Sounds not playing on the NGX
I found it! I went into the sound settings in the FMC and checked the volume levels sections, turns out "ambience" and "external" were at 0 while the other ones were at 100, so i changed these two to 100 as well and all the sounds are working properly now. I have no idea why these settings were changed or if it defaults this way? Thanks for your help anyways! Edit: Btw I have no idea what "ambience" and "external" have to do with the air conditioning and elevator trim sounds but regardless it fixed the problem

Sounds not playing on the NGX
Hello again, thanks for your replies. I have now checked all sound settings, I also restored the NGX to "Original" from the FMC, also the FSX sound levels are all on 50% as recommended by the manual, so I don't really see what else I could check. If you don't have any other suggestions, I will try to reinstall the NGX first, hopefully that will solve the issue so I don't have to reinstall FSX itself as I got lots of addons and I really don't want to go through the process of reinstalling everything. Before I reinstall the aircraft, I need to ask, how are things done when it comes to license? Do I just remove it from the programs list on control panel? (I am running Windows 7 x64), or is there a special "uninstaller" from PMDG I have to use so I don't loose my license?

Sounds not playing on the NGX
Hey guys. I have noticed that recently, some of the sounds of the NGX are no longer being played in FSX. Among these, the elevator trim wheel is not making any sound anymore when being moved, it is completely silent, same goes for the air conditioning packs and the recirculation fan, they are completely silent so the only sound I hear in flight is engines. I didn't do any changes to FSX recently that could have caused this issue. For a period of time (about 2-3 weeks or so), I have been absent and haven't been using the simulator, and as I recall everything was fine last time I used the simulator. So the issue seems to have been caused by something else? I have tried defragmenting my hdd, I have tried reinstalling DirectX as the support staff suggested, but the problem persists. I would greatly appreciate if anyone has any suggestions that could help solve this issue. Hopefully not involving reinstalling the entire simulator. Thank you in advance for your reply. Best regards

looking for improved Boeing 737-700/800
Like most other people that posted here, I also recommend the PMDG 737 NGX. I purchased that aircraft after only about 2-3 weeks of experience in FSX. At that point, I wasn't even comfortable flying the default FSX aircraft except the Cessna 172, but I still decided to take the leap to an advanced simulation of a very (to my experience) complex aircraft, and I didn't regret it one bit. In the beginning I just kept replaying the tutorial flights, and after a while when I got comfortable flying by myself I started using Simbrief to create my own flight plans, and before I knew it I was doing all the startup and preflight procedures and the flights by myself without any tutorials or guides, and boy it really is a good feeling! The 737 NGX is an awesome aircraft that (despite it's intimidating first impression) really is not that hard to master. Short version: I highly recommend getting the PMDG 737, you won't regret it :-)

Realistic engine sound in FSX
Wow, thanks for some really good in depth tips there. I have been looking around the internet for quite some time now for a "finished" product of replacement sounds for FSX but there doesn't seem to be any, so I might actually take up your advice and look into the possibilities of creating my own sounds. Thanks again for your reply :-)

Realistic engine sound in FSX
Yeah it's really sad that sound quality in FSX is so bad, especially when you make everything else look super realistic, the bad sound quality really stands out and ruins the whole thing a little bit, which is too bad.

Realistic engine sound in FSX
Hey guys, I tried searching around but could not find an answer to my question. If my question however already has been asked and answered some place at the forum I apologize and ask kindly that someone point me to that thread. I am new to the forum btw so I apologize in advance. My question is regarding the jet engine sound effects in FSX. I am primarily using the PMDG 737 aircraft, which does have a more realistic engine sound than the default FSX aircraft, but I can't help but think there is something missing. I found 2 random videos on youtube which are not mine and which I take no credit for, I just want to ask you to watch them and compare the sound, the first video is FSX, the second is real aircraft: 1. - FSX: 2. - Real aircraft: My question is: is there a way (addon/setting tweak/whatever) to make the sound in FSX sound more like jet engines sound in real life at a distance? I am talking about the wavy-ish whistling/whining/change in pitch mixed with general sound warping (caused by aerodynamics?) that you can clearly hear aircraft make in real life like in the second video. That is something that's missing in FSX, and I would really like to fix that. The sound on the PMDG while in virtual cockpit view (or any other in/around the aircraft view for that matter) is pretty realistic, but when using the "fly by" camera like the one you can see being used in the first video, the sound is really dull and not very realistic. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any replies.
