  1. So I'm scheming a 8700k 5.2ghz upgrade. With a Volta card, where would the bottleneck be? Those with the 1080ti, did the bottleneck move to the GPU?
  2. Wow!!1 http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/nvidia-titan-v-graphics-card-benchmarks.html https://hothardware.com/news/leaked-nvidia-titan-v-benchmarks-volta-gpu-demolishing-competitors https://wccftech.com/nvidia-titan-v-volta-gaming-benchmarks/
  3. Spring 2018. Could be earlier. Based on how much better claims are they will be it will probably be with much fanfare before CES, like Kepler.
  4. Congratulations! I'm considering the same upgrade, only keeping my 780 SLI until Volta is released. Thus, I am wondering what your CPU core and GPU usage is at, where the bottleneck is. Does the CPU still bottleneck your GPU? The 780 SLI is comparable to a little better than a 980ti or less than a 1070, or even with a Titan X.
  5. I can judge distances accurately in VR for aligning with the runway for downwind legs. I can turn my head to see when I should turn. Although it's not 4k in the FOV in the Pimax 4k, by turning my head It is effectively a great many times 4k if I divide the arc my head can turn to with the arc of the FOV, and multiply, both vertically and horizontally. If you have head tracking in prepar3d with the 4k tv you may get the same sense. And the colors, brightness, and black level is not going to compare in the Pimax. For sure. I have 5760 x 1080, I know how nice a wide view can be. And I have solved the stretching in the peripherie. But I have a hard time going back to it now.
  6. In January there is going to be the release of 200 Degree FOV headset. They add on their own technology to increase perceived framerates, which is basically alternating eyes every other frame. I have a Pimax 4k (BE Model). The 4k model uses a 4k screen to eliminate the screen door effect seen in other VR headsets, and inputs at 2560x1440. The new model they are releasing is has 2560x1440 input per eye onto 2 UHD/4k screens, and increases the FOV from 100 to 200, as well as a vertical FOV that encompasses the entire vertical FOV. I've made some posts in the thread I linked to below about it. mostly video reviews by VR early adopters; they are very favorable. I am fairly happy with my BE model; I can maintain a smooth 25-30 fps on crappy old hardware, mostly photoscenery over a nice mesh and AS16/ASCA ... beautiful. Pimax states that their aim is for the flight simulator community. I cannot think of a more perfect person for them to get a production model to than Rob Ainscough, and I've written them an email stating so. I doubt I have enough leverage with either party to brokerage that deal. But I do believe that the Pimax 8k will be the frontrunner in VR in the next coming years. And if it's going to be put to through its paces, configured, and be validated it for Prepar3d Rob would be a good choice.
  7. Nice (Only enough time to post here, but I don't know where to)
  8. Edit: Much of what I typed got eaten by the editior or my error. Not going to retype this moment. Here is what was left ...... This is actually their strength, they do in fact have connections with the manufacturers in China In The Same City The Iphone Is Made to do whatever they need to do very quickly. But they are trying to keep prices down, not cheapen the product. Eventually they are going to have 4k OLED screens at a true 4k each, but there are no systems that can really run that configuration at this time. They are offering a 5k OLED, 2 x 2.5 screens, for those that want it, for a very reasonable price. I have a Pimax BE model, which is identical to the 4k model, but with a 2.5 OLED screen. It is brighter and more responsive than the 4k model. Reviewers have said that the screen in the 8k model is now comparable to a vive or rift in color and brightness quality. However none of them will compare to a nice 4k monitor in quality; they are trying to span the entire field of vision with 2 4k screens, not just 1 on a much smaller FOV where the number of pixels per arc degree will be much higher. For example, I cannot even see pixels on a 1080 screen at 2 feet. You will still be able to see if you really chose to see a pixel on a 4k screen at .5 inches magnified on 1 eye, but many say they don't. And the 4k screens in the size used in a Pimax are not as well developed in color quality yet as a full size monitor or TV, and does not have HDR (neither does P3D). I wonder if it would be a good idea, if the would be willing to send Rob a model to review once they get them shipping.

  10. Excuse me, But I'm not known to spam here. I am giving as much information to this forum about it as I can, so you can make an informed decision. With another username (which I didn't return to after a hiatus, and forgot I even had an account under another [prestigious] email) I have been a member here since it's beginnings, so I am a very familiar with how things are done here. It's sad to me you are asking about VR experience and the person here with perhaps the most experience following VR technology and in Prepar3d is giving advice and you're blowing it off as spam instead of asking questions. Since you're a beginner in VR, the Oculus is a good choice for the price now. You may not be able to use it optimally (read the gauges, see the airport in the distance) for Prepar3d, but you will learn much with it about VR and have a satisfactory experience in many other games.
  11. These guys are a little more informed, but still not enlightened.
  12. As I have said. I've had a Pimax 4k since March. I am an experienced developer with decades experience, and their developers are very fast and responsive to their early adopters (#1 thing to look for in a software company). They are opening up to as many add-ons as possible for future proofing. I've been right about other things here, and I've been paid to pick out companies in the past for investors. And their declared intention is to pease the flight simulator community first. I have been looking for a solid sprout VR company for a LONG time. This is it.
  13. These guys are more gamers than technicians. So they haven't been following Pimax. Their dates are off as they understand; Pimax 8k will start delivering in January, and they are Already over $4,000,000 in Kickstarter, blowing away Oculus Kickstarter. Pimax needs to make about 5,000 8k headsets in order to meet January delivery, but they already have experience in production and distribution with their 8k version. To think that Pimax is an offshoot is word not allowed (rhymes with pignorant). Pimax is headquartered in Shenzen China, which is China's Silicon Valley, where you go to make electronics, and nobody works better with the Chinese than the Chinese, and they already have many partners in this. Also, China has actually declared VR as an important part of their Governments plan for the technology sector (with a rumor of 3 billion investing in a new city based on VR technology, I haven't confirmed). Like I said, they're just gamers.
  14. The 8k version will output to 1440 per eye, which is 2.5k, but upscale to 4k.
  15. I am considering taking the plung and getting into the Kickstarter tonight on the 8k. They will start shipping in January.
  16. Yes, FlyInside does work with it. Pimax drivers emulate the Vive drivers, and so you get the Vive version. As it is you must have FlyInside for a smooth experience. What they do for P3D can't be left out. I can get a very good resolution, pretty clear guages, OK distance if I up the LOD. But I bring it down a bit because of my aged system. If your hardware is 2 years or newer you should be OK. It doesn't send a 4k signal to the headset. The 4k is really to eliminate screen door effect. The actual resolution is IIRC 2560×1440, and then upscaled (no jaggies).
  17. I don't know why movement is so controversial and considered a barrier. We all got very used to joysticks and sedf for moving and not it's second nature, but it sure isn't natural. I think people are being spoiled and I'd be willing to bet something simple will be accepted quickly without all the teleporting nonsense.
