  1. I'm in almost exactly the same position so nice thread👍 I want to upgrade for MSFS and been thinking 4790-k. Currently very busy work wise and I can't spare the time to "Run In" a new PC. Not particularly PC savvy either and can no longer be bothered with all the bolt on accessories that go with the older flightsims. Been flightsimming for 35yrs though. Z87-k mobo GTX 1650 card 16GB ram ....but.... i5 4430 cpu @ 3 ghz it currently runs P3D very nicely indeed flying GA. Not particularly interested in the big aircraft. ....Might I ask where your intending to get the new processor from? PM me the answer if you don't want to post on here. .....thanks again.
  2. The reality is that we don't know what the reality is. I haven't met anyone yet who has a true perspective on the virus, I include myself. Nobody knows how many have had it, have it or have died from it although our guesses for the last group are probably more accurate........ The virus is a threat but we simply do not have the figures to establish how much of a threat it is. Without blanket testing the numbers are unknown. Given the human tendency (necessary instinct) to try and make educated guesses based on what info we have we turn to the media and speculate. In the UK (and probably elsewhere) the press operate the "if it bleeds it leads" strategy. They know that scary stories sell papers. Loads of scaremongering going on, when it comes to the virus many in the population are scared beyond rational thought. In the UK it seems we have been on some sort of cliff edge for many years. Fears and divisions about terrorism, immigration, Brexit have all taken their toll. Chronic anxiety is very real thing individually and collectively. These fears and divisions have been magnified by the media because of increased competition and the "if it bleeds it leads" response. Many politicians exaggerate or understate the threats to suit their own agendas.......You might say that "the press and politicians have always done this" but the level to which they do it has increased massively in recent years. Certainly in the UK none of the public can establish what the facts are myself included. Add to that the other anxieties experienced in the lead up to the pandemic. The virus feels like the final straw. No one can get a handle on it. It could be that our reaction to the current situation is a bigger threat than the virus itself. Not knowing is scary.

    Clear skies

Some of the misunderstanding was down to my lack of detail I'm sure. I'll not labour the point because I'm not a fanatic, as I said I'm just an ordinary bloke with lovely kids and grand kids. Perhaps some good can come from the current global situation once we come out the other side. Maybe it's time to curb our love affair with cheap holidays twice a year and an ever expanding jet aviation industry, it does contribute quite significantly to duller days and global warming. I shall enjoy the tube liners on my flightsim but I will think long and hard before I get on a jet again.......time to let them go? maybe. Time to think about letting them go? definitely Thanks for reading and stay safe.

    Clear skies

Sorry I didn't get the "Jargon" right. I'm just ordinary folk who plays on flightsims 😉 I'll clarify. For me clear blue skies = clear blue skies as viewed from my (or your) back yard = a beautiful day that hasn't been made slightly less beautiful by contrail cirrus. As for your points that the research contradicts. "So clearer skies no, certainly not on a time scale of a matter of days or weeks."....the research suggests visibly it's an almost immediate effect. "What we are seeing above the UK is a short term "local" weather event, not a long terms "global" climate event." .....the research suggests it's possibly (I think probably) not. "The airline industry generates 2% of all human-induced carbon dioxide emissions." .......The research indicates that cirrus contrails contribute 5% to global warming. OK, carbon emmisions are not the same thing as global warming but carbon emissions are not the whole picture.

    Clear skies

There is now research that indicates otherwise (on nearly all your points). I understand that research is not proof but this article certainly corresponds with my observations over nearly 20 years as a keen weather watcher. I'm a regular and experienced coastal sailor (racing small boats with my wife) , although I'm not an expert on the technical side of forecasting I do know what the weather looks like. Extract from article: "White wispy trails across the blue sky on a sunny day are one of the few attractive features of air travel. But they have a darker side, especially at night. For the condensation trails produced by the exhaust from aircraft engines are creating an often-invisible thermal blanket of cloud across the planet. Though lasting for only a short time, these “contrails” have a daily impact on atmospheric temperatures that is greater than that from the accumulated carbon emissions from all aircraft since the Wright Brothers first took to the skies more than a century ago." Clear skies

No tin foil hats in this household........I couldn't get the foil, store shelves are empty 😉 yes, I remember some years ago sitting on the shores of Lake Garda, after having flown there, watching the jet liners contrails turn into cloud. It made for quite a hazy day. The skies have been remarkably clear for several days. I don't know the figures for jet liner contributions to global warming but purely from an observational perspective it seems to make a lot of immediate difference to conditions.

    Clear skies

Been simming since 90's , generally light aircraft. Currently running P3D. My Location is SE UK. That aside, Whats with the incredibly clear blue skies for the last week or so. Is it the high pressure (currently 1023mb)? or the drastically reduced aircraft activity? or maybe something else? I have to say that the last time I noticed skies like this was after another air traffic grounding incident several years ago. Genuinely interested in opinions on this.
  8. I think I may have found a solution that gives me a better response curve. This is a fix I vaguely remember from FSX days. I added stick_sensitivity_mode=0 to the control section of the config. This seems to have given more control of sensitivities and a more linear response. I'll play with it and see if it's a worthwhile improvement.
  9. Yes, I looked at FSUIPC yesterday. It does offer the chance to adjust response curves. I'm not sure it will enable the mode switch though, perhaps someone can confirm that? Another consideration is the 28 euros that it costs for the full licence which I think I need for stick programing. OK it's not much in itself but it is a significant proportion of the cost of a new stick. I also muck about with other sims/games like Elite Dangerous. I presume FSUIPC doesn't work with them? ....Thanks for the suggestion, it may be an option.
  10. I've been watching progress but haven't looked much closer than forums. I have Elite Dangerous but I haven't played for 4 months as I got totally bored with it, it is a massive grind to achieve anything and some of the random outcomes are ridiculous. If SC avoids those traps I'll give it a go.
  11. My X45 is in perfect mechanical condition, it's clean and looks like new. Unfortunately the 64 bit programming software doesn't work on my win7 64 bit system. If I try the software it causes a BSD. The mode switches don't work either, presumably because I can't program them. The standard response curve on stick and rudder is terrible with way too much action around the center position. Very occasionally it goes laggy and responds about 8 seconds after input, I'm not sure if this last issue is a joystick or system problem. I'm not comfortable with the modern throw away culture so I would like to resolve these issues before I give in and bin an otherwise perfectly good stick. Any suggestions? P3D V3.4
  12. I had a broken installation of 3.3 with some dodgy misplaced textures so I went for the full clean install of P3D v3.4. I don't have a top end machine, i5 and GtX 750ti. My settings are medium to high, locked frames at 30. I have now reinstalled some of my ORBX software and all seems well. I've done some long flights across Europe in the Alabeo SkyWagon, all very enjoyable with no problems I haven't noticed any improved performance and I still get the periodic stutters when panning in outside view but I guess that's down to my low end machine. It might be my imagination but the ground textures seem to be duller, less bright. The HDR is not an option for me because of the performance hit. The 2 main extras with this version (for me anyway) are the cinematographer option and the real time airspace graphics. OK the cinematography option is not as good as some payware addons but it is a vast improvement in ease of camera control over what I had previously. My main grumble with all versions is the air traffic settings. If I have 5 to 10 AI's around I don't have much of a problem, the periodic stutters increase slightly but it's tolerable.......why they haven't given use an upper limit setting yet is beyond me. Overall I'm happy with P3D V3.4
  13. Thanks Chaps, it's a pleasure to be here.
  14. Really glad that P3D is being constantly developed.....but.....maybe I'm getting old, I am enjoying the constant tweaking, uninstalling, reinstalling less and less. My current install (3.3) is slightly broken, dodgy textures here and there, not sure why. Think I'm going to stick with the next install for a couple of years. I have downloaded 3.4 just waiting to see what folk can do with the new Camera controls and stuff before I install. Anyone put together an arty video yet?
  15. I'll answer my own question. Yes I was doing something wrong. The click points for the VS adjustment are quite a long way above the ALT/VS knob. The manual suggests they are on the button to alternate between ALT and VS or to the left or right above to adjust. So click above to alternate.
  16. Hi all. I've recently purchased the said aircraft and am having trouble with Vertical speed, The AVSS doesn't seem clickable, the rotary knob rotates but I can't push it by clicking on it and the 2 buttons are unresponsive. If I click ALT on the auto pilot the 2 AVSS button go in and out but that's all I can get them to do. I have switched off reflections in the P3D display menu. Am I doing something wrong? All help appreciated.
  17. I've been simming since the 80's using one machine or another. I have had several breaks over the years, just back from one now. Currently using P3D v3.3 with a few add ons........my, my hasn't flight simming moved on since the days of the zx spectrum and BBC model b? Greetings all.
