come down pretty hard on anyone doing that. Its the reason you do not see orthos being shared anywhere. Either make them for your personal use or buy them from someone who has paid for the license to use the data

  4. I strongly advice NOT to do this.

X-Plane will only search for this files in its own directory.

When windows placed those files elswhere X-Plane is getting in trouble.

But even when those things do not happen, doing it will cause X-Plane files being stored outside the X-Plane folder wich is not very handy when making a backup of X-Plane anyways.

I am no IT expert but I think this is wrong. X-Plane will always save its files to it's own folder and not anywhere else. The idea of giving the .exe files administrator status is to make sure that the X-Plane folder has the relevant permission to read and write files to itself. Sometime when any folder is copied to another location, the read/write permissions can change making saving files an issue. Feel free to correct me if this is wrong.

  5. I'm a big Boeing fan and only fly the 737 and 777 on P3Dv3.  Once in a while I use XP to fly the FF 757 and 767, which are commendable and enjoyable efforts that are still not even close to PMDG.  What I love about XP is the 64-bit (for example I can circle DD NYC scenery and never get an OOM error) and its stability (never had a CTD).

Once PMDG makes makes XP versions of the  737 and 777, I might fully switch to XP, but I also look forward to see how P3D does with 64-bit and if CTDs become a thinkg of the past.  I also plan on trying DTG's offering later this year.

I think the competition is great and keeps our hobby more interesting.

If you like 737's then you should take a look at the IXEG 737-300. In many respects it surpasses PDMG's 737. particularly when it comes to sheer immersion and enjoyment

  6. A quick search through these very forums will reveal PMDGs reasoning for it. But in short it was partly a labour of love for this type of plane and partly because it gave PMDG the opportunity to develop a new plane on a new platform without having to delve into the complexities of modern glass cockpits and as test bed to port a product developed for X-Plane over to FSX/P3D rather than vice versa

  7. The plane is 10/10 but support is 1/10. Expect elitist ignorance from  x-aviation.

Ah the person that gave fake credentials at X-Aviation, complained about it at X-Plane.org and got closed down and now trying to complain about it here. I cannot see any reason for giving false credentials other than attempted fraud, you will find very little sympathy from most X-Plane users or X-Aviation customers.

  8. Supporting Xplane is great cause, neglecting the client base of FSX is not understandable, I went through many reviews to Xplane and I decide I will not buy it for now, so the question is why focusing on thousands of users and neglecting a confirmed profit form 10s of thousands of FSX customers? ..... I don't get it

Basically PMDG are ignoring the FSX users by making them a 747v3.

  9. Was going to be a day 1 purchase for me too until I realised it is for X-plane - so very disappointed here as this is THE addon I had been looking forward to for years! Are there any plans to develop this for FSX or do we have to remain content with the Just Flight product?

    Bill

If you have been looking forward to it for so long, I would have presumed you have been following the forums, where you would have learnt, firstly it was being released for X-Plane then later for FSX and P3D.

  10. Do we know yet what the retail outlet will be for this? Direct from PMDG, or that plus the .org store, or what?

I guess we'll hear about that soon (along with the price), but if it's PMDG direct, can anyone who has dealt with them let us know what their experience had been for sales and support? As an X-Plane user for the last 10 years or so, I have no idea.

At first I thought I might not go for this, because it doesn't fit my business model (such as it is) in the FSEconomy game where I do most of my sim flying. Can't afford to virtually buy the big ones like this, especially with recent changes in fees. But I might get it anyway just to experience the Golden Age of Early Transport vibe, and fly it outside of FSE for kicks. I do love radial engines.

I would imagine that they would sell it direct from their store initially at least. I bought the 737NG for P3D there with no problems. I cannot comment on support personally as I have had no problems but from what I have heard from people that have needed support, its always been prompt and helpful. PMDG are probably the biggest name in third party addons for the flight sim industry, I am sure you will have no issues.

  11. I have become really fond of X-Plane but there's one thing in particular which I find very annoying -

When cruising at say FL360, the ground tiles (coordinates) in front of you does not load up until you almost approach that area. Therefore, it seems as I am flying towards the infamous biblical cliff. I have set the world distance detail - option to very high but it does not seem to influence the outcome. Also, I know I have all Europe tiles (+W2XP) so it seems strange that X-Plane is so slow in loading them in....

Switch on Extended DFS in Rendering Settings it loads the tiles around the one you are flying in for a seamless view out to the horizon
