  1. Oh no, these sorts of posts ruin my social life. Ive tweaked my config file every which way, run the specs shown in my profile and still dont get 30fps locked in all areas with add-on planes, only in the defaults. Seattle, for instance, absolutely kills my frames. I feel a tweaking session coming on.... Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
  2. I think you've got a point here, and we ought to remember that we're now pushing FSX past the limits which it was orignally designed for. However, even at stock, graphics look so much better with a few tweaks. I also think you'd notice a very big improvement in frames if you ran them, even if stock settings give you acceptable performance.
  3. I really enjoyed this, so much so that I sat up far too late watching it and want to fall asleep at work today. The chap with the frizzy hair who was an electrical engineer inexpiclably annoyed me though, I had to kind of block him out when he was on. Not sure why he aggravated me so much, otherwise great programme!
  4. I'm sure you're right, I tried it on Orbx PNW and it was definitely happening there. However, I still get the flashing textures on Aerosoft Corfu X, and I had a nagging feeling their scenery is DX10 compatible? EDIT:- Curious (again!) I took the Robinson for a short hover around the default Edward's AFB, and I still get the blue flashing. Very weird, and as I say a shame as all other aspects seem to work fine. I do have a ton of other CFG tweaks though so it could be any one of these causing the flashing, I might have a play about at some point but I'm not holding my breath! :-) Vsync works for me in DX10 by simply forcing it on in Nvidia Control Panel. I haven't seen any tearing since - I also have the vsync fix in my cfg file. It wasn't working before I forced it in NVCP though, even with the vsync cfg tweak.
  5. You made me curious, and I tried DX10 again (don't know why, I'm such a fool!). It's a bit misleading to say I suffer from a "plethora" of issues with it though. With all of Steve's fixes applied, the only issue which remains is a flashing blue texture which pops up all over my ground textures. So near, and yet so far, as it's ridiculously annoying. If anyone ever fixes this, I'd turn on DX10 without looking back.
  6. My advice would be to stay away from it. It was never fully developed into the sim by the original dev team and therefore will only really work with default aircraft/scenery a lot of the time. It's a real shame, as for me it increases the performance of the sim exponentially, but I've not yet found a way of enabling it and not running into problems. There's a guy looking into some of the issues here:- http://stevesfsxanalysis.wordpress.com/ however even after applying his (pretty amazing) fixes, I'm still faced with a plethora of issues. If it's working fine for you, go ahead and use it, but I feel when you start installing addons you'll be forced to turn it off fairly quickly.
  7. Wow, this also looks great. This is going to be a tough choice.... Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
  8. This looks absolutely fantastic and just what I'm looking for, pity it's going to be a while. Thanks to both of you, think it'll have to be the FWI scenery to start out with.
  9. Hi all, I'm slowly but surely building up my scenery colleciton within FSX, and one area I'd really like to cover is the Canary Islands. I'm a big fan of this gorgeous place, and have considered moving there in the past, so I'd love to do some low-level sightseeing over the islands (especially Lanzarote, exploring Timanfaya by air would be awesome) and fly short hops from Spanish/North African airfields. The only piece of scenery I can find is Fly Wonderful Islands Canary Islands, which has five of the airports in the region, but I'm not sure if this is what I'm looking for. Does anyone have this scenery and could offer comments? Does it include landclass/mesh for the whole of the islands, or just the areas around the airports? Also, can anyone point me in the direction of any decent payware or freeware alternatives out there? Many thanks, James
  10. I think you've hit on an interesting point. I have the Steam version and had to log on to my gamertag on live (couldn't even remember it, it's been about 3 years since I've played any Xbox), and "purchase" the product before I could even access all of the free content. I think, if I remember correctly, I found out how to do this here. It certainly wasn't on any microsoft websites/forums, and I too had endless issues when trying to purchase DLCs. The process was ridiculously convoluted and I think if I hadn't had experience with GFWL and it's "foibles" previously I might have simply given up and/or raged to flight customer support. I wonder how the inclusion of GFWL has impacted on people's willingness to pay for new DLC, or even to experience the full free content and therefore make a decision to purchase more? One thing I do hope, with all my heart, is that this will signal the deathknell of GFWL as a platform. If that happens even in part due to Flight's demise, I don't think I could ask for a bigger silver lining.
  11. I guess you're right, and I did love the fact that you could fire it up with no tweaking and no fuss. Over time, I think the product could have become something really special, and while many will argue about it's depth, no-one can deny that the game engine was absolutely fantastic. Sad day all round.
  12. Personally, I'm really bummed to hear this. I haven't really touched flight for a while, but it was exciting to think about what it could have become, and I was willing to support it if quality content was made available. Unfortunately, the content was rather too little, and too infrequent to hold my interest, even though I did buy the full Hawaii and Alaksa packs. To be honest, I don't really think there's a "casual" sim market, people either like this sort of thing or they don't, so I never really got why they thought dialing down the complexity was a good idea. Anyway, best wishes to the Flight team, I hope they're able to find something else quickly.
  13. It's tough to help you out from what you've posted. If you go to c:\program files(x86)\Microsoft games\flight simulator x can you find and run fsx.exe? Please also post your full system specs, including your os version. I'm a little unsure about what you mean when you say the second disk won't run, can your drive read the disk at all? 14. I'm having a lot of fun so far with the C90b. I would agree that Carenado's documentation is a bit scant, though, so it's taking some time to learn the bird's characteristics. It certainly is a looker, that's for sure..
  15. Just wanted to thank you both for your replies, they were really helpful. It turns out that Gen X gives you an option to install to any location, and isn't picky about being in the FSX folder on the main drive. After seeing how great this scenery looks, this is good news! Plenty of space to fill up.... B)
  16. Hi all, First up I just want to say hi to everyone, this is my first post here but I've been "lurking" in the forums for a little while and this seems like a great community. I'm fairly to new to FSX having graduated here from several combat flight sims and have been a PC gamer all my life, already I'm hooked and I think I'll be around for some time. One thing I will say is, this is an expensive hobby! Already I've spent more money than I have done on any other "game", but I don't mind supporting developers who create products with such depth and realism. The Lancair Legacy I bought as my first add-on plane (and learnt about here) is just stunning. Anyway, in the spirit of economy I noticed that the Horizon Gen X VFR scenery was on sale at Flightstore so being a Kent boy born and bred, I took the plunge and ordered the Southern England and South Wales set. I've noticed the installation will probably run to about 30gb, and while I could comfortably fit this onto my 256gb SSD which FSX (and other addons) are installed on, if I'm to expand my collection of scenery I'm going to run up against space issues at some point. It occurs to me therefore that it might be an idea to install this and any subsequent photographic scenery to my seperate (internal) 1TB HDD, which I'm not using for much right now apart from a download repository. The drive runs at 7200rpm and is SATA 3gbps so shouldn't have much of a problem RE read speeds, however I don't this for sure and I don't know whether it's even possible to crete a seperate scenery library outside of the default FSX folders. So my question is, is it possible to do this and still keep my main FSX files on the SSD, and if so how do I do it? Also, is doing this going to cause me a problem with texture loading? I'm guessing the texture files are quite large, so if I'm going to notice real slowdowns it might be worth considering another, larger SSD to run FSX + all addons/scenery from. I'm sorry if this has been covered before, I had a look through forums but couldn't find a definitive answer. Can anyone help me out? Many thanks all, James
