Saving flight to avoid VAS OOM
I know how to save a flight, but when I do save a flight while flying the PMDG, my flight plan does not reload when I open this saved flight. The FMC is blank, the autopilot is switched off, and there is no way to activate my route again. Save flight only saves the position of the aircraft; it doesn't seem to save any of the flight information. Is there a way around this?

P3D v2.5 SLI test results, up 33%
4K doesn't need SLI at all, at least not on my system it doesn't. I'm running P3D at 4K with ORBX addons, payware airports, REX soft clouds, ASN and the PMDG aircraft. I have locked my FPS at 30 and this is what I get everywhere I go, even in the most detailed airports like Heathrow with ORBX England. This is with textures at 1080P and medium autogen. Any higher would cause an OOM. So, I don't see why you would want an FPS higher than 30 because then you're in OOM territory.

You shouldn't need to SLI in P3D at all. The problem is VAS consumption. You'd soon OOM if you maxed out your settings being cocky with SLI.

OOM issue at only 2.5GB VRAM
I've been testing my VRAM consumption in P3D using ORBX Global+England, Rex Soft Clouds, Aerosoft Heathrow and Aerosoft Airbus X. I start by taking off at Manchester, flying down the East coat of the UK to the Thames estuary. I noticed flying out to the ocean decreases my VRAM consumption. It went from around 2,000GB flying inland, to around 1.8Gb and decreasing the further I fly away from ORBX England scenery. I turned east, and fly down the Thames Estuary, and noticed that my VRAM quickly increased from 2,000 to 2,300GB. Before I reached London, P3D was OOM at only 2,500 GB used. I've done this route two times now, and both times this happens. I thought P3D had 4K to play with? Why the OOM so early? I couldn't even reach London with Heathrow in my sight!

I love P3D
Just got it up and running. Installed ORBX sceneries, 737 NGX, Rex soft clouds. I love the lighting effect and the ground shadows and how my cockpit gets darker and lighter depending on my direction and altitude. I love how smooth it runs - though I've locked FPS at 30. I love how the scenery doesn't come into focus as much as it does in FSX. Everything seems more stable and smooth. I have pretty much maxed out settings at 4k resolution. It is running like a dream on my SSD. I have waited so long for this day and it has come. (Not quite as smooth as X-plane) but not far off at all. I love it! Can't wait for 64 bit soon... I'm torn between X-Plane and P3D. If only the two could merge together, then we'd have the ultimate flight sim! The problem with X-plane is that, while the terrain MESH is far more realistic than FSX/P3D, the aircraft models look like plastic toys ( I don't think X-Plane has external reflections) The lighting and shadows in P3D really are its strength and my high end system handles them wonderfully... When I'm playing P3D, I feel like I should be playing X-Plane and vice versa. I can't settle myself to play just one. I'm always going back and forth between them, evaluating their strengths/weaknesses

Why do PMDG quote 8GB+ of RAM when P3D is 32 bit?
See here: https://www.precisionmanuals.com/pages/product/P3D/ngx8900.html They are suggesting 8GB+ RAM as their recommended requirements. As P3D is 32 bit, meaning it can make use of only 4GB RAM, why do they recommend 8GB+?

HIGHMEMFIX=1 does not appear to be in my FSX: SE cfg file.
HIGHMEMFIX=1 does not appear to be in my FSX: SE cfg file. I have the cfg open here in front of me, and no where can I see this tweak. Should I add it into the cfg file, or was it integrated into some other piece of code by Dovetail?

Increasing the LOD_RADIUS
Increasing the LOD Radius will increase the draw distance in FSX? In X-plane it is the opposite you see. With the Terra Haze plugin, increasing the LoD Radius decreases draw distance.

Increasing the LOD_RADIUS
Is there any way of increasing the LOD_RADIUS in FSX:SE in order to make the distance less blurry in ORBX Open LC scenery? I have a surplus of FPS I would like to use. I know in X-plane that increasing the LOD_RADIUS value reduces the draw distance and there is a plugin that does this. How do I go about doing this in FSX:SE? Thanks.

Low CPU & GPU use but low FPS?
An i7 4790K processor would be better than the one you have. It is FASTER, which is all that matters for X-plane/FSX. I have mine overclocked to 4.7GHZ and am getting 30-60 FPS in highly detailed areas like London Heathrow with addons. This is at 4K resolution. Like you, I am also using a GTX 970. What is the base speed of your CPU? I advise you to turn down number of cars to Siberian Winter, as this will take a huge load off your CPU. I would also change the shadow settings to overlay or static. I would turn on HDR rendering and set screen anti-aliasing to 2X. You can see my settings/FPS here: forum.avsim.net/topic/468892-4k-monitor-gives-higher-fps-with-no-noticeable-loss-of-quality/

4k monitor gives higher FPS with no noticeable loss of quality
Here are some photos. You can see my FPS in the top left plugin. The pics look crappier than what I see in game because my camera is always moving with a plugin This is the INTERESTING comparison. Now look at the FPS difference between these two photos. The first photo has 8X (higest rendering) and my FPS is around 17. Now look at this photo. With 2x rendering and my FPS is a butter smooth 33 FPS. And yet, the loss of picture quality is negligible. (Both are 4k resolution)...

Low CPU & GPU use but low FPS?
I have a single GTX 970, and an i7 4790 4.7GHZ CPU. I'm getting well over 100FPS on my 4K monitor at Heathrow with ultra/high settings. (This is because there is no need for Anti-aliasing at 4k resolution, so turning this off makes no difference in picture quality, but gives an instant 30-50FPS depending on my location).

4k monitor gives higher FPS with no noticeable loss of quality
X-plane does not support SLI at all. So you're just running with a single GTX660ti. I am using a GTX 970 and am getting 30-40 FPS at Heathrow, JFK with high/ultra settings!

They are 30HZ if you connect them with an HDMI lead. I am using a display port cable and have set a 60HZ refresh rate! It looks stunning...

4k monitor gives higher FPS with no noticeable loss of quality
I am running X-Plane on a 4K monitor at 30-40FPS in New York suburbs/airport + weather + plugins + HS scenery. On my 1080P monitor, the MSAA was set to 8x (maximum) and gave the same FPS but at 4 times less resolution! On my 4K monitor, I have MSAA set to 4X (second highest setting) and get 30-40 FPS in New York and over 100 FPS flying at altitude with a high cloud draw distance. There is no loss of picture quality between these two settings, and 4K monitor gives better performance and overall picture quality. Never again will I be gaming on 1080P monitors. My CPU is 4.6GHZ OC i7 4790 and GTX 970. Has anyone else here noticed this too?

Is this FPS about right for my hardware?
The Jar a330 is an FPS heavy aircraft. It uses about 5 FPS more than the a350 and the 777. It is the most detailed plane available however. Here is London Heathrow with the SAME settings as in the video above (X-Plane FPS TEST). Here I seem to get about 5 FPS more than in La Guardia but there is less autogen to render I suppose. Who here has the Titan X and how many FPS do you pull in demanding places like these? I have noticed a HUGE difference between FPS in the i7 4.7GHZ and my old i5 3GHZ. Now I think it is only my GPU that is throttling my performance. I don't want to go below 30FPS. Should I spend my money on the Titan X?

Is this FPS about right for my hardware?
Check out this video. You will see my hardware at the start. Take notice of the 4.7GHZ OC speed! I am achieving around 30FPS in the most scenery demanding place for flight simulators: New York. Here I fly out of La Guardia with the Drewski New York airports DLC. I do not think my GTX 970 is good enough. Should I consider buying the Titan X?

Is my CPU bottlenecked?
Hey. I don't know how I could have explained this properly, so I have made a video. In this video, you will see the FPS plugin at the top left of the screen, and how much CPU is being used. As you can see, my CPU is hardly being used (the value should be near 0.995). My FPS is around 30. The CPU is an old I5 2320 3GHZ. The GPU is a GTX 970 4GB. Can you tell if there is a bottleneck looking at those numbers? How can I get my CPU to use more power so I can inject better graphics and clouds into X-plane (achieve better FPS)?

Jar A330 released
Having recently migrated from FSX to X-Plane, I have only Ramzzess' 777 installed. I value eye candy a lot, and looking at the shots of this bird, the cockpit textures looks excellent. However, the A350 looks appealing too, and I really don't know which one to choose. (I can't have both - yet!). I think I'm leaning towards the A330 due to its phenomenal textures, which is a shame, as the A350s' modern systems look interesting too.

Which processor is best?
Next week, I'll finally be buying a new processor to replace my now out-dated i5 2320 3GHZ one. There are two options available to me: Intel® Core™ i7-5960X Processor Extreme Edition (20M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz) Intel® Core™ i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz) While the first one is a lot slower, it can be OC to 4.4GHZ on a cooler. So, that'd mean they'd be 8 cores, each working at 4.4GZ, as opposed to just 4 cores as with the 4790K. Would FSX make use of all of those 8 cores, and will it cause stuttering/tearing? Will X-plane also make use of those 8 cores? If both CPU run at the same speed, then surely the 5960X is best, right? Dumb question, but I hear people say that FSX has problems with more than 4 cores and X-plane has issues with hyperthreading. My GPU will be a Titan X

Missing Scenery Issue
I don't know what that means, sorry...

Migrating from FSX to X-plane
Hey - After enjoying the X-plane demo, I bought it and haven't looked back to FSX. X-plane rendering is far superior to FSX, in particular the draw distance. No matter how far I set the LoD_Radius in the FSX config, the terrain in the distance is too blurry. Even with ORBX FTX Global with settings maxed out, the ground textures just don't cut it. P3D too has this problem, being directly descended from FSX. In X-plane, the landscape, bar the autogen, is far more aesthetic than anything FSX/P3D has to offer in my opinion. The distance is rendered beautifully, and the autogen phases out slowly; unlike in FSX where it immediately stops at a certain radius from my plane. However, the only thing keeping me tied to FSX is the PMDG 737 NGX. X-plane does not have a study sim NGX, but does have a study sim 777, which I find is better than PMDG in most areas except texture quality. So, the point of this thread is, now that PMDG have developed their first aircraft for X-plane, what is the possibility of them making their 777 and 737 compatible with X-plane in the future? Will this depend on how successful the DC-6B is in retail? If they don't sell many copies, will they abandon what plans they have for X-plane? When can we expect to see their NGX in X-plane?

Missing Scenery Issue
Hi folks - I've downloaded Aerosoft's Heathrow for X-plane. I installed it in my root X-plane folder. I booted up X-plane the first time and everything was fine - I could see the airport and it looked great. However, I booted up X-plane today (without having done anything to my X-plane directory since then) and all of the airport is missing. There are just runways and taxiways in the default textures. Nothing from the Aerosoft has loaded at all. So, I checked X-plane root directory again, and this is what it looks like: From what I can see, there are three folders related to Heathrow airport, and only one of them is the Aerosoft scenery. What can I do to make the Aerosoft scenery load instead of the default scenery? Thanks. UPDATE: I loaded the X-plane again (without having modified anything). This time, some of the textures have loaded, but from what I can see, there looks to be a scenery clash between older textures and newer textures. Also - This is Zurich. There are no airport buildings, but yesterday there were the default airport buildings with jetways and other details. I downloaded a V3 scenery tile for this area, so this may be interfering with something?

How can I report those who download torrents?
Hello. How can I report people for downloading Flight Simulator merchandise without paying for it? Do I send an email to the company whose product they are illegally downloading? I know the name and IP address of a few people doing this, and I'd like to report them because they are killing our hobby as well as committing piracy. There are also people on various torrent sites with pages of uploaded Flight Simulator DLC I'd like to report but I'm not sure who I should report them to. Ideally I would like to see them banned from these sites and their uploads removed. How should I inform the appropriate authority?
