Navigraph survey is out for 2026! Go fill it in MSFSers!
Filled in! Maybe we'll be on it next year 😁

Downloading over 500GB of data
I thought the melted trees and all that were due to bad streaming. Downloaded a few regions I'm familiar with and.... it was just as bad. Tried again with the new cali update. Downloaded and flew it. Was still not happy with the quality of photogrammetry, at least when up close. Has a loooong way to go before its quality enough while flying low in VR.

Tried ChatGPT for trip planning…it is insane.
Hi 👋 I've developed something very similar - Each plane as an AI model associated with it, trained/fine tuned on its data/docs/checklists. Really cuts down on made up answers. About to add a massive update with checklist support. It's pretty cool, can walk through checklists with the AI, ask how to do a specific checklist item, get a really good answer, then move on. It's quick, too. https://www.siminstructor.net/ Next update will involve the AI recognizing the variable state along with the item. After that - flows for commercial planes. Cheers - Jason

This is a fantastic idea. I’m actually going to look at implementing something like this for my AI instructors. They already go way deeper than I ever expected on instructional feedback, and since my system can already digest SimBrief flight plans, read live telemetry, and account for active weather conditions, I bet it can give even more accurate advice. Worth a shot. Would this feature be useful?

Hey all, (Was told I can only have one thread, so bumping this 😁) I’ve just released the first version of SimInstructorAI to our Early Backers! If that includes you, I’d love your help testing these first builds. I’m considering this a pre-alpha, and I’m keeping the $19.95 lifetime access price for a bit longer. What’s available? - Enhanced AI models for the Cessna 172 (Steam and G1000 variants). I’ve been testing a ton of contextual and AI building blocks with this aircraft, and the foundation is now solid. I’ll be expanding to more planes quickly. - General AI model. A non-enhanced AI instructor that works with any aircraft (with some data limitations). - Upvote/downvote system. This helps me identify responses that were totally off-base or incorrect. I also have CFIs helping me review feedback so we can further fine-tune the plane-specific models. - Complete WASM/SimConnect integration. Live data feeds from your sim to the AI, so it has a smarter understanding of your current aircraft and situation. Even in its current state, I think it’s a pretty cool piece of tech, and our first few testers have been impressed! If you’d like to give it a try - or just chat - I’m happy to answer questions here or on Discord. Cheers 🍺 Jason

Thank you. After a decade working with homeowners, I don't speak BS. Great question - I’m both not sure that I am yet, and pretty confident I can be when it comes to aviation training. I’ve spent the last few years helping friends and local small businesses get set up with AI features, mainly to cut down on the SaaS costs we were all paying to run our businesses. It just wasn’t affordable in our area. Working with all those weird niches around town really forced me to learn a lot of tricks to deal with hallucinations and all the other random, weird word not allowed AI would do or offer customers. I’m also pretty passionate about the tech in general, always reading Reddit, tech forums, and the like, trying to keep up to date on new tricks and trends. The biggest help, though? I’m a student pilot right now, and I’ve got a fairly big network of CFIs and pilot friends who’ve agreed to take a look at what I’m doing and give feedback - and they’ve said if it’s dumb as heck, they get to relentlessly make fun of me. So there’s that motivation too.

Good question, and totally fair to ask. Right now the $20 is a pre-order. If you pay today, you’re locking in a lifetime license, but you won’t be downloading or using it today - the beta isn’t quite ready for general use yet. The reason it’s discounted is because you’re trusting me before it’s out. As a thank-you for backing it early, that $20 locks in the full version, plus Includes any future add-on “instructor packs” for free. Once it’s released and in wider beta, the price will go up and those extra instructor packs will be paid add-ons for new buyers - but early backers won’t pay a cent more. It also keeps me honest: the longer I take, the more people can sneak in at the cheap “everything included” price, which is terrible for my wallet. So I’m very motivated to get the beta into your hands as soon as it’s actually usable, not “someday, maybe.”

Enough subscriptions. I know we've all had enough of them for a lifetime, right? Hi everyone, long time avsim lurker (got mod approval for this post) - my name is Jason and I’m focusing on creating an AI flight mentor for simmers, as a one-time purchase with unlimited use. No credits, no “premium” voices or anything like that. Think of it as a patient Instructor that never gets tired of your questions. You can ask stuff like “Why did VNAV just level off here?” or “What’s the correct flow before entering the approach?”, or anything else, really. To answer a few questions.... What makes this AI different? Instead of one generic “works in any plane” instructor, I’m building aircraft-specific mentors, each fine-tuned off real docs/procedures/manuals. - Each AI model is for one aircraft only - Trained/fine-tuned/ in that aircraft’s documentation - Goal is to cut down on hallucinations and “uhhh that’s not how this plane works” answers Voices are decent (not Elevenlabs quality) but cheap enough that I don’t have to nickel-and-dime with credits. How are the planes selected? Chosen by you! I have some pre-selected aircraft, but I’ll be relying on community feedback to decide which planes get a dedicated AI mentor next. Vote in our discord for your favorites! How is this possible with a One Time Purchase? The whole idea is that you outgrow needing it all the time. If you’re asking the same question for the 5th time, I messed up. The goal is that you learn, build confidence, and eventually don’t need a constant AI mentor - you move on to new aircraft and higher-level stuff. The big question - How much does this cost? I’m opening pre-orders now at: - $19.95 USD – lifetime access - Includes every aircraft-specific mentor we ever release Normal price will be $29.95+, and future aircraft mentors will be paid add-ons ($2-$5 each) for everyone who didn’t pre-order. Pre-order folks basically get “all future aircraft included” as a thank-you for helping me get this off the ground. (Why so cheap? It's great motivation to keep my word not allowed in gear and get beta released ASAP!) Learn more on my site - drop your email for updates and possible free beta invites: https://www.siminstructor.net/ I’ve been simming longer than I’ve been in the trades, and I’m currently in the “convince my wife this isn’t a stupid idea” phase 😅 so I’d really love Avsim's take: -Is a high-fidelity, low-cost conversational AI instructor with one-time pricing actually appealing? -Which aircraft would you want covered first? -Anything about this that makes you go “nope, bad idea”? Thanks, look forward to discussing with the community!
