  1. Ok, thanks. I will have a look at your suggestions. I am using P3D and am sure the callouts were from the GTN, as I have the same aircraft without the GTN750 installed and there is no callout from this aircraft. I dont think any of the aircraft I fly have a GPWS, but will check into this too. Thanks again for your help. Mike
  2. Hello. I am a former RW floatplane flyer and am getting into landing on water in P3D. What a treat. I have the new Milviz Beaver and am trying it out with the GTN750 installed. I never flew a floatplane with a GTN750! But the GTN750 is a great way to get around crosscountry. However, when landing on water in the amphib beaver, there is a constant Terrain warning alert that is a little annoying. Would anyone in the know be able to suggest how to disable or override this aural warning? Thanks in advance, Mike Hamilton
  3. Wilco. Thanks for the help. I think I am on version 1.2.4 now. Any idea when a newer version will be ready?
  4. Thank you, Alex. That worked nicely to restore the map window. All back to normal now. Your new menu item to reset the window layout to default is a great idea. I will look for it when I update next. Your program is absolutely fantastic, and you are making it better with ongoing improvements. I am retired and an ex-commercial pilot from rural Canada and wish I had your program years ago to plan out cross-country flights. It is great to have such uptodate information at hand quickly. I combine LNM planning and following with FlightPlan Go on my iPad and the GTN750 GPS and have a wonderful time in P3D flying all over Northeast America. I prefer the smaller GA stuff to the tubeliners and always fly down low to see the great scenery. Thank you again for your fine program and sharing it with flightsimmers. Mike Hamilton P.S. Is there a defined procedure you recommend when updating to new versions of LNM? Does one just manually delete the folder with the currently installed version and then install the new version folder after the unzip? Does that keep all the "settings" files intact? Or is there a defined install program and/or sequence to follow?
  5. Hello. I have been using this fantastic program and find it very useful for flight planning and following. Yesterday I dragged the map window to a second monitor, using my first monitor for the other windows of LNM (flight plan, info,etc.). I shut down as normal. Today when I opened LNM I no longer have the map window on the 2nd monitor. The other windows show fine on the first monitor. Is there a way to get the map display open again? A menu option or keypress? Any help or guidance would be gratefully appreciated. I am using P3D. Thank you.
  6. Hello all: Good advice, Ken. Carrying real world paper charts is wise. You never know when technology will let you down. Situational awareness is paramount in flying. Where one is, and where one needs to go, are critical when things go south. Having a simple backup like a readable chart at your knee is prudent, especially if you are flying GA. That said, I too learned to fly before all the technology was available. It is amazing what there is out there now, but these should be tools only to successful piloting. No flight school is likely to start a student on how to program an FMS! But understanding dead reckoning and need for heading holding and correcting for drift are amongst the first things taught for navigating properly. Back on topic! For sim flying, I find Fltplan Go is a great substitute for a moving map display, after I have planned things out on paper maps. (I almost always fly small GA stuff and no more than a few hundred miles). In the aircraft I have that use the GTN750, I use this for my primary navigation and autopilot guidance, and supplement this with Fltplan Go on my iPad. The great thing about Fltplan Go is that you can bring up the VFR chart on the background and then see where your moving aircraft is on that map. You can zoom in on the iPad to see exactly where you are (even down to what lake or feature you might be over), and then correlate this with an out the window view to verify. From map to ground! And if you want to divert to an airport, you can easily switch from the maps page to the airport one and at a glance see the approach plates, airport info, etc. You can fly an approach and see on the moving map where you are intercepting or on the localizer on Fltplan Go. I know Foreflight lets you do this, but at a cost. (I presume soon someone will be able to show you on the moving map where you are on the glideslope too...vnav.) It is a great way to know where you are and where you need to go, and what you are going to do when you get there! Just like the real world. Situational awareness! Using the resources at hand for a successful flight is what makes a good pilot. Hope this helps. Flight simming and the online community with all its various experiences and knowledge is great. These will keep the flying dream alive for the younger among us, and the enjoyment of flight for those of us who have been around the pattern a bit too much! Cheers, Mike Hamilton
  7. Thank you, Scott, for your excellent summary on how to setup your planning before flight. I tried LMN last night and it is great. I will certainly use your summary to better effect now. I did find LNM has a save plan as gfp option (garmin file I think) , that allows one to save the LMN plan into the directory where your Flight1 GTN is installed, but you have to point it there. Then you can import this plan into the GTN750: once you are at the Flight Plan Catalog in the 750, you click on Menu again and click import to load the saved file in. It works yet I agree with you it is about just as easy to enter directly into the 750 and this allows you to check routing as you go. Isn't FltPlan Go great? No need for Foreflight, you get FREE aircraft following on map and approach chart, and you can easily jump to destination airport info, charts, procedures, etc. I can't believe how good this is. Cant wait for P3D 64 bit. Things in flight simming can only get better with this technology. I learned to fly years ago on gauges and floats. How different it must be for the younger people now with all these tools. Still doesnt give you seat of the pants but helps with the understanding of what is going on and how to navigate, etc. Hope to meet you and say thank you personally for your advice at FlightSimCon in June. Cheers, Mike Hamilton
  8. Hello: Re free apps, try Fltplan.com and the Fltplan Go app for your tablet. One can then have a moving map display and immediate access to airport charts and procedures. Fltplan Go works wirelessly to your tablet to give you flight information you need without clogging up your monitor or monitors, and you can move your tablet around to suit your setup. All for free, including procedures with a moving aircraft on the approach. Foreflight is an excellent program but unless one has deep pockets, for flight simulation, it is a bit of overkill, in my opinion. Hope this helps.
  9. Thanks, Scott for the tip re Little Navmap. I have been using Fltplan and Fltplan Go and agree it is fantastic. I will try out Little Navmap. Would you be able to list out briefly the steps you would use for a short GA flight using Little Navmap? For example, when you save the flight plan does it automatically appear in the P3D list of available flight plans? And if you save it also as a Garmin Flight Plan file, does it appear in the GTN750 stored list (assuming you have a GTN750)? Also, is there any link with AS16 and the flight plans listed in it? Up to now, I have been entering the AS16 plan, then opening P3D and loading the GTN750 plan, then opening Fltplan Go, etc. This takes time and having one program like Little Navmap that would do several steps would be great. Thanks for your help and advice. Mike Hamilton
  10. Thanks, Al. I agree that the options are limitless for learning about aviation nowadays compared to even just 10 years ago. I hope this will translate into a renewal of general aviation interest for the younger generation. Otherwise all that will be needed is a dog in the cockpit! I trust you know the joke: Q. In the future, cockpits will have a pilot and a dog. We know the pilot's purpose, but why a dog? A. The dog is to bite the hand of the pilot if he/she tries to touch anything! Wow, it must be fun to ply your talents in the aviation world in Fla and China. I understand that China is where the real growth in flying is going to occur. But living over there is expensive I am told. Yes, it would be great to see how the desk simulation handles real-world emergencies and problems. I suspect it will be the code written into the main program that will dictate what the addon developers can and cannot do. I suspect also large firms like Lockheed-Martin would have the wherewithall to do what was needed for difficult situations if they chose to devote resources to these. But of course that will jack up prices I suppose. And getting the right and reasonably priced simulation hardware to interact with the software to make it realistic is also needed. Often it seems that one needs a masters degree in computer science and software engineering to figure it out. Whatever, it will be interesting to see how the simulation hobby goes. Sites and resources like yours really help! Mike Hamilton
  11. Capt Al: Just viewed your FMS-CDU Preflight video! I believe the guys in the 8th Air Force would call you a Gen Man, and those in the RAF would refer to your efforts as Wizard! For anyone who wants to fly the heavies, or wants to learn more about cockpit procedures, these are a must. Well done and easy to follow. You have a knack for anticipating what the user needs to know next!!! Highly recommended. Mike H.
  12. Hello Capt Al: Thanks for your reply and for your excellent videos. Great concept on teaching and immensely practical. These are and will be a fantastic asset to younger people wanting to learn how to do things right in the cockpit, and also for others who wonder how things work up there! Wish these kind of resources were available years ago! Onward, ho! Sorry that the suggestions didn't work out to stop the computer crashes. I am sure if it works occasionally that eventually someone will be able to figure it out. One of the problems with the Flight Sim stuff is that there are so many hardware and software permutations out there, and so many addons to boot (sorry for the pun!), that one person can have things running well and another just has a frustrating experience. The 4G limit for Virtual Address Space with 32 bit programs like FS and current P3D keeps systems perpetually at the point of the stall. Sometimes dancing on the rudder can keep things flying, but other times even trying to power oneself out doesn't work! I am hoping the new Lockheed Martin P3D in 64 bit will be an improvement. We'll see. Re Flightsimcon, you are absolutely right it is at KBDL. Here's the link: http://flightsimcon.com/ . It used to be at the New England Air Museum just on the north side of the field, but this year is at the airport hotel as they need more space. I went a couple years ago and found it useful to get an idea of what is upcoming in Flight Simming. There are lots of people who can answer all sorts of questions on what to do and what not to do. My wife and I are going to drive down from Ottawa where we live and make it a weekend. Retired, so have the time! It's a bit of a trek from the Land of 10K Lakes, but if you go, would enjoy meeting you. If you can't, I will ask around about your system crashing issue and see if there is a solution! Keep up the great work that will benefit many. Cheers, Mike H. P.S. Where in MN are you? We have a daughter at the U of MN in Minneapolis and visit her often. Great state and the best people there!
  13. Hello Capt Al: I replied earlier today on another post within this thread and didn't see your system specs earlier. Your system should be able to run multiple monitors with FS or P3D. You should be able to get Nvidia Surround working with your monitors and cards. The 750Tis with 2G of memory are a little light compared to new current video cards but should work Ok. If your system runs your trading stuff then it should run FS. Do all your monitors show up in the nvidia configuration? I expect they would. Why a crash when dragging windows is crazy. I see others had this problem with FS Steam and some solved it by unclicking the Preview DX10 box in the graphics setup of FS. I am not a pro with FS anymore (or probably never was) and have switched to P3D since it appears the future of flight simming, especially when the 64 bit version is released soon. Another of the things I tried in the past with FSX was always to shut down in windowed mode and then when restarting to always first be in windowed mode before going full screen. I am not sure if this applies to your situation here, but it may be worth a try. There is a https://steamcommunity.com/app/314160/discussions/0/620713633855707115/ topic that you might want to visit and post if you havent already. Hope this helps. Given your experience and what you bring to the community, it would be a shame if someone out there cant get this to work for you. Flight simming is much better on several monitors. And please keep up the great work on your videos. A final suggestion would be to visit the Flightsimcon 2017 conference in June if you didnt know about it. Just google it and you will have the info. Not sure where you are but it is worth a trip if you are getting into FS more. Someone there will certainly be able to help you and get this resolved. Take care, and keep the dirty side down! Mike Hamilton
  14. Hello Capt Al: First, very nice job on your training series that I just found today and will check out further soon. Your resume is very impressive for this community! Re your monitor dilemma, I am sure there is a solution to get your multiple monitors working. If you can have your monitors working for your trading activities then I dont see why things shouldnt work for your flight sim, but you may have to run with windowed rather than full screen mode in FS. I suspect it may be video hardware issues that may be the culprit that causes the crash? For example, I am running 5 monitors using 2 separate (non-SLI) GTX970 video cards with P3D v3. 3 27" monitors are connected to 1 of the 970's and configured to run in surround mode. I use this for the "out of cockpit" view. The other 2 smaller monitors are connected to the other 970, and provide the panel and a GPS view. I can open and drag windows around by opening and undocking them in P3D. I find the surround view is wide and gives me a more realistic out of cockpit view. (I used to fly small GA in rural Canada off floats and skiis many years ago and never had autopilots, and I enjoy the peripheral vision available for navigating and on the approach with my setup). Having the panel monitor right in front of my yoke and below the 3 wider view monitors seems most realistic to me. My motherboard and CPU are fairly robust and I havent had any issues with slow frames or stutters even with all monitors in use with multiple windows open. Now, I am no hardware expert but if you could detail your hardware and monitor setup, then that might help me or others suggest something for you. This community is about sharing and you have certainly done that with your series! Hope this helps, Mike Hamilton
  15. Thanks for confirming the GTN750 works with a touchscreen monitor. BTW, great work with the real gauges and your build!
  16. Was wondering if anyone might be able to share their experience on running aircraft (in P3D) with a GTN750 using a touchscreen monitor? I have an unused HDMI port on my GTX970 and am considering an Acer UT220 for the GTN750 in windowed mode, using this HDMI port. My system is quite robust so can handle this extra monitor. Thanks for any help and suggestions.
  17. Great, thank you. Will do. That will make the component config much easier!
  18. Thank you for the advice. Can I just copy the v2.5 controls file from the 2.5 controls folder and drop it into the v3.3 controls folder? Is that how one goes about not having to reconfigure all the axes/buttons, etc.?
  19. Yes I will need to purchase the new P3d but my question is will I need to purchase all the addons again that I have now in v2.5?
  20. Hello all. I am a longtime user of v2.5 (as long as last year anyway!) with Windows 8.1. I have just updated to Windows 10 and v2.5 works great, even better than on 8.1. All my controllers work well (a bunch of Saitek and some GF's). I have multiple ORBX stuff, FTN, Realair, etc for 2.5. I use several monitors for a widescreen out of cockpit view as I find this most realistic (was a real-life pilot in the past who finds the single monitor view not that great in terms of reality). Now I am considering to update to 3.3. I will install it on a separate SSD. I was wondering if anyone who has both v2.5 and a newer v3 has any tips? For instance, is there a way to copy over a p3d controls file so I don't have to reconfigure everything again from 2.5? Can I reinstall my addons legally into 3.3 with files that I have purchased already? I obviously wouldn't be running both 2.5 and 3.3 at once. Does a new install of these using the v3 installer option affect the v2 install at all? Would anyone out there in the know who has done a similar upgrade be able to help with suggestions? Any help or caveats are welcome and might help many others who are sitting on the fence up like I was up to now too. Thank you in advance.
  21. Have just downloaded and installed the new KSEZ scenery from Orbx. It is fantastic. However, in my setup, there are many aircraft and some static vehicles and people now appearing suspended in the air over the airport. I have installed the latest ORBX libs and also used the Airport Elevation Correction in FTX Global Vector. Any thoughts on how to correct this? Apologies, I am new to posting and I may have this in the wrong spot. Thank you.
  22. Sorry but am a relative newbie to Flight Sim things. I have just installed the Orbx products (Global, Vector, FTX for 2010). I am running P3D 2.5. How does one "disable" Vector? Is it in the Scenery config choice within the sim? If so, which boxes would i need to uncheck? Thank you. I presume that would free up VAS but result in less detail? Any advice would be appreciated.
  23. Thank you. I spoke to John at GoFlight who suggested a reinstall of the GF driver. If I manually load the databridge after P3D, all works. Now I have functionality of the GF radios and autopilot. Still working on the Saitek switch panel. It tests fine with their test program but I can't get anything when P3D is running. Wonder if it is a 32 vs 64 bit thing, as all their other drivers are 64 bit. I will try the SPUD fix next.
  24. Thanks all for the suggestions. I tried to run the GFDevP3D.exe manually before loading P3D and no luck here. I will try another install of the Saitek driver as suggested. Just a thought...would it make any difference on what drives the GOflight and Saitek folders are compared to the P3D folder? I have 2 SSD's, one dedicated to P3D and the first to the OS, drivers, etc.? I don't want to get into changing registry values, etc. Or the fact my windows is 64 bit and the driver is 32 bit??? I think it is a exe.xml or simconnect problem? Anyone with further suggestions? Thanks.
  25. Further to the above, I have now tested the Saitek switch panel with the Switch Panel Tester and it works in Windows, so it appears it and the GoFlight modules are being recognized by Windows. Seems to be a problem with getting P3D to connect to the GF modules and the Saitek Switch Panel. I do not have FSX installed on my computer. I had everything working well with FSX on my original computer. Anyone in the know, please advise. Thank you once again.
