FSX Perf with SSD
Jlebesis replied to BeaconSlash's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcWill definately check out that link..Cheers! By all the right tweaks, I mean things like editing the .CFG file, to utilise your multi-core processor and GPU memory as best it can. You are right about differences being small, but that's what makes all the difference to me. I used clouds as an example, when those things were rolling past in highly detailed REX 2.0 weather, with I mean hardly a noticable micro stutter..the environment begins to feel incredibly real, and a good sensation of flying through the clouds develops. So yes, we can argue that the differences on different systems are small or vary (which is a good point) though its those little things and attention to detail that make things flow. It's like that with anything :) The whole 'near enough is good enough' thing doesn't keep us moving forward. So..If people are happy at the end of the day, that's great. But its a real sense of pride and acheivement when you take the time to learn your system and tweak it, and yes, shell out for some expensive investments (SSD) to put the icing on the cake. That's all it is..icing on the cake..And I love not waiting for load time in FSX :) Thanks for the reply guys, some really great points you all make, and I humbly admit that although I've been into computers and Flight sims for many years, there is always more for me to learn Much appreciated! FSX Perf with SSD
Jlebesis replied to BeaconSlash's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcHey guys, I actually find it incredible that there are actually people out there who voted 'No' that an SSD wouldn't benefit FSX. These people have not used one. Period. I purchased mine a month ago, and never has fsx run so smoothly. Blurries gone, load times are so much shorter..and the biggest surprise of all, the general game play, for example REX 2.0 clouds etc whilst in flight would just go past so smooth with hardly a visible stutter. Also understand I was running a great system and had researched heavily and performed all the right tweaks. Providing you put in some time to tweak your system, then an SSD can't not add to your performance! It makes sense..anyone who is still questioning this..just watch your HDD light as you fly through fsx, especially in built up areas.. An ssd removes the need for fsx to be slowed because the mechanical drive is searching the relevant sectors. One other pleasant side effect was recording with fraps.. again so much smoother as usually what causes stutters in fraps is the write speed of the HDD trying to get it written down. I know it's not the only factor.. But I was shocked when I saw how smoothly FRAPS was recording on the SSD drive. (Again, make sure you are using fraps properly and select the correct frame rates for your system..you can have a mind-blowingly good system and still have fraps run like crap because of poor setup. I know this because I had made this mistake ) :) Hope this gives everyone an un-biased view on SSD's. There are too many people here voting 'NO' simply because they don't own one, or are put off by the price. All the best, and happy landings to all :) John Love this Zak, It's exactly what I point out to friends who are curious about the sim, who aren't gamers. It can be so much more than just a game or sim. It really is a true 'Simulator', and I used it to practice nav exercised when I was doing my real-world training. I hope your flight training in the real world and on the sim are going great for you :) John

VIDEO of managing drag during Approach
Jack, this is greatly appreciated. Thank's for the info, and coming from someone who it sounds, does this for a living! :) If that's the case..I very much envy your job. Has been a dream of mine since I was a child. All the best,John

NGX Fuel load and management.
Hi guys, I know that there is going to be a plethora of topics on the NGX as people get used to and sort through bugs and things they just simply need help with..but I have one I hope to be fairly straight forward! Since I loaded the aircraft..under the 'PMDG' menu along the top bar of FSX while flying, I have lost all the sub-heading for fuel load, panel states etc. I may be missing something...And I will double check..perhaps its on the FMS? Sorry if it's an obvious answer, can't seem to find it that's all..help would be greatly appreciated! Loving this airplane! John

CONGRATULATIONS PMDG and STAFF!
Haha, Very nice! I will do, Im just taking it from YMAV where I do all my intial flights, and Im happy that I'm getting awesome frames ;) All that tweaking pays off! Yep, I can see that I will keep discovering great things about this model as time goes. Sounds amazing too...:)ps, I forgot to ask, can someone point me in the right direction regarding how to install that add on liveries? Is it just a matter of popping it into the correct folder? The folder downloaded comes with one file. Thanks! :) John

CONGRATULATIONS PMDG and STAFF!
Thank Jason, It's greatly appreciated.. As much as I'm so excited to fly this thing, I think it's nice to remember how hard people have worked to get this product happening. Have a great day! John

CONGRATULATIONS PMDG and STAFF!
Hi guys, I am still only in the process of downloading the new NGX...very excited as many are around the world I am sure! (Was even more excited to find all the up to date Australian liveries like Virgin Australia etc!) Just wanted to say it has been a long journey, and a long wait on the customers side, but being a PMDG product, we all knew it would be worth it, and the staff stayed true to the promise and we have it in the time frame they announced last week. So, a big congratulations to another fine product, and I am sure once I've actually flown it, that I will want to post again and rant on about it :) Hope you guys have a well-earned beer on us.. And happy flying to everybody out there! All the best, and a warm hello to PMDG fans all around the world from here in Australia! Kind Regards,John

Countdown T-MINUS for NGX :)
Lol nice one Matthias! If PMDG takes any longer than promised on this release..I think you should start bulk-selling and shipping those paper planes! ;)

PMDG 737NGX Vs. Ariane 737-900er
Hi Marco, I am going to give a very unbiased opinion, as I also have owned the Ariane 737. In short, PMDG products far outweigh Ariane or anyone out there. Ariane make setup and installation an absolute nightmare as I'm sure you have already found out... the fact that they make you guess when the setup email will arrive is beyond a joke. If they can make a whole aircraft, and have a whole company devoted to that, they should at the very least provide the paying customer with an easy to install, SINGLE file. I purchased their product a couple of years ago, and to this day, have never flown it with a functioning virtual cockpit..because I could never get it working..and I am a very patient person. The plane does look and sound nice..lots of fun, but I won't be purchasing anything from them again. Looking forward to this release of the 737 though...I really hope PMDG stick by the dates they gave ;) I'm in Australia, and according to the post last week, it should be available by around tomorrow! All the best to all and happy flying! John

VATEUR celebrates 10 years VATSIM
Hi! Just wanted to stop by and wish you a very Happy and belated Birthday! :) I hope there are many more years to come. I have'nt flown on VATSIM for some time now. I want to, though unfortunately, there are still so many headaches just to install the programs and get them working. Its a shame that after so many years, a simple way has not been found to get people flying online together. The gaming world has been revolutionized with online games, simulation, and playing. All at the touch of a button. Yet, here with flight simulation, it is a process just to get online, for example with a Virtual Airline. And even experienced simmers like myself can't get it working half the time, and give up. I believe we would have many more people flying online if it was a little more trouble - free. I know at least 8 friends and people who will not go back online due to the trouble...and believe me, they are very patient people and have tried everything! Sorry for the rant. This is definately not just aimed at VATSIM :) I love the work you all have put in, and love how far simulation has come since the first time I played a flight sim back when I was very young. Though I truly hope that people will read these words and consider it for a moment. Especially here in Australia. I sometimes sign in to 'VROUTE' to see who may be online flying, and it really makes me sad, seeing how few people are on :( Its really tragic . Lets all see how we can possibly work together to solve this. All the best! John
