  1. There are two tools that make scenery insallation a breeze in X-Plane. Firstly Tom Knudsen's library installer. This will install pretty much all the third party libraries for you in the correct location

Secondly, X-Organiser will arrange the sceneries in the right order, allow you to activate/deactivate plugins and even start up X-Plane for you.

  2. A lot of the promise you see in X-Plane has already been realised. There are without a doubt issues, but the pros well outweigh the cons. Any platform has issues, I would imagine one reason PMDG are exploring XP is the 64 bit environment allows them to unleash their own creativity and increase system depths even further. In order to maximise your XP enjoyment I would recommend three sites.

http://www.alpilotx.net Extremely good high resolution meshes that also add much more to the scenery (Donationware)

http://simheaven.com/?p=3124 Contains scenery based on Open Street Maps making for a highly realistic looking sim (Donationware)

www.x-plane.org has some amazing freeware sceneries particularly those by Misterx6 and TDG whose work rivals payware.

Lastly there are some very active and helpful communities on Facebook if you are a member.

These are links to a couple of my own screenshots

  3. I am sorry but I am with Adam on this.

"While much of the XPL world looks rubbish compared to what we are all used to in P3d"

Firstly as a beta tester for the first product on a new platform for PMDG, do you consider this an acceptable statement?

Secondly it is woefully wrong. There is an abundance of stunning freeware meshes, scenery and airports that make X-Plane look on a par with if not better than P3D with little or no effort required to install.

As for Adam posting links to these, perhaps you should have made yourself aware of the capabilities of the platform before blindly dissing it. You could have started right here on Avsim's very own active and helpful X-Plane forums.

  4. You mean line up my Saitek throttles with the popup, or moving the 3D cockpit throttle with the mouse? Anyways, moving my Saitek throttle immediately after turning off A/T does nothing - no response what so ever. However, it seems as it is working while testing on ground, not in air though :aggressive:

You bring the hardware throttles up to the ghost throttle indicators on screen. When they align they will lock together. Its a neat solution and works well

  5. I actually uninstalled P3D yesterday along with the PMDG 737. I rarely used them anyway, and now with the IXEG, I am pretty certain they will never get used. Great shots and as others have said, there are some superb freeware airports available at .org. Look for Misterx6 and TDG in particular

  6. If the PMDG DC6 goes well, there is every chance they will bring the NG in X-Plane. They have hinted this would happen in the past. How long that would take is anyone's guess but I would imagine less than five years as they already have much of the raw data they need.

  7. I'm not the only one running into problems, everyone using a SID or a STAR is. I've checked out some twitch streams, and every one is having problems with it. There is a sub-forum related to FMC crashes on their support page. I'm not making this up. The FMC is broken

First not everyone, a minority have issues, secondly the main issue has be tracked down to a conflict with XUIPC (within 24 hours of release) a temporary fix released (within  48 hours) and a permanent fix due imminently. I don't know of any other sim developer around that has been so proactive and quick in sorting issues. You appear to be scare mongering

  8. X-Aviation have apparently being working with Captain Mike Ray to not only get a special offer on the 737-300 manual but also some new materials too. From what I understand there will be plenty of good information in the manual provided with the aircraft as well.

  9. Facebook the means of communication..? Uhm ok sure...

And yet, PMDG posted this update, amongst many others on Facebook first. Indeed much of the most up to date flight sim news arrives on Facebook before forums, if it gets posted to forums at all. My own Facebook flight sim group counts amongst it's members, some of the top X-Plane payware developers, all of whom contribute directly with the community.

  10. And another XP addon which is only looks nice but without system depth.....even if you put together all XP airplane addons you won´t get even one  fully accurate plane

Thought we had got over this infantile sim bashing. I come to AVSIM for the maturity of the comments. To see a comment like this, bashing five years of work that is being provided for free, is really rather sad.

  11. Hehe...

Ses, do you also own the SaaB 340 ? If so, how do you like it ?

It's been on my to-buy list for more than a year. Knowing the work by Goran is usually a result of love and dedication, and skills put togetrher to give us great add-ons, like the dc-3 I bought early after XpX's release, I believe it must be really good ?

I have owned the Saab virtually from day one. For me it is still the very best plane in X-Plane. I don't have the airfoils lab Cessna yet but I rate it above the FF767 (I know they are very different) I think the best way to describe it is that it has real character.

  12. I'm not sure what the controversy is. Haven't a lot of FSX videos, including product promotional ones, used the same techniques?

I think the issue is that a lot of people, especially newcomers strive to get that quality of graphics with reasonable frame rates because they think its achievable. They spend a lot of money on upgrades trying to chase the dream and end up sadly disappointed. A little more honesty would be preferable in this types of videos or maybe that would reduce the number of Youtube visitors and it's associated revenue flow.

  13. It seems to me to be quite an ambiguous statement.

"Dovetail Games is pleased to announce we will be partnering with Orbx Simulation Systems in order to bring key aspects of their technology to Flight School and Flight Simulator"

Does that mean as part of the default scenery included in the price or as a payware DLC that will work with DTG's sims. Could be read either way to me,
