  1. Sorry to post another message on that plane crash yesterday in the UK, but here's the latest....... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-33745057 .
  2. It sounds as if the pilot of this Phenom 300 jet overshot the runway then crashed into a car auction park full of cars.. RiP. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-surrey-33736685
  3. Interesting. Good shot I'm surprised some crazy pilot hasn't had a go at landing a microlight or a Cessna on that park as a protest vote ;-) .
  4. Fondly remembered by both virtual and real-life pilots, I propose a toast to Meigs Field. RiP (unless of course you've downloaded the scenery addon and are still flying there?? ;-) .. "Merrill C. Meigs Field Airport was a single strip airport that operated from December 1948 until March 2003. It was built on Northerly Island, the human-made peninsula..." MSFS - 2006 video... 727 Landing Meigs Field (old wobbly video footage but still a gem) RiP
  5. Indeed. I just found it amusing when the obviously paper/cardboard helmet was removed, and an 'escaping air' sound effect was dubbed over the rustling paper sound ;-) https://youtu.be/l4TC5wl0IzE?t=3128
  6. Yes, a short film made in UE4 and entered for the Sploid Film Festival.. Quote: "Kite is a short animation film directed by Gavin Moran. It starts off as a simple tale of a boy playing with a kite that happens to have a mind of its own and ends satisfyingly with a lesson about being happy in life (or about just giving up!). The animation was rendered in real time using EPIC’s Unreal Engine 4 to show off its power ..but the story of the boy and his kite might be more remarkable". http://sploid.gizmodo.com/a-boy-letting-go-of-his-kite-is-a-metaphor-for-love-and-1719819180 Interesting how they made it work so well........ Quote: "...we did some sculpting ourselves to make some of the rocks and mountains more aesthetically pleasing. But the vast majority of this project was created in a quite interesting way. We’ve downloaded US Geological Survey Data and imported the heights data from the US Geological Maps...". http://80.lv/articles/epic-changed-open-world/ PS: Is this the cheesiest ever (cardboard) space suit helmet ;-). StarTrek..... https://youtu.be/l4TC5wl0IzE?t=3128 .
  7. Better in slow motion maybe
  8. -_- No. Not funny. But I read your profile.
  9. Lighten up a bit. Note the smiley after the word 'Sherlock' ..it denotes a light-hearted jest. I wouldn't read any more into it. Thanks but I've no need to locate earlier posts on my old accounts any more than I feel a need to recall correspondence from previous incarnations. Life's too short.. Perhaps in my next 'life' I should come back as anon. ;-) < I've nothing to hide, search me! ;-). I mean, it's not as if I won 'the gaff of the year award' by posting a video of a young teenager and family getting badly knocked about and injured, and then publicly proclaimed that it was The funniest thing i have seen in a good while...... . .
  10. Thanks again, Jim...and Bill. Aka:.... .Flyer09, Fly09, Toowings, PropheadX etc ;-) PS: I seem to recall that when I created the Flyer09 account some months ago: it stalled half-way through, so I created the Fly09 one instead, or vice versa. I dunno ;-)
  11. Yes Carl was 'the man'. Not a sci-fi short this one, more of a 'flight' animation video...... https://youtu.be/0jiHuParonM
  12. Well done Sherlock ;-).. But its hardly rocket science since I declared my old username each time. But perhaps I wanted to create a new account every once in a while. Perhaps like many on this forum I can become quite addicted to Avsim to the extent that I spend rather an unhealthy amount of time here when I could be doing more useful things in the real world. Perhaps I therefore forget my account details every so often as a means to escape this time-consuming addiction for a few weeks, months, or even years. .I'm certainly impressed that you're an official Topic Starter and have held the same account here since 2003 and amassed 4,659 posts..and counting.. But to be honest I dont personally want to get sucked into flight-simming or flight forums to that extent anymore -where I hardly have a life outside and spend most of my online time in trivial pursuits reading and replying to posts ad-infinitummm. So perhaps I press the abort button every so often to escape that cycle of addiction that sadly so many of us are caught up in nowadays, and walk out into the fresh air ;-) .
  13. Well I don't personally own or play GTA, but as you know, I've posted numerous videos on the forum here to try and contrast GTA's interactive real-world physics with our current flight-sims' lack of collision detection etc..
  14. . Good thread. I quite enjoy watching fan made movies online, especially sci-fi / time travel themes. Its amazing how much detail amateurs can throw into a short sometimes. 'Time Trap' for example (on youtube) is one excellent example, and this simple little film here is quite atmospheric (pardon the pun) >>>>.
  15. Yes, due to technical problems, as I mentioned in another post.
  16. Certainly loading much faster nowadays than say a year or two ago..
  17. Ok. So does that mean that when you've watched clips of children and adults in Auschwitz that you also didn't feel any sympathy for them and didn't care? The 'point' is in determining how much compassion and empathy we have for our fellow human beings here on planet earth as we orbit around the sun. Thats the litmus test. If we have little or no compassion for others then we will tend to laugh at others' misfortunes and not see ourselves in their shoes if they are hurt or suffering, and vice versa. Its a natural thing. It can also be an age thing. I'd say compassion grows with age and life experience from say 25 years onwards. Your analogy about the vegetarian liking dark comedy is a different issue since comedy is a fiction. What we're talking about is watching real people in real trouble and why some people should find that funny. For example, the enclosed video features a scooter rider who escapes with his life. To some this video might be hilarious, to others, including myself, it might be interesting from the point of view of survival and having escaped the wheels of death, and we are happy that the man survives. So in the overall scheme of things I guess it doesn't really matter if we laugh at this type of video or feel sorry for the victim/s,.or if teenagers on your block laugh at your relative falling down and breaking their arm. But its certainly a measure of our humanity and maturity whether we laugh or mock at the plight of others, or sympathise and have the ability to see ourselves in their position..... https://youtu.be/WliKUdROlUw (warning: graphic) Quote of the day ;-)... “I do not ask the wounded person how he feels, I myself become the wounded person.” ― Walt Whitman, .
  18. Yes I saw that. 'Einstein' obviously found the speedboat accident 'hilarious', then he went on to suggest that the occupants should have been 'buckled up'. Yet unless they.wore full body harnesses on racing-style seats (with head restraints) then the occupants would still have been tossed around like rag dolls but from the waist up. And should the boat have rolled over, as it almost did, then there could well have been drownings due to occupants' being trapped in their harnesses. ------------------------------ Comment...... "I saw this video yesterday. HILARIOUS!!!!! Those idiots SHOULD have been sitting down and buckled up if possible. Maybe then they would not have been tossed around like rag dolls!" I saw this video yesterday. HILARIOUS!!!!! Those idiots SHOULD have been sitting down and buckled up if possible. Maybe then they would not have been tossed around like rag dolls! I saw this video yesterday. HILARIOUS!!!!! Those idiots SHOULD have been sitting down and buckled up if possible. Maybe then they would not have been tossed around like rag dolls!
  19. Take my word for it. Jackass was a TV and movie series produced for profit and fronted by an insured stunt-performer.. Quote... "Philip John Clapp Jr., known by his stage name Johnny Knoxville (born March 11, 1971), is an American stunt performer, comedian, actor, screenwriter and film producer. He is best known as a co-creator and star of the MTV reality stunt show Jackass. Quote... "And while he's still doing stunts and pulling public pranks — like a blue-collar "Borat," only with better insurance — Knoxville also hopes his new, partly scripted movie, "Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa," opening Friday ..." But where do you draw the line when laughing at videos showing people suffering? Do you find it funny for example watching film-clips of bald headed skeleton children in Auschwitz awaiting the gas chamber? No, probably not. But if you did we'd obviously be justified in thinking that you had a cruel and uncaring streak in your character. This is an extreme example I know, but it depends where we draw the line.. Now lets say for example that a close member of your family (parent or sibling) fell in the street outside your house and broke an arm very badly, and lets say local teenagers were standing around taking videos of the event and howling with laughter at your relatives suffering. Would you join in the fun and laughter? or would you feel sympathy for your relative and disdain for those laughing at their suffering? Remember that it wasn't you who broke an arm, yet like any balanced person you'd naturally empathise with your family member's suffering. Likewise, its possible to feel sympathy for strangers (who are after all, members of your world family). Think about what would happen if the boat rolled over, as it almost did, and all the occupants were buckled in.
  20. There is an old saying: "He (she) who tries to justify does not convince". You say that nobody was 'really' hurt ..yet if you'd read the article that I posted a link to you'd know that the crash occurred at around 100mph and people were taken to hospital, one with broken bones. .so that person obviously didnt just "walk away" -but rather he would have been stretchered into an ambulance and laid up for months.. No you're right, it wasn't a car crash, but the powerful G-forces involved made it behave like one..and bones were broken and heads bashed. But 'Bob's yer uncle'. Its all fun and games to some.
  21. I dont think its 'tame' to see a young teenage girl of perhaps fourteen in obvious shock and pain being classed as 'funny'. Its different with police chases etc as you mostly don't see people in actual pain, and if you did the majority of balanced adults probably wouldn't find the situation 'funny'. But anyway, here's the low-down on the boat incident. Note that five of the occupants were taken to hospital, one with a broken leg and broken wrist ...and the driver of the boat was charged with a 'seating violation'.(obviously because the girl was standing and not seated). Also, the driver said he was doing around 70mph, but someone on-board reckoned it was more like 100mph. The footage was shot by a professional news cameraman who then uploaded it to Youtube etc. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/watch-wild-ride-water-takes-tragic-turn-missouri-article-1.1153132
  22. Maybe as a lesson to others never to drink and drive. Or as proof of how traumatic their experience was. . Fair point Jim. So what Poppet and a few others probably found funny about this video were the surreal animated antics of g-forces at work on human bodies and sunglasses. If the video had been edited not to show the obvious distress of the occupants then most people would have found the video amusing, perhaps even funny, but certainly not this end part..... https://youtu.be/EYX1rIe3SaQ?t=22
