July 1, 200322 yr I really does look nice, would love to have it in my hangar, but im not paying 40$ a plane, 25$ i have paid several times for good planes, but this is too much..for me.OHN

July 1, 200322 yr The bar has definitely been raised for ADDON aircraft prices.$40? That is pretty high for an aircraft package, isn't it? I mean, this is only $20 less than the entire next flight simulator will be. Yes, yes, I know, FS2k4 is a bigger market and all of that, but still. With Parts 2 and 3, there's a chance that one aircraft package could cost most than the actual sim itself. After reading some reviews and customer reaction, I'll probably still buy the package, but I was under the impression that this aircraft's price would be competative with the rest of the market. July 1, 200322 yr This surely must be the biggest frame-rate killer ever!To put it in perspective:If you had trouble with Eaglesoft's Raytheon Beechjet 400A then you'll be really screwed here because with the same setup I get at least a 60% drop in FR compared to that plane! For example taxiing at KLAX:400A - 12 to 14 FPS737 - 7 to 8 FPSI dunno if I want to seriously reduce my setup now that I have enjoyed that level of graphic detail for this plane. Also the rendering is not up to Eaglesoft's standards. You can wiz in and out of the cockpit/cabin in VR in the 400A with no graphic loss and when the door is open outside it's open inside. Not so with the 737. Lots of 'green' blank graphics and no door open inside the cabin.By the time processors are up to handling this plane we'd have moved on to FS2010! and left it behind.dissapointing and relatively expensive.P4 2.66Ghz (533FSB)Asus P4G8X moboRadeon 9500Pro512Mb Corsair Twinnx 3200

July 1, 200322 yr $40 bucks as the "slight" discount? Thats a bit too "slight" dont you think? how much would it be to be fs2004 and the 2 and 3 parts when they become available? I was really looking forward to get this package, but I expected it for $24 maybe $30 the most. Its a shame, and thanks for the frame rate killing info, just confirms I wont buy this package.

But I need eye candy as well - and since I can't have both ways I guess this one's not to be.. Back to my lovely Dash then. :)Frank
July 2, 200322 yr If it is killing fps, it begs the question whether the virtual cabin/cockpit is also displayed in the exterior model. This has been an issue for some releases--the virtual cabin/cockpit (which one is hard pressed to see from the outside) is modeled in the exterior model. And the flip side...exterior portions invisible to the end user (such as the outer fuse walls) are part of the interior model. Not saying that's an issue with this model, but I am curious as to why the performance would be so poor. Also, I had initial problems with ES's Premier, but I found that having HW T&L disabled caused a good 33 pct. drop in performance. Last, what is the fps of cockpit performance, vs. spot plane view? 7-8 fps isn't that bad when in spot plane view, unless that's where the aircraft is being flown from. KLAX, being among the most detailed airports, isn't the best for measuring overall aircraft performance, especially in spot plane view, with a lot of AI added on for good measure.Last (and this is always something I suggest for troubleshooting purposes), what happens if you alias the default 737 panel to the aircraft. Does performance increase? That would help isolate whether the issue was a modelling vs. gauge/panel design issue....-John
July 2, 200322 yr I was wondering why no posts of the package were in the screenshots forum yet. Usually, there are shots of any new package released only a few minutes after the release. I guess the high price, overly-strict & complex registration policy and poor performance have caught many people off guard...
July 2, 200322 yr Good points. I'll be sitting on the fence for a little while awaiting some reviews and more user feedback before making my decision to buy or not. FS2004 will probably be out before then anyways.
July 2, 200322 yr First of all my set-up:XP1800+ (o'clocked to XP2200+)Epox 8RDA+ nForce2 mobo512 PC2700 DDRIBM 40GB 7200 RPM HDTi4200 64Meg video card Most sliders are either mostly right or all the way to the right except AI which is at 80% with PAI.When I initially loaded the PMDG 737 at KSEA (Airport 2000 V3) it took for absolute ever for it to draw and the frames were at 6-8. I noticed that it gives you the option to load VC & Vitual Cabin which I had initially done but it also gives you the option to load 2D only which I did (Again took forever) but the frames jumped up to 11-12 which is very playable as far as I am concerned considering 80% AI. To give you a comparison, the Dreamfleet is the most intensive FPS hog I have currently and it has 2D only and I get 10-12 steady at KSEA. Now, at GMAX type airports as well as most Simflyers airports, I have no problem with the VC and Virtual Cabin with frames in the 13-15 range even on approach (locked at 15). So, what I am getting at is that dependent on your machine and how you have it tweaked, then your mileage will vary. Heck, I even have Wilco's Airport 2002 and my frames are great except for the big hit I take at night unless I turn off AI :-) where many simmers can't run it at all except in SS view (slideshow).I have an XP2500+ 333FSB on order which should be the only upgrade I will need for FS2004 (maybe 128-256 video card)and I would expect my frames to increase by 25-30% after I crank the processor up a little.Don't be afraid to get this package (albeit pricey) becuase it flys like a dream.Cheers!Richard
July 2, 200322 yr I second that, I bought the package and I love it. From what I've noticed is just the reverse of what others are finding. I have framerate problems with the 2D panel and the Cabin. The cockpit VC is wonderful and framerate friendly, the exterior has no problems either when it comes to frames (gonna love the clickable VC in FS2004). I just found that when I'm in a turn using the 2D panel there is noticeable stuttering if the ground is visible (or not). I would recommend this package especially since FS2k4 is coming out. This plane is going to be awesome in FS2004. For anyone thinking about using this plane, you should have at least a Pentium4 2gig processor. This package is going to run like crap otherwise. If you have the power get this bird, you won't regret it...P.S. Word of advice to all, listen to the people who have this package and not the one's who don't. Also don't listen to the one's who bought the package with less than a 2gig processor, I'd be ###### too about the performance versus price.PMDG is taking forever to send me my registration code, I don't think all the features are active yet on mine. If they are they need a patch to address the issue of not being able to turn on the cockpit interior lights at night...Pentium4 2.6gig 800mhz bus (Dell 8300)1gig SDRAMRadeon9700pro 128 Video Card FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
July 2, 200322 yr Ok guys, let me help you out a bit here. There seems to be a memory leak from the VC use that is being addressed. Frame rates in general are AWESOME. We are just out the door, so a *little* time to work out kinks that have been missed will be appreciated. This project has not stopped, but it is on going so all concerns will be delt with as fast as possible![h5]Best Wishes,Randy J. Smith[/h5][h6]The Next Great one?
