  1. Check out Sim-Savvy. It is photo scenery for all the U.S. except Alaska. www.sim-savvy.com
  2. That's right, Mike. I have the upgraded N.E. states on a 1 TB hard drive (plus the original 48 states on another 1 TB deive) and just click on the states I want at any given time. I'm waiting for the total upgrade--I sent Larry a drive and it should be back to me any day now. My question above was if Frank actually has Sim-Savvy--it looks like he is just using FSX default because it sounds like he's saying he's running it on around 250 GB. I know he has a tremendous system, but I don't see how he can be running Sim-Savvy on 250 GB, unless he just disables/ables each state like we all do. If he is using Sim-Savvy, then he had to get it like everybody else, on a 1.5 or 2 TB hard drive. Rick
  3. Frank,Are you running Sim-Savvy photo scenery on your system? This thread is about Sim-Savvy, so it's a bit confusing. If Sim-Savvy needs at least 1.5 TB, how does 253 GB run it? If you ARE using Sim-Savvy, how did you transfer it to your 1/2 TB SSD, since it only comes on a 2TB drive? Rick
  4. Good news! Larry's website: sim-savvy.com is back on-line! Thanks, Larry.Sim-savvy takes about 2 TB, so I don't understand how a 480GB drive could handle 49 states....am I missing something? Each state takes up to 20 GB. Am I right in assuming that 'fbass' is referring to just FSX and the default scenry? I think mad dog is right--way too small.Rick
  5. I noticed that 4 or 5 people on this forum mentioned that they had 'planned' on getting Sim-Savvy. That may be some of the problem. No doubt, there were lots of people that thought about it, or had it on a wish list but didn't order it. Now that it appears to be over, there is some regret. So, hopefully, there is still a market for the scenery. Perhaps someone with the equipment could pick up where Larry left off and continue it, with Larry's permission and blessing, of course. Sim-Savvy is a very complicated program is not for your everyday gamer. It really is ideal for pilots, or pilots in training. So, the market is limited in number already. So, a different approach may be in order--flash drives for the desired states, for example. Through all of this however, please put yourself in Larry's position. He invented something that most of us thought could never happen. He opened up a whole new world of simulator flying. What a thrill when we opened it and flew over our house! We should be forever grateful to Larry for getting this 'off the ground'. His postings here indicate that he wants people to get what they paid for. The logistics right now are difficult, but I am confident that Larry will make good to those who have already paid him. Please be patient and work with him. He's hurting right now and needs our support. Rick
  6. Thanks, Greg! Since I really don't know what I'm doing, I'll just leave it the way it is. It works fine, I just thought having the scenery come in focus sooner would be good, but I certainly can live with the way it is. If there was just an extremely small chance that I could screw it up, I would. Thanks for the good advice.Rick
  7. To meshman:I would like to try this change, but not familiar with how to do it. Any chance you could do a step-by-step instruction? Where do I go to find FSX.cfg file: LOD_RADIUS=4.500000? And, can I mess up the whole program if I fiddle with it?Thanks.Rick
  8. Turner 112: To the best of my knowledge, Sim Savvy isn't using satellite photos. There is some division line visible between some of the states, but nothing like seen on that link you provided. I notice a little blue tinge on some states, but nothing major, certainly nothing to prevent using it. It is absolutely incredible. Another thing that might help, in case you haven't checked it out. There is a much better active forum at www.simsavvy.com (that's the official site). All the way over on the right you'll see 'Sim Savvy Form'. You may get a better response on that one. Rick
  9. No night textures on Sim Savvy. Just go to Global Scenery and disable the state you are flying in. The default will provide the night lights, etc. Also, UTX is a great program for night flying as well as roads and traffic. That program also works well when using Sim Savvy.
  10. Hi Blade, I push all the settings all the way to the right. Doesn't affect the FPS. I'm running a i7 chip, so each system will perform differently. Rick
  11. For what it's worth--Taylor Newport has photo scenery of most of Hawaii (all except the Big Island and Oahu). Mega Scenery has Oahu. To me, it's no big deal, and I hope I speak for others that it's OK you couldn't get Alaska and Hawaii. What you are doing is so far ahead of the industry, that this is extremely minor. Just keep doing what you are doing and forget about those states....when available, fine.Rick
  12. Just installed Ultimate Terrain and GEX. Small airports appear on top of roads and subdivisions. Please help.
  13. I just installed the Newport Maui scenery, despite some of the reviews. I found it to be very good. Since it is based on photography, you'll find some low level fog over a section of Kahului and other places. The info that came with the program indicated that it is best viewed at 3,000 feet. Try a flight over Mt. Haleakula, especially at sunrise. Incredible!! All the buildings, trails, science complex are there and the actual crater is perfect. Lahaina is also incredible. Perhaps there will be photo updates later, but right now it is as good as it can get. Also recommend the Landclass North America program. I'm running an i7 in the motherboard and can max all the settings, so this could be a factor in why it runs and looks so realistic. I've spent a lot of time in Maui and flown over the islands frequently, and the Newport Maui program is excellent.
