  1. Firehawk44 My sincere apologies to you and to all other forum members for spamming this issue several times. I was using an Apple ipad for the first time and was completely thrown by the totally different operating system. Basically I couldn't get the thing to work properly for me and the smaller screen didn't display the whole Avsim forum page as I am used to. Thus, I had little idea of what I was doing. After posting the thread initially, I couldn'e see it on the forum and thought the post had failed. This happened more than once and was the cause of all my posts. Once again, sincere apologies to all. Ron.
  2. When trying to uninstall FSX, the Control Panel uninstall tool couldn't manage the job due to a missing file. I therefore had to revert to Revo Uninstaller which did the job. However the FSX directory remained with all its files and folders. I managed to remove all of these with the exception of one named Font. This comtains various fonts used in the program, however I get the error message that they are also being used by "System" and therefore cannot be uninstalled. Can anyoine advise whar "System" is ? I can understand FSX perhaps relying on computer system files to work, but not the computer system needing FSX files. I'm now stuck with the FSX directory and this Font folder and its files until I can find a solution. Can anyone help ? Many thanks Ron
  3. I'm trying to remove FSX but am left with a folder named Font. The uninstall tool in Control Panel has removed the program but not the files and folders within FSX itself. I've been able to remove all of these except for the one named Font which contains files files which are being used by " System" What is System ? I can imagine FSX needing the computer system files for some reason, but not the system needing FSX files. Can anyone help. Ron
  4. I am in the process of uninstalling fix due to corrupted file. The program repair option has not corrected the problem, so I'm starting from scratch with a new installation on a different drive. The problem is that the program removal tool in Control Panel has removed the program, but all the files and folders remain in the directory. I can remove all of thes with the exception of one folder named Font. Problem is that files within this folder are being used with "System" and it won't allow me to delete. What "System" can it be referring to ? I can understand font files in System being needed by FSX, but not the other way round. Can anyone tell me what this System is, and how I can get this folder removed. Thanks. Ron
  5. Johannvr, Thanks for that. I couldn't find the files anywhere, so I explored and discovered another way to solve this issue. Let's suppose a flight from London Heathrow to Johannesburg - EGLL to FAJS. Complie the flight in FS Commander as normal and save the file - EGLLFAJS01. When saving make sure the PMDG export box is checked. This will export the file to the PMDG folder within FSX. Navigate to FSX>PMDG>Flightplans and find EGLLFAJS01.rte Right click and rename the file EGLLFAOR.rte. Double click the file and open with Notepad or a similar program. Scroll to the entry fajs and rename faor. Save the fie. Now we have a flightplan in FS Commander which that porgram will display as FAJS, and the PMDG FMC will accept the plan EGLLFAOR01 when entered as the Company Route. Perhaps not the most accurate way to do it, but it's free, and it works. Obviously, Durban (FADN) is now closed, with a new airport (FALE) 60 klicks to the north, but for my flight sim purposes, I don't mind the error. Having said all that, since I fly to these two regularly, I think the investment in getting the downloads you mentioned is worthwhile. Other, less important airports for me, I can deal with by the method explained. Anyway, may I thank you all for your help with this issue. Have a great time expolring the skies !! Ron
  6. Guys I've carried out searches for both Johannesburg and Durban AFCAD files in both Avsim, Flightsim as well as other other library file sites. Both Avsim and Flightsim have Johannesburg, but only as FAJS, and neither have AFCAD file for Durban that my searches could find. Would someone be kind enough to point me to an AFCAD library that has the correct updated files ? Apologies for being such a pain, but I simply cannot find the files to use in what you say is such a simple exercise. Ron
  7. Guys, Many thanks to you all. I'll have to carry out what you say and see how it goes. Never had to do it before, so I'm not sure how to proceed, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. Ron
  8. Guys, Many thanks for your replies. I take on board what you say and agree that FSC should get updated with the release of each Navigraph Airac cycle. Just for the record, my FSC is version 9.5.1 and I have Airac 1412 Rev 2 installed. This is current from Nov. 13th through to Dec. 12th. and should therefore show the Johannesburg change. However it is still showing as FAJS in FS Commander. Another exmple is Durban, FADN, and now disused. The new airport is King Shaka, FALE, but this is not shown in either FSX or FSC, only the old FADN. I cannot understand why.
  9. Hi, Can anyone tell me the easiest way to change FSX ICAO codes to make them compatible with PMDG fmc database codes loaded from Navigraph. I use FS Commander as my flight planner and as you may know it gets its airport data from FSX. Unfortunately, since FSX is an old program, and since a few airports - notably African ones - have changed their airport ICAO codes, the PMDG fmc is unable to recognise the old ones. Thus any flight plan compiled in FS Commander and exported to PMDG will not be recognised. A typical example is Johannesburg which until 2012 used to be FAJS. Now it is FAOR. The only way I know to overcome this is to manually enter the plan into the fmc waypoint by waypoint. Is there a better way ? Ron.
  10. lincrun, You're absolutely correct. I was completely forgetting to switch off the autopilot before turn-off onto the taxiway. Flying too many Boeings !! Many thanks for your solution. Ron
  11. Tamsini, Thanks for that. I never thought to unplug the Saitek. I'll certainly give that a try and see what happens. Ron
  12. Hi, I loaded the MD11 (fsx version) some time ago and all went well until recently, when I suffered a complete loss of joystick control on landing. I'm using the Saitek X52 Pro. The MD11 constantly now slews to the right as soon as I turn off onto the taxiway and is difficult to control properly with the joystick as more than just a touch of excessive corrective input causes a severe slew to the left as well. As a result I'm heading down the taxiways like a drunken duck. In an effort to cure this, I removed the plane, removed fsx and re-installed both, but the problem persists after every flight now, and both the software and drivers have been updated from the Saitek site. The problem does not appear with any other aircraft including the PMDG 747 or 777 - only with the MD11. I would be extremely grateful if anyone could help with this as it's driving me nuts. Ron
  13. Sorry guys - you're right. It's a new sim for me and I was getting ahead of myself. Here's hoping I remember to drop the wheels before landing !! Ron
  14. Hi, I have recently loaded the PMDG 737NGX package but cannot get the parking brake to release. The brake warning stays on my screen whether I try to release with my joystick, by pressing the period key or even if using the throttle quadrant park brake lever. The program will not allow me pushback, therefore I simply cannot fly. All help appreciated. Thanks Ron
  15. Jim, Many thanks for your reply. I'll try closing the program as you suggest, but to go through all the hassle of removing add on aircraft, removing fsx, then windows and re-installing again isn't worth the bother. I can live with it. Ron
