November 28, 200322 yr I have a quick question for you. About the wind indication on the display...it says 231/57, now is that blowing in the direction of that heading or coming from that direction? I ask this because a friend of mine says something different than me and I couldn't find anything in the manual.Do you have a headwind or tailwind (almost)?Mikkel
November 28, 200322 yr My question: you're basically landing with a Tailwind. Why? Did you do that deliberately to prove to us that the NG can handle an autoland with a tailwind?
November 28, 200322 yr >I have a quick question for you. About the wind indication on>the display...it says 231/57, now is that blowing in the>direction of that heading or coming from that direction? I ask>this because a friend of mine says something different than me>and I couldn't find anything in the manual.>>Do you have a headwind or tailwind (almost)? It's blowing FROM 231, so that is a (nearly) tail wind. Look at the ground speed indication on the ND. It shows 172 knots. This is the 125 knots IAS from the PFD + the 57 knots winds. The aircraft is flying at 125 knots in the air, but the air itself is moving at 57 knots over the ground. That's pretty fast to touch down, isn't it?Actually, it shouldn't be 172 exactly as the wind is not full tail. Only a fraction of the wind is pushing toward 100
November 28, 200322 yr >Am I wrong somewhere?Of course I am.125 + 57 = 182, not 172.The right math is:TAS : 124wind : 57 knots to 77
November 28, 200322 yr I guess the vind indicator on the ND is diplaying true wind direction. You have a faktor that you have forgotten in your calculations: Magnetic variation.Jan Roar R
November 28, 200322 yr Zoom panel = Love.Flaps and gear were needed there, and that was my only asthetic "complaint" about the original. That and all the underlying fixes and enhancements?! Fantastic work. My personal test will be a short hop from PVD to DCA, setting up some random systems failures along the way - see if it makes me divert. :)I've never been more happy to say that I am on vacation all next week! Gonna turn into a flightsim hobbit. -Greg
November 28, 200322 yr First, thanks for the answers, it is as I thought. Second, I don't think you can calculate wind speed that way. I don't know if this is how they do it in the sim, but in real life you can't do a percentage of the wind in any direction, atleast that's not what I was taught during my years in engineering classes and it's not how we calculate it when we figure out indoor climate estimates and such. It's a very complex math problem figuring out the wind strength on any side of, in our case, a building, one which is solved by either CFD calculations or by looking in tables of common values.
November 28, 200322 yr Thanks for the warm welcome,I can see that some requested facts are not welcome, no skin of my nose......Regards

November 28, 200322 yr Great screen shots and thanks for the hard work on SU2 but I would like to mention that it appears that someone has taken a little creative licences and changed the look of the PFD. Take and close look at the airplane symbol graphics in the SU2 screenshots and compare it to a SU1 version. The airplane symbol wings in SU2 has been repositoned toward the center when they should be seperated more as it is in the SU1 version. It doesn't look right. Right now, the SU1 version of the PFD airplane symbol is more accurate. Look at any pictures of a real NG's PFD. Let's change the PFD airplane symbol back to the SU1 grapphics.Floyd John Floyd
November 28, 200322 yr >Yea, it wasn't meant for you...somehow my post got in there>twice? Cheers for that, Sorry for the reply!:-lol
November 28, 200322 yr Well, PMDG should be comended, Ryan set the NG up for a 57kt TAILWIND! Though, could you imagine the disaster that would occur if there was a wind shear on approach!!! 4th of July would come early - nice fireworks! :)124TAS - 57kt tailwind (if lossed in a wind shear) = 67kts (STALL!!!) heheheheheheheIn all actuality, nice job on the presentation. I love the pics! Regards,Chad C. DeMuth-OlsenPilothttp://home.bresnan.net/~atc01/Images/chad...1_signature.jpg
November 28, 200322 yr Author Floyd, Can you maybe post some screenshots of what you are talking about? Thanks[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Smithhttp://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-5/196432/winglets_lg.jpg Randy J Smith
November 29, 200322 yr I couldn't post screenshots here, but I e-mailed PMDG support with screenshot attachments. Thanks,Floyd John Floyd
